Lu Weiyi silenced the excitable faces at the door with a hushing gesture, then stepped lightly out of the ward. She spoke to the group of soldiers, "Wait until your Captain Chen wakes up then talk to him, he’s still in the observation period now, you can’t go in."

As Lu Weiyi spoke, she nonchalantly scanned the room and noticed a young female soldier standing in a corner, her phoenix eyes beautiful yet rimmed with red from worry.

Lu Weiyi couldn’t help but take a second look at the female soldier. Wasn’t she different than the one in the photo? But her expression was clearly one that revealed concern for a lover.

The words immediately popped into Lu Weiyi’s mind, chilling her gaze and causing her resentment toward Chen Gang to simmer. Given he already had a stunning wife and child, why bother to dabble in affairs?

Through the analysis from her limited experience in love, she thought, if a man does not give an opportunity, how could the third party be able to enter the scene?

The moment the female soldier noticed Lu Weiyi’s gaze, she hurried forward, voice trembling with suppressed sobs, "Thank you, thank you for saving Captain Chen’s life."

Lu Weiyi took a step back, pouted, biting out three words, "No need." She really didn’t want to deal with this woman, but as the woman was being so courteous, she couldn’t just pretend not to hear.

Seeing they could not visit Chen Gang for now and needing to hurry back to the base, a few soldiers bid farewell to Lu Weiyi, and then to the female soldier, "Officer Sun, we’re going back first. Are you heading back as well?"

Sun Meng hesitated for a moment, then replied, "You go back first. I’ll wait here until Captain Chen wakes up."

Lu Weiyi, originally heading back to the guesthouse, decided to stay as well. She would prevent an opportune moment for Sun Meng to get closer to Chen Gang when he was weak after waking up. It was already hard for Chen Gang’s wife who lived far away with their child.

Upon seeing Lu Weiyi walk away and then stop and return, Sun Meng kindly suggested, "Doctor, why don’t you go rest first? I can wait here. If anything happens, I can call the nurse."

Lu Weiyi gave an indifferent shrug, "I’m fine, I don’t have anything to do anyways, so I’ll just stay here."

With that, Sun Meng fell silent, taking a seat on a bench in the corridor to stare blankly at Chen Gang’s ward door.

To Lu Weiyi, this was the classic look of a lovelorn ’third wheel’. So, Lu Weiyi sat down at the other end of the bench, studying Sun Meng’s expression and more convinced of her initial assumption.

Feeling the intensity of Lu Weiyi’s gaze, Sun Meng turned her head to ask, "Is there something you need?"

"Nothing. I’ve just arrived in the Tibetan area and don’t have anyone to talk to. Oh, where are you from?" Lu Weiyi asked cheerfully.

With a faint smile, Sun Meng replied, "I’m from the Northeast, I’m Chen Gang’s junior in college."

"Oh, then do you know about Chen Gang’s family situation?" Upon hearing this, Lu Weiyi thought to herself, she’s his junior in college, she must know he has a family. How could she still chase him all the way here?

Sun Meng nodded, "I know a little. But he doesn’t like to talk about his home life with others."

Lu Weiyi pouted, her impression of Chen Gang falling once more. It was not proper for a happily married man to withhold information about his family. Was this not a subtle form of flirting? Auntie Er was always praising him, but where was his merit?

Sun Meng wasn’t interested in chatting anymore and returned her gaze to the ward door, lost in her own thoughts. She was smitten with Chen Gang, she had also persistently followed him to the Tibetan area. No matter how hard it was, as long as she could catch a mere glimpse of Chen Gang from afar, she would be satisfied.

Sun Meng didn’t dare to confess her feelings to Chen Gang, fearing that they wouldn’t even remain friends in the end. In her mind, there was someone who occupied his heart already. Several times, Sun Meng caught Chen Gang absent-mindedly gazing at the sea of Galsang flowers. She believed the rumors and so, she silently stayed by his side, hoping that one day, when Chen Gang turned around, he would notice her.

When Chen Gang awakened, he saw the two faces that had simultaneously appeared in front of him and was momentarily stunned. He apologized to Lu Weiyi, "I’m sorry."

Lu Weiyi waved it away with a smile, "It’s all right, I’m not in a rush."

Tears welled up in Sun Meng’s eyes again, her voice choked up with emotion, "Captain Chen, are you feeling alright? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Do you need some water?"

Lu Weiyi actually had a moment where she admired Sun Meng. Her feelings were genuinely deep and she expected nothing in return. However, this thought lasted only a moment and was quickly put aside by Lu Weiyi’s morality. Being an army wife was not easy, as she saw Auntie Er struggling to raise Xiaopang and Mo Wang while enduring the half-year long missions of their father.

Chen Gang gently shook his head at Sun Meng, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry."

Noticing Lu Weiyi’s thoughtful expression, Chen Gang asked, "How come you’re here?"

Lu Weiyi put her tangled thoughts aside and replied with a smile, "Because I was the one who performed your surgery," she said with a hint of pride.

Chen Gang looked surprised, "This scatterbrained girl who almost lost herself performed my surgery. You didn’t leave anything like a gauze or hemostat inside my stomach, did you?"

Lu Weiyi, her cheeks reddening in irritation, retorted, "Comrade of the People’s Liberation Army, please do not doubt my professional competence!"

Chen Gang broke into a light laugh that pulled at his chest wound causing him to wince in pain.

Sun Meng was surprised to see the exchange between the two. Chen Gang was actually joking around, and even laughed at Lu Weiyi’s retort. It was unbelievable. In their eyes, Chen Gang had always been a gentle person, but he was definitely not the sort to joke openly.

Watching Lu Weiyi’s playfully frowning face, Sun Meng felt a warning bell tolling in her heart. Moreover, Lu Weiyi was quite attractive. Her big, lively eyes coupled with her long, upwardly curved lashes that fluttered like a feather stroking one’s heart every time she blinked.

"Captain Chen, would you like anything to eat? I can go home and make you some porridge?" suggested Sun Meng, her heart filled with sadness.

Chen Gang shook his head, "No need for that, the hospital canteen has porridge. I can ask them to prepare a meal later."

Out of the blue, Lu Weiyi chipped in, "The porridge made at home is much tastier. The porridge I had at the guesthouse tasted as if it weren’t cooked properly."

Smiling faintly, Sun Meng nodded, "The air pressure here is too high. It won’t cook properly if not boiled well. Captain Chen, why don’t you let me do it? I’ll go make some porridge for you." Without waiting for Chen Gang’s refusal, she quickly turned around and hurried away.

Watching Sun Meng’s retreating figure, Lu Weiyi could not help but comment, "She’s so considerate and pretty, don’t you think?"
