Chapter 586: Chapter 336: Full Sliding Sinker and Riding the Motorcycle

The less than ten minutes of preparation time quickly passed by. As the referee in charge of the field control fired the gun, the first competition of the afternoon officially began.

Zhang Yang held a 4.5-meter fishing rod in his hands. At the sound of the gunfire, he lifted his arm and gave a slight flick of his wrist, throwing the two pre-baited hooks into the spot directly ahead.

Starting without nibble, he blindly cast five rounds of double-hook wet scatter bait to create a spot, then Zhang Yang started preliminary trial fishing with double hooks baited with peanut-sized small bait.

In previous matches, the early stages were mostly about high-frequency rod casting to manage the spot. So why did Zhang Yang become conservative this time?

It’s very simple. The reason for this response is directly related to his unfavorable view of the fish situation at this number six fishing spot.

Think about it, if the fish density around the spot is high, then the more bait thrown and spots created to gather fish, the better. But if there aren’t even a few fish around the fishing point, what’s the point of casting a large volume at a high frequency?

There’s not much point!

The reason Zhang Yang slowed down the pace for tentative fishing in such a short time was to collect information about the fish situation around the spot.

Only through continuous probing with rod casting can more intelligence be gathered to develop a relatively targeted fishing strategy.

Here’s a side note: landing on a bad fishing spot isn’t that frightening. In probability terms, all anglers are on a level playing field. Even a Special-level Competitive Fishing Master experiences blank catches at times. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

What is the fundamental difference between a fishing expert and a novice angler? It’s their understanding of fishing!

Adaptability is the biggest charm of competitive fishing. Understanding the situation you are faced with and then making targeted adjustments based on it to ultimately achieve the best outcome under the current fish conditions is what a top angler should do.

As for bait, fishing additives, and other external factors, they mostly embellish the situation. Very few of them can bridge the gap in fishing skill understanding by turning the tide with an overwhelming force.

After consecutively casting about seven or eight rods around the spot at an eighth depth, Zhang Yang’s brows involuntarily furrowed!

Poor!

Very poor!

The fish conditions are very poor!

From start to finish, Zhang Yang only saw one small movement, possibly a line bump, which paused slightly, with no action following! Re-casting the rod at this spot was like throwing into a fish tank, completely still.

Out of the corner of his eye, Zhang Yang saw his fellow anglers to the left and right; none of them were catching fish. However, on the opposite bank at a diagonal, one of the anglers had initiated catching fish. Within the range of sight, there were as many as five or six rods with fish on them at times.

This situation was mostly aligned with Zhang Yang’s prediction before he started fishing. The overall fish situation of the fishing ground was okay, but near the entrance, the number six fishing spot had poor localized fish conditions.

Following this, Zhang Yang continuously tested fishing at offset spots and close-in frog jumping, but the results were not good.

Seeing this, Zhang Yang sank his heart, pushed the bobber about thirty centimeters up, and then pushed the lead seat of the rig to a position directly below the bobber seat.

Full flying lead!

This fishing method was mentioned earlier, though some might have forgotten. Let’s do a quick refresher.

The full flying lead method involves pushing the lead seat up to below the bobber seat for normal casting.

With the lead seat pushed up, the center of gravity of the entire rig is significantly raised, shown by the bobber instantly flipping upon water entry, followed by the main line and double hooks below the lead seat creating a very slow sinking oscillating descent.

What is the benefit of this fishing method?

There are two benefits. The first is that the bobber flips quickly, and the rig’s ability to detect different water layer signals increases significantly post-flip. During the slow descent of the double-hook bait from shallow to deep, fish in different water layers might take the bait and signal.

In summary, the full flying lead method significantly enhances the ability to search fish layers across all water layers compared to ordinary rigs.

The second advantage is that using the full flying lead method reaches farther compared to the normal suspended lead method where the lead is above the swivel.

At this point, some might be puzzled, thinking, "It’s the same bobber, the same weighted lead, the same bait, so why can the big flying lead reach farther? Something seems off here."

No need to doubt it, it indeed reaches farther!

With the lead pushed below the bobber seat, the process of the lead with the water line speeding up its descent is shortened to the extreme. Subsequently, the fish line and double-hook bait below the lead create a wide oscillate pattern!

The oscillating time is longer, and the oscillation is more ample, so the double hook’s landing point is more forward than when the lead is normally at the bottom.

Based on Zhang Yang’s current fishing depth of about two meters, after such an adjustment, he’d reach thirty to forty centimeters more forward than when casting a normal full rod.

As the saying goes, "an inch longer is an inch stronger." In such an extremely adverse fishing environment, Zhang Yang didn’t want to miss any chance to improve catch probability.

After a series of trial fishing, Zhang Yang ultimately locked his response strategy to the fish situation on reaching farther. The big flying lead method is basically the farthest reaching method permissible under the rules.

The fish were scared by the entering anglers to swim away to distant locations. The farther you reach, the greater the chance of catching fish. Based on trial fishing in the first few minutes and his predictions, Zhang Yang completely figured out the problem he was facing.

After transitioning to the big flying lead method, the results became very evident.
