Chapter 256: A sand butterfly!?

While a few meters away Kris was indulging in an unparalleled bloodbath, another battle was about to begin.

Adrian Dantalion stood straight, his hand casually resting on the pommel of his ceremonial sword, his short silver hair shining under the sun of Tenebris. A provocative smile stretched his lips as he stared into the reptilian amber eyes of his opponent. Facing him, Godwin Pendragon looked like a volcano about to erupt.

"So, Godwin... has Seraph Michael granted you the power of one of the weakest legendary families, but also the patience of a child?" Adrian asked in a slow, honeyed voice, his golden eyes gleaming with contempt. "Isabella once told me that your fury was just a mask for your clumsiness... I’m starting to think she was right."

Godwin roared, the ground instantly cracking under his boots as an overwhelming gravitational pressure invaded the space. "Shut up, you Dantalion bastard! I’m going to crush your bones and offer them as a sacrifice to Seraph Michael!"

Godwin could talk all he wanted, but it was as if those words were meaningless in front of Adrian, who continued to smile.

Without waiting another second, the colossus charged forward, his body releasing burning steam as he activated his

<Art: Flame of Judgment>.

Adrian didn’t move an inch until Godwin’s flaming fist was only a few centimeters from his face.

At that precise moment, his smile widened as he murmured something.

<Arcane Magic: Ephemeral Awakening>

The world seemed to freeze. Godwin’s movements, though massive and fast, became exasperatingly slow in the prince’s eyes. Adrian pivoted with aristocratic elegance, letting the punch hit empty air and sending a shockwave that kicked up a cloud of dust behind him.

Adrian was clearly not at his full potential. His breathing was slightly short and his aura lacked its usual suffocating density, probably because of his opponent, it didn’t take a genius to understand that Adrian didn’t feel the slightest bit threatened by Godwin despite his power.

Despite the difference in build, Adrian didn’t seem worried; his mastery of time compensated for his physical shortcomings. He struck Godwin’s flank with the flat of his blade, a quick blow not meant to kill but to humiliate.

"Too slow, Godwin... Your own gravity seems to weigh you down more than it does me," Adrian mocked, smoothing his hair back and completely ignoring his opponent’s growing fury.

"SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!"

Mad with rage, Godwin unleashed his arcane mana. The gravity around him became so intense that the air itself distorted. He slammed the ground, creating a gaping crater.

<First Phase: Celestial Crushing>

Adrian was forced to leap to avoid being pinned to the ground. In mid-air, Godwin was already waiting for him, his fists transformed into miniature suns.

"So you weren’t expecting that?!" A smile appeared at the corner of Godwin’s lips. But unfortunately, carried away by his impulsiveness, he made the mistake of overcharging his attack. He was going for the killing blow and neglecting his guard. Adrian instantly spotted the opening.

He let himself fall faster by manipulating his own temporal flow and slashed the colossus’s shoulder as he passed. Pendragon blood spurted, staining the desert sand, but Godwin didn’t slow down. He spun around, his elbow slamming violently into Adrian’s torso.

"Shit!"

The prince was thrown backward, sliding several meters. He pressed a hand to his chest, feeling a cracked rib, but his smile never left his face. He glanced at the small tear in his silk sleeve and the bloodstain beginning to spread.

"Oh... you actually managed to touch me," Adrian murmured in a flat, almost disinterested tone. "Congratulations, Godwin. You’ve finally reached the level of a beginner squire."

Godwin was panting, sweat and blood running down his massive pecs. What was wrong? They were both A-rank warriors, yet unlike his opponent, his wounds were piling up: deep gashes on his thighs, one shoulder half-paralyzed by a precise cut. But his pride and god complex prevented him from feeling the fatigue. He concentrated most of his remaining mana for a large-scale attack, the flames of his art turning a bloody red.

"I’m going to erase you from existence!" he roared, the veins in his neck bulging like cords.

Adrian simply chuckled, readying his sword for a temporal counterattack. "Look at yourself... You’re nothing but a wounded animal screaming like shit. You’re pathetic. Even if my idiot brother does nothing, you’re going to pay for Isabella’s death, I’m taking matters into my own hands."

Suddenly, a sand butterfly fluttered right in front of Adrian’s eyes.

’What the hell is this shit?’

The trembling of its golden wings seemed to artificially slow time, a sensation foreign to his own magic. Adrian suddenly felt a presence behind him, a cold and devastating aura he hadn’t seen coming.

He wanted to turn around, but it was already too late. As he rolled his eyes to try to see who was standing in his blind spot, he felt something brush his hand. A feeling of emptiness invaded him.

"What?" Adrian muttered, his smile tensing for the first time that day.

He looked down and his heart skipped a beat: his sword had disappeared.

Before he could understand what was happening, the wet sound of flesh being sliced echoed in the arena’s silence.

*Schhhllack*

Adrian raised his head. In front of him, Godwin Pendragon had frozen. His amber eyes were wide open, staring into nothingness with total incomprehension. A thin red line appeared on his throat, then suddenly opened into a geyser of scarlet blood.

"What the..."

Behind him stood Kaiser, Adrian’s sword firmly in hand, the blade still dripping with blood. His cold blue gaze showed no emotion except icy satisfaction. He smoothed his silver hair back with his free hand, a nonchalant gesture that contrasted with the brutality of his act.

"That dog—!"

Godwin collapsed heavily to his knees, his hands uselessly pressed against his gaping throat, trying to hold back the life escaping into the black sand of Tenebris. He couldn’t understand how this extra had managed to break both his defense and the prince’s at the same time.

Kaiser then displayed a blood-chilling smile, the rictus of a predator that had just dominated the food chain.

"What’s wrong, did you see a ghost or something?" Kaiser murmured, tossing Adrian’s sword at the feet of its rightful owner. "Maybe... After all, I must look like the closest thing to the incarnation of death..." Kaiser chuckled.

Adrian remained motionless, breathless, staring at Godwin’s lifeless body and the silver-haired young man who was already walking away, hands in his pockets, perfectly calm despite the carnage he had just unleashed. A multitude of questions crowded Adrian’s mind despite his impassive face.

’How? I couldn’t move??’
