Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!-Chapter 230: Chen Xinyue Strikes Back
Xue Lingxue burst out laughing, "What nonsense are you talking about! If there’s really a chance, I would definitely be a hundred percent willing! It’s just a bit of gossip, what’s the big deal! Ah! I dream about freedom, but such things can only be dreams. In reality, I can’t convince my parents; they gave me life and raised me, and I can’t really rebel without regard—that would be too heartless.
Thank you all for over a year; if it weren’t for your constant encouragement, I wouldn’t have been able to hold on until now. I’ve made up my mind, if this marriage is unavoidable, then I’ll accept it.
As long as I get married, I consider the task done. If I really can’t live with him, then I won’t hold back—I’ll learn Taekwondo, I’ll learn martial arts, I refuse to believe I can’t beat him!"
Xue Lingxue clenched her fist fiercely, brimming with fighting spirit.
Chen Xinyue collapsed into laughter, clutching her stomach, unable to straighten up.
Britain without Zhang Jingxuan seemed to have fresher air, Xue Lingxue’s stress was halved, her performance improved, and after passing her thesis, she also smoothly received her diploma.
Certainly, Chen Xinyue had always been clear on her goals, excelling since starting her studies abroad, now graduating and preparing to return to Hua Country, her mentor was reluctant and specially asked her to stay.
Once Chen Xinyue firmly decided to return to Hua Country, the mentor had to give up.
The two coordinated with Chen Ruiyu and Qu Zhiyang about their return dates and immediately packed their luggage, sending part of it home first and keeping important items with them.
Before leaving, Chen Xinyue specifically went to buy some things and took a bus alone to the villa district in the suburbs.
After pressing the doorbell.
A cute little girl opened the door for her, "Mary, I miss you so much! Mom said you won’t come to teach me anymore, why?"
Chen Xinyue lovingly stroked Jane’s head and gave her a gift, "I really can’t teach you anymore, because I’m going back to Hua Country. Is Jane very lonely?"
Jane nodded sadly, "I’m often alone, without friends."
Chen Xinyue glanced towards the opposite villa, "I remember John said there are two kids in that family. Can’t you play with them?"
Jane sighed, "They are David and Lily, about my age, but their mom doesn’t like them visiting other homes because they are mixed-race, not pure British."
Chen Xinyue was stunned for a moment and gently asked, "Does Jane discriminate against them?"
Jane shook her head.
Chen Xinyue’s smile deepened, "Then Jane can take the initiative to play with them. I’ve bought a lot of cakes to share. If you’re too shy, I can accompany you. I’m also from Hua Country; maybe David and Lily’s mom will be kinder to me."
Jane’s eyes lit up, she excitedly clenched her fists, "Mary, I want to try it myself, if I can’t, will you help me? Is that okay?"
Chen Xinyue gladly agreed.
Jane took the bag of things to the opposite side, and Chen Xinyue watched through the window as she spoke with Annie, though Jane didn’t go inside but opened the bag at the door, proving she was genuinely there to share cakes with David and Lily.
Annie initially smiled politely, but her expression changed sharply upon seeing the photos fall out of the bag. She picked them up first, looking seriously at Jane, "Where did you get these photos?"
Jane was a bit scared but answered honestly.
Chen Xinyue noticed Annie looking in her direction, quickly sipping her tea as if nothing was wrong.
Soon Jane led Annie into the house, nervously handing the photos to Chen Xinyue, "Mary, Annie wants to see you. Also, I’m sorry for messing up the photos."
Chen Xinyue feigned surprise and immediately pulled Jane into her arms, "It’s okay; it’s my fault. I had so much stuff coming that I conveniently put it all in one bag. I was too happy to see you and forgot for a moment, but as long as the photos are here, I can organize them again."
Jane sighed in relief, revealing a bright smile.
Chen Xinyue promptly opened a cake for her, "Eat up, I specially picked it for you, all your favorite flavors."
"Thank you, Mary." Jane cradled the cake and went to the living room.
Only then did Chen Xinyue curiously look at Annie, get up, and shake her hand, "Hello, is there something you need?"
Watching Jane eat seriously, Annie awkwardly laughed twice, "I have some questions to ask, could I invite you for a cup of coffee?"
Chen Xinyue looked somewhat reluctant, "Could it be another day? Today I mainly came to say goodbye to Jane; I want to spend time with her."
Annie looked a bit uncomfortable, couldn’t help but ask, "Are all these photos yours?"
Chen Xinyue nodding calmly, chuckled lightly, "These are photos I’ve taken since coming to Britain, some are friends, some are scenery, and some moments recording life. Since I’m going back to Hua Country, I developed all the photos; is there a problem?"
Annie hesitated, taking a deep breath, "I do have some things I’d like to ask about. Maybe tomorrow? Morning at the coffee shop; I want to discuss the photos..."
Chen Xinyue nodded and exchanged contact details with Annie.
After Annie left, she turned to the living room to chat and enjoy snacks with Jane.
She stayed at Jane’s home the entire afternoon until Jane’s parents returned, and John drove her back.
Annie stood by the second-floor window, watching the car fade into the distance.
Early the next day, Chen Xinyue arrived punctually at the appointed coffee shop.
Annie was already there, elegantly dressed like a lady, looking sophisticated and beautiful.
In contrast, Chen Xinyue dressed casually; the two seemed like completely different types.
Annie had a hint of confusion in her eyes, seemingly unable to understand how someone like Chen Xinyue could be friends with Zhang Jingxuan, so she bluntly asked, "Mary, hello, I’m Annie. I’m sorry; I looked into your details. I heard you’re Jane’s tutor and a student; I’d like to know how you know Mr. Zhang?"
Chen Xinyue’s face fell, visibly displeased, "You’re investigating me? Don’t you know that’s an invasion of privacy?"
"I’m sorry, I was overly curious. Please forgive my boldness."
Annie hadn’t expected Chen Xinyue’s outburst and quickly apologized sincerely.
Chen Xinyue pursed her lips, cautiously sizing her up, "Alright, why did you ask me out?"
"Um... Could I take another look at those photos?" Annie pleaded.
Chen Xinyue hesitated for two seconds before handing them over, and Annie explained each one as she looked through them, "This is our school... I came to Britain to study here; this is the library... These are my classmates, a group photo... that’s my best friend."
Annie took out a photo taken in an apartment, showing a man and a woman sitting on a sofa, the man looking lazy, the woman pouting, sitting closely together.
The photo was taken from behind, capturing their profiles; from this angle, it seemed the woman was acting coyly with the man, though it was actually Xue Lingxue and Zhang Jingxuan arguing.
Annie pointed at the man and woman in the photo, her expression slightly angry, "Who is this man and woman?"
