Back to the 1980s: Transmigrated as the Bigshot's Pampered Wife-Chapter 79: Big Brother’s Sister
Gu Jiaojiao had excellent vision, so she also saw the person who had switched to the driver’s seat in the car behind them. He was a dashing young man.
But she truly hadn’t expected it to be Eldest Brother Sheng. In the original owner’s memories, Eldest Brother Sheng had been very, very good to her.
Ever since Sheng Yueyue returned to the Sheng Family, Eldest Brother Sheng had intentionally avoided the original owner and refused to see her.
The original owner had buried her deep attachment to her eldest brother in the depths of her heart, trying not to reminisce.
Whenever she did, she wanted to cry but felt helpless. When she was verbally attacked by her second and third brothers, the original owner had been filled with resentment.
So she had pinned all her hopes on her eldest brother, wishing he would return and see that justice was done.
Unfortunately, the original owner hadn’t seen Eldest Brother Sheng since October of last year.
In the dreams she sent to Gu Jiaojiao, the original owner had even recounted all the good things about her eldest brother, hoping Gu Jiaojiao would help repay his kindness in some small way.
Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t recognized Sheng Shijing at first glance, but she reacted incredibly fast.
"Oh, it’s Eldest Brother Sheng. You know what they say, teach your apprentice everything you know, and you’ll starve to death. Hehe, all the more reason to lose him! Hold on tight, here we go."
Gu Jiaojiao stomped on the gas, and the car shot forward a great distance. Despite the speed, it wasn’t bumpy inside; the ride was still quite smooth.
Qing City had asphalt roads. The car’s stability had something to do with the road, but it had even more to do with the driver’s skill.
"Jiaojiao, couldn’t you have at least waited to say hello to your brother before taking off?" Mr. Gu didn’t want his daughter to seem ungrateful.
"He’ll come after me. He’s the one who taught me how to drive, but I’m a natural. He’ll be eating my dust, haha..."
Su Shuochi knew his wife was lying, but it was a harmless, white lie.
"Jiaojiao is exceptionally talented. Eldest Brother Sheng definitely won’t be able to catch her, but he’ll be very happy about it. Jiaojiao has gotten so skilled."
Hearing his daughter and son-in-law say this, Mr. Gu felt it made some sense. What master wouldn’t want their student to be highly skilled?
"Then be careful. Don’t throw safety out the window just to race your brother."
"Dad, don’t worry. You’re right here watching, and your driving isn’t half bad either, is it?"
"Me? I’m alright, I suppose. I used to drive a classmate’s car when I was abroad, and I drove the work unit’s car after coming back. But it’s been many years since I’ve been behind the wheel."
"In a couple of years, your son-in-law will buy you a car so you can take Mom out for a drive every day."
"Ah, Cheng Zhou, your daughter and son-in-law are wonderful. When the time comes, take me for a spin too, okay?"
Geng Ruixian said, his voice full of envy.
Song Zijie’s full attention was on the jeep behind them. "They haven’t caught up yet!"
"They’ll catch up soon. Jiaojiao still wants to save some face for her brother. She’ll let him catch up."
Su Shuochi knew that Sheng Shijing’s driving skills weren’t necessarily better than his wife’s, but the jeep had better performance than their small car.
They were still dozens of miles from the compound, so it was definitely possible for the jeep to catch up.
Sheng Shijing had spent two minutes switching seats. By the time he started the jeep, the car ahead had left them with nothing but a cloud of exhaust.
"Hahaha... She’s still as mischievous as ever."
"Eldest Brother Sheng, who are you talking about? Don’t tell me you know the woman who’s driving?"
"What woman?! That’s our brother’s little sister! He taught her how to drive himself. No wonder I couldn’t catch her!"
Zhang Weishan chimed in. The sight of a smile on his boss’s face—a face that had been expressionless for a year—was startling.
As a childhood friend, Zhang Weishan naturally knew that Sheng Shijing’s sister had married Su Shuochi.
"Oh, so it’s our little sister! No wonder you couldn’t catch her, Zhang. Crap, and I just bad-mouthed her a second ago!"
"Just you wait for your punishment. But Jiaojiao’s always been kind-hearted. The worst you’ll get is a fine of one bag of milk candies, haha..."
Zhang Weishan laughed boisterously. He was remembering the happy times of their childhood. He’d even said he wanted to marry Jiaojiao one day!
Sheng Shijing also found himself reminiscing about the little moments of his childhood, playing with his adopted sister.
He was six years older than her. When they were little, their parents were always busy, so Jiaojiao was practically raised by him alone.
He’d been both a brother and a father figure to her, pouring all his affection on her.
Later, when his biological sister returned home, he had wanted to dote on both of his sisters equally. Unfortunately, his biological sister wasn’t willing and would burst into tears at the drop of a hat.
Jiaojiao, unable to bear being wronged, would cry silently. All of it became a source of misery for them.
It wasn’t just his mother who was in pain. He, too, had painfully given Jiaojiao the cold shoulder, eventually to the point of not coming home at all.
’It seems that without me realizing it, she’s become strong. She doesn’t need our pity anymore. If only Jiaojiao had come to this realization sooner.’
Sheng Shijing only ever wanted his adopted sister to be happy. Seeing that she was finally no longer moping around, his spirits lifted.
So Sheng Shijing also floored the gas pedal, and the jeep roared down the road.
There was only a two-minute gap between them. The distance was closing.
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t stop, nor did she accelerate any further—the pedal was already to the floor.
She thoughtfully moved to one side of the road, leaving the other half for Eldest Brother Sheng. She hoped he would just speed past without stopping.
But Sheng Shijing was, after all, two minutes behind her. There was no way he could catch her right away.
The siblings raced like this for dozens of miles. For Gu Jiaojiao, it was purely out of a competitive spirit.
But Sheng Shijing’s feelings were different. It was as if he had returned to his childhood, when he would deliberately let Jiaojiao win their races.
Sheng Shijing wanted to let her win this time, too, but the spirit was willing and the flesh was weak. He was already giving it his all.
’We’re almost at the compound and I still haven’t caught up. My childhood friend and my subordinate are going to laugh their heads off.’
"Brother, you’re letting Jiaojiao win on purpose, just like when you were kids. She must be feeling so smug right now."
Sheng Shijing fell silent.
’This time, I really wasn’t letting her win. If we had another ten miles, I could definitely overtake her.’
"Sigh, what can I do? Jiaojiao’s been a crybaby since she was little. If I passed her today, who knows how long she’d cry for!"
It was the first time Sheng Shijing had ever spouted such shameless nonsense. His heart filled with a complex mix of emotions. ’Jiaojiao really doesn’t need us anymore.’
"Brother~ You still go easy on me, just like always. Hehe, here, I’ll give you a few bags of spicy strips and some soy-braised pig trotters."
Just as Sheng Shijing was feeling overwhelmed with melancholy, Gu Jiaojiao pulled over and passed a mesh bag full of snacks to them through her window.
"Jiao... Jiaojiao... Where are you coming from?" Sheng Shijing asked, his body trembling with emotion.
"My dad was helping Song Zijie find a Divine Doctor, and we stopped by the farm to pick up some luggage. The driver had been at it for half the day and was tired, so I took over for a stretch."
"Jiaojiao, Eldest Brother Sheng and I were the ones who taught you how to drive, and yet you mercilessly left me in the dust~"
Zhang Weishan quickly took the snacks Gu Jiaojiao offered while loudly voicing his complaint.
"Zhang Weishan, your skills are no match for my sister-in-law, so what’s all the whining about? Sheng Shijing, you guys should get going. My sister-in-law has class tomorrow."
Song Zijie said smugly. He was a year older than Sheng Shijing and the same age as Su Shuochi.
He, Sheng Shijing, and Zhang Weishan had all grown up together in the compound and were classmates, so he spoke to them much more casually.
Su Shuochi, on the other hand, had clawed his way into the compound from the countryside on his own merit. Zhang Weishan and the other young man didn’t know him well.
But they knew of him; their parents often held Su Shuochi up as a model to pressure them into being more ambitious.
