Chapter 85 - Downfall II

You know the foreboding you always feel when you know that the world has turned its back on you? That’s what Amanda was feeling right now as she pulled her eyelids open from a restless sleep or dream.

Was it a dream or nightmare? She didn’t know as she could feel her ears ringing from the repeated buzzing of her phone like damn flies.

She groaned, clutching her head like it wanted to split open. Fuck! She had paraded and cried herself to sleep last night.

Praying and hoping the morning after should be good to her, and as she was seeing it, it was like the angels were throwing back her prayer at her in full disgust.

Amanda grunted, standing up from the uncomfortable position she’d slept in, her neck stiff and she released a low moan. Then stretching for her phone without looking at the caller ID, she picked up.

"Amanda Susan Asher!" The name came out with a tinge of anger, shame and Amanda jolted up quickly, swallowing the pain that wanted to escape her lips from the pain that jolted from her stiff neck and pounding head.

Her father was angry for him to call her by her given legal name without Aaron’s surname — she definitely knew she had fucked up. Not just a little fuck, a bigger, enormous fuck.

"What’s the video trending in the media?" her father’s voice came in a wheeze as a shuffle was heard in the background. And a voice telling her father to calm down.

Amanda’s heart throbbed — no, it thrummed in her ribcage as she felt weak, her hands trembling as she quickly hung up. Quickly seeing her phone — hundreds of calls, like more than hundreds of calls that she missed, then messages. Even as she held her phone, her phone was still buzzing as she inhaled deeply, not even clicking on her call log or messages.

She just searched her name online and in lightning speed everything came crashing.

Do you know the feeling when all what you’ve built for years slowly, and you just remain a step to totally achieve it, then it comes crashing back?

A feel of denial — a feel of loss.

AMANDA KNIGHT CHEATED ON HER HUSBAND, VIDEO ESCAPADE.

ACCORDING TO ANONYMOUS CONTENTS DROPPED THIS MORNING

THE KNIGHT STOCK HAS BEEN AFFECTED...

SHE WAS SIGHTED COMING OUT FROM THE HOSPITAL IN NEW CITY.

IT’S RUMORED SHE’S PREGNANT, IS IT MR KNIGHT’S BABY OR...

Amanda couldn’t read more as water started streaming down her eyes, her breathing kept heaving, shaking her head in denial.

Everything was now out, all what she had been keeping, hiding, shielding was now out in the air. Everyone, everybody now knew what she had done in secret.

Her life had shattered.

She clicked on the video link and there were many videos of her riding Marcus, walking on a leash while Marcus walked her in the park, a video of her getting pushed. Some of her face was blurred while some showed her face clearly, yet Marcus’s face was blurred through the videos.

No! No! She clutched her head, that couldn’t be happening. Her humiliation was out. Very disgraceful, shameful, revolting and disgusting.

Amanda’s hand shook, her vision blurred, she couldn’t read anymore. People were cursing her, some were shaming her while others were praising her and some wished they were in her position.

She went to her messages and breathed out seeing messages from her friends in the group chat.

It’s not true right?

Holy shit, it’s true!

Amanda is the one in the video!

No, Amanda can’t do that. She can’t stoop so low like that.

Holy shit, maybe her husband wasn’t giving her enough attention.

She’s done for, her proud shoulders will hunch now.

Stop that, Amanda is our friend.

No way, I ain’t friends with that slut.

Yes, a whore.

She embarrassed us.

I can’t be seen with her.

And Amanda cried out from betrayal — those were the people she believed were her friends, those she thought clicked with her, but they left her alone now. Even if she was her own friend, she would have left herself immediately. Not wanting to associate with herself.

Amanda crouched in the corner, curled in a small position to hide herself, to protect herself from the world. It felt like the world wanted to swallow her. She had been exposed, she wanted to keep herself hidden.

Amanda didn’t know how long she was in that position before she was shaken by someone and she raised her head blinking — the room was now dark. Her muscles were stiff but she was scared. She blinked, taking in who was in front of her and it was her dad.

Her father was here! Her old man. Why did he come here?

"Close the door quickly, the reporters are here." Amanda heard one of her daddy’s men say in a strong accent, but that didn’t bother her now unlike before as she cried looking at her old man.

The light was on and she could see her father properly and she sucked in a breath; her father looked like he had aged 10 years overnight.

"Daddy," she sobbed, she thought she had no one left, that everyone had turned their back on her and discarded her, but here was her father inside her room. Her father wouldn’t throw her away, her father would accept her. Her father loved her.

"How could you shame the family name like this?" her father’s voice was weak, his eyes full of anger.

"Daddy, it was a mistake."

"A mistake?!" her father bellowed, his body shaking. His walking stick stumped on the ground, "Mistakes are supposed to be made once and corrected, not repeatedly, but you..." her father wheezed.

"I’m sorry daddy," she crawled to her daddy, holding his leg as she cried, "I—he blackmailed—" she sniffed, snorted and tears covered her face.

"Blackmail?" her father’s voice turned low, "You should have come to me."

"He threatened me! He said he’d send it to the Internet, kill you and that..."

"Hasn’t he now shared it to the Internet?" her father pinched the bridge of his nose and Amanda cried.

"I didn’t know how it came to this. He told me to keep quiet, pay him promptly and it’d be good," she said erratically, her lips trembling and her father shook his head in disappointment.

"At least, you should’ve said something and I’d—" her father sighed, bent to pull her up, "About the hospital, I hope it is true?"

Amanda’s eyes darted, there was no need to hide anymore. The person that would soon die doesn’t hide from who will bury them. "It’s true, I’m pregnant," she blurted out.

Her father’s hand went to the back of his nape, "Please tell me, it’s for your husband." her father asked hopefully like it should be true, but Amanda bowed her head.

"No," she whispered and the room felt small and silent.

"Fuck!" her father swore, staring at her with pure disgust and Amanda felt her stomach coil in fear.

"You got pregnant for some nameless thug, Amanda!" her father yelled, wheezed as his breathing turned shallow, his hands gripping his chest as he shook his head, slumping down.

"Daddy?" Amanda shook her father’s body, tears streaming down her cheeks, "Dad—team 1?" Amanda called the men staying at the door, protecting against the paparazzi from breaking in.

The men ran into the room, staring at the scene like they couldn’t believe. "Call someone, my daddy." Amanda cried as one snapped out of the trance and called.

The ambulance siren was heard as the paramedics rushed in, wheeling her father’s body on the stretcher as the paparazzi wanted to enter, yet the men did an awesome job holding them off, but that didn’t stop them from flashing their cameras.

As the repeated flash from the cameras hit, Amanda blinked, her eyes stung and she felt exposed, millions of eyes watching her and she wanted to run away. Had it been before, she’d have basked in the glory, the chant, the flash and given her familiar smile, but now, she wanted to hide.

When they wheeled her father to the emergency room, the men were still surrounding her, but that didn’t stop the questions from the reporters.

Is the video released this morning true?

Did you really cheat on your husband?

Were you blackmailed?

Did you enjoy it?

Amanda slumped on the white tiled floor, her ears ringing, her head pounding tremendously, her body shaking as the men circled her as she tried to catch her breath. It was hard, as she opened her mouth, chest heaving. And she was seeing black dots covering her eyes and she blinked to keep her eyes open to know what was wrong with her father, but it was impossible. And her body gave up from exhaustion.

Later, Amanda found herself on the hospital bed, IV strapped on her wrist, a doctor came in not looking at her, "Your body is weak... And I’ll suggest you take care of your body and the baby." the doctor said and she practically forgot half of what the doctor said.

She wetted her lower lip, "What about my father?"

The doctor checked the clipboard, "Your father went into a minor cardiac attack." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Oh?"

"He’ll be okay after extensive care." and Amanda nodded in gratitude then the doctor walked out not looking at her.

Amanda pulled out her phone and saw the trending news:

INVESTORS HAVE PULLED OUT FROM ASHER COMPANY.

THE STOCK CRASHED OVERNIGHT.

HEIRESS AT THE CENTER OF SCANDAL AND DIVORCE.

Aaron had divorced her? Amanda stood up and immediately she fell and the IV was pulled which tore her skin and blood started dripping on the floor.

No? He can’t do that to her? Amanda shook her head, her fingers in her mouth as her teeth chattered.

Then her phone rang, it was from the family lawyer and she picked it up.

"It’s finalized. The annulment papers are signed and your accounts are frozen pending investigation."

Amanda took a faltering step back in denial, her phone slipped down from her hand. Everything was crashing, everything was crumbling, everything was shattering — her marriage, her father’s trust, her name.

Everything was gone in just within 24 hours, her perfect life, her envious life turned 180 degrees. She slumped down, blood still gushing down from her open wound yet she didn’t notice it. Her body was getting numb and her head throbbed, feeling lightweight.

She blinked, feeling her vision hazy through the room and she screamed, crying out in pure anguish and pain.

"This wasn’t supposed to happen."
