Nan Fei brought Jiang Yang to granny’s house, only to find Huo Linong sitting at the dining table, eating noodles from a course porcelain bowl. The hands which usually held a chalk box or pen holding such a bowl seemed entirely out of character.

His entire presence in the main hall felt out of place.

Yet, it seemed he was entirely oblivious towards it, simultaneously praising whilst slurping the noodles, “Auntie, the homemade noodles you made are incredibly delicious, I’ve never had any like these.”

Guan Rufang graciously accepted his compliment, “If it’s tasty, then eat more, you should visit us more often.”

“I will, I certainly will.”

Zhou Yongxian sat in a wheelchair, delicately savoring her noodles from a small bowl. Her elegant movements carried a certain charm. This mother-son duo elevated the demeanor of the entire Jiang household with their mere presence.

“Hmph! You think with your flattering words, I’d forgive you? You wish.”

“Mom, you should believe in my sincerity.”

Huo Linong helpless interjected, “See, I came here bright and early, I firmly believe in you, and support you, standing in your corner.”

Zhou Yongxian didn’t believe him!

“Are you trying to avoid certain vexing people or running from some annoying circumstances?”

Instead of feeling embarrassed about his secret being exposed, Huo Linong simply accepted it.

“It seems there’s nothing that can escape your sharp eyes.”

“Hmph! You think I don’t know your nature? People always talk about how wonderful you are, it all just seems like a sham to me.” She was exceedingly dissatisfied with her son this time.

It seemed that she would need to complain for at least half a year to vent her frustration.

“By the way! Did you talk to the kid about my leg injury?”

“No!” Huo Linong responded in a whisper, “I wouldn’t dare tell him about that! If that jackass found out, we’d have to wave our peaceful days goodbye!”

“Hmph! At least you’re clever.”

Having scolded her son, Zhou Yongxian turned to a newly arrived Nan Fei. With a change of expression, she greeted her warmly.

“Come in Nan Fei, have you had your meal yet?”

“I’ve already eaten! How do you do, Principal Huo.” Nan Fei smiled, pulling up a long bench for her and Jiang Yang to sit and commented, “Why are you all eating so late? It’s almost time for lunch.”

“It’s because your granny’s homemade noodles are delicious but take a while to make, hence the delay!” Zhou Yongxian smiled whilst looking over Nan Fei, “I heard you guys have a telephone installed at your place? Did you call Bei Jiang?”

Nan Fei was expecting Granny Huo to bring it up, her cheeks tinting with a light blush making her look even more fair and lovely.

The more Zhou Yongxian watched, the more she liked her.

Nan Fei honestly answered, “I called once before, but he was busy and couldn’t take the call.”

“I’m sure he’d call you the moment he gets the chance.” Zhou Yongxian added, seizing an opportunity to glare at her son once more, maintaining her solid displeasure towards him.

Having finished his meal and putting down his bowl, Huo Linong awkwardly rubbed his nose. He was on the verge of losing face, particularly in front of his future daughter-in-law.

“Aren’t you going to wash the dishes?”

Huo Linong froze for a moment. He had never washed dishes growing up, his hands had only ever held a pen or books. He looked blank after hearing his mother’s demand.

He felt a pang of sadness.

He had escaped the trouble at home only to face issues created by his mother.

“Principal Huo doesn’t need to, I’ll go.” Guan Rufang promptly got up and pile the dishes together, heading toward the well.

Without missing a beat, Huo Linong hurriedly followed, “Auntie! Let me help, this’ll serve as a good learning experience. So that next time my mom’s upset, I’ll have an extra skill to help cheer her up.”
