Chapter 37: Cosmology and Power System Explanation

The cosmology of Banished to the Abyss After Defying the Author is built on a single foundational principle: all existence is layered, and each higher layer views everything below it as fiction. This is not metaphor. It is the operative law of reality. A being from a higher layer does not merely overpower beings below — their presence alone is ontologically incompatible with the lower layer’s existence.

The cosmological structure is organized as a Book — ten stacked layers of existence and non-existence, each containing its own infinite, ever-expanding space-time continuum. Alongside this Book exist three parallel Outer Realms. Above the entire structure sit the Three Higher Voids. And beyond even those — outside the entire framework of existence and non-existence — is Dragonforce, the Will of the Author.

At the apex of the in-universe hierarchy sits Noah, the King of Kings — the being who sees the entire Book as a manuscript he is writing, whose authority reaches every King across every layer simultaneously, and whose passive resistance generates enough force to destroy the entire structure as collateral shock.

"These 10 layers are stacked in the form of a Book, one above the other. Inside the Book, each page has its own dimensions and its own space-time that is stretching in every direction."

THE TEN LAYERS OF EXISTENCE

Each of the ten layers is a discrete cosmological unit — a world containing its own infinite, ever-expanding space-time continuum. No two layers share the same spatial or temporal framework. Each layer was created by its respective Kings and is governed on a daily basis by a Goddess appointed by those Kings.

The layers are ordered from highest (Layer 1) to lowest (Layer 10). Movement between layers is not freely permitted — Kings and Goddesses must obtain permission to enter upper worlds. Normal beings attempting to exist in a higher layer are passively unmade by the ontological incompatibility.

1) ELONORE WORLD

Elonore (Goddess)

Created personally by Noah and gifted to Elonore to manage. The highest layer in the Book. Noah’s primary emotional anchor — his self-restraint at full power is specifically to protect this world from being destroyed as collateral shock.

2) MELITIA WORLD

Filina (Goddess)

Second-highest layer. Created by Kings. Upper world structure — requires permission to access from below.

3) NOMATRE WORLD

Morigiania (Goddess)

Third layer. Operates under the standard King-and-Goddess governance model.

4) VALTORA WORLD

Alowane (Goddess)

Fourth layer. Mid-upper tier of the Book’s hierarchy.

5) CLARIOS WORLD

Tiuie (Goddess)

Fifth layer. Central tier of the cosmological stack.

6) BIANCEA WORLD

Velentri (Goddess)

Sixth layer. Lower-mid tier of the Book.

7) ASTROAE WORLD

Seluene (Goddess)

Seventh layer. Approaching the lower layers where Noah’s story primarily takes place.

8) TITAINE WORLD

Xenovia (Goddess)

Eighth layer. Primary story setting for the Kurugshetra arc. Ruled by Xenovia. Incinerated by three ultra-giant suns and later restored by Noah.

9) SOFIAL WORLD

Altantriasa (Goddess)

Ninth layer. A normal human from Sofail placed in the Abyssal World caused its complete unmaking through passive presence alone — demonstrating the layer gap law concretely.

10) ABYSSAL WORLD

Zelforna(Goddess)

Lowest layer. The primary setting of Noah’s banishment and the opening Chapters of the story. Vulnerable to beings from higher layers simply existing nearby.

The Layer Gap Law — Demonstrated Proof

The most precise scaling statement in the entire novel is the Sofail-to-Abyssal incident. When Mortatis threw a normal human from Sofail World (Layer 9) into the Abyssal World (Layer 10), the result was not damage or injury to the Abyssal World — it was complete unmaking. The world was not destroyed by energy or force. It was unwritten from existence because it could not hold the presence of a being one layer above it.

This normal human had no special powers, no authority, no magic above what their layer contained. Their mere existence in the wrong layer was enough. This cascades upward through all ten layers — meaning a King from Layer 1 existing in Layer 10 would unmake not just that layer but potentially cascade through multiple layers simultaneously.

THE LAYER GAP SCALING RULE:

Each ascending layer is not merely more powerful than the one below — it is categorically superior in the same way an author is categorically above their characters. No amount of power within a lower layer closes this gap, because the lower layer is literally fictional from the higher layer’s perspective.

The Important Exception: Kings and Goddesses

Kings and Goddesses are immune to passive reality-fiction scaling inside the Book of Worlds. A King or Goddess from a lower layer is not automatically unmade by a higher layer being’s presence. This immunity exists because it would otherwise create fundamental imbalance in the cosmological structure — Kings need to interact across layers to govern the Book.

However, this immunity does not mean Kings and Goddesses are equal to higher-tier beings. They are immune to passive presence effects only. They are still subject to the direct power, abilities, and authority of higher beings. Furthermore, they still require permission to enter upper worlds — the immunity protects them from passive harm, not from the permission requirement.

THE PARALLEL OUTER REALMS

Running alongside the Book of Worlds — not above it, not below it, but parallel to it — are three distinct Outer Realm structures. These are independent cosmological spaces with their own rules, governance, and populations. They share the same ontological tier as the Book but operate under completely different laws.

The Real Sky

The Real Sky is an Outer Realm that exists parallel to the entire Book of Worlds. It is more accurately described as adjacent to it, a structure of equal cosmological standing that operates under different principles.

Key properties of the Real Sky include: beings sealed here exist outside the jurisdiction of death — no decay, no reincarnation, no natural conclusion to their existence. Noah uses the Real Sky as a sealing space, demonstrated when he erased Vanessa’s destiny and threw her into the Real Sky with the Sable Edge. The three ultra-giant suns that incinerated Titaine World were also fired from the Real Sky — indicating it can serve as a platform from which to attack lower structures.

"Destiny erased. Thrown into the Real Sky. No reincarnation. No decay. No death."

— Noah

The Realm of the Dead

The second parallel Outer Realm. Unlike the Hell and Heaven cycle which processes ordinary mortal souls, the Realm of the Dead exists specifically to contain higher consciousness — gods, kings, and concepts — permanently. When a King or God dies, they do not enter the reincarnation cycle. They come here.

The Realm is ruled by Death — a singular ancient entity who has occupied her throne for several trillion cycles (complete cosmic iterations, not mere years). Her presence bends nothing around her — she is so fundamental to the structure that reality doesn’t react to her as a disturbance. She simply is part of the baseline.

The atmosphere of the Realm is described as "finished" — not dark, not frightening, not sad. A place where outcomes have already been decided and nothing anticipates. Grim Reapers serve as confirmatory instruments — they confirm whether arriving beings truly belong to the category of concluded things.

Retrieval from the Realm of the Dead requires a consciousness exchange — one newly created consciousness must be sacrificed to Death in return for the retrieved being. This is not a power contest. It is a structural requirement enforced by Death’s governance. The exchange was demonstrated when Noah created a being from the Essence of Happiness and sacrificed it to retrieve Altantriasa.

Hell Worlds

Hell Worlds are a connected collection of all three hells and connected to all 10 layers — a unified underworld network that links the underworld structures of every world simultaneously. Hell Worlds were previously inside the Book of Worlds but were freed from the Book by Noah in the pre-story era, alongside Heaven and the other Outer Realms. They now operate outside narrative control, meaning Dragonforce cannot edit or interfere with them directly.

THE THREE HIGHER VOIDS

Above the Book of Worlds and the Outer Realms — but below the position of Dragonforce — exist three fundamental voids created by Dragonforce as resistance tools against Noah. These are not locations in the conventional sense. They are ontological substrates — the raw material from which the entire cosmological structure emerges and into which it dissolves.

Noah at full power can resist all three Higher Voids simultaneously. However, the shock generated by this resistance is sufficient to destroy the entire Book of Worlds and all parallel Outer Realms as collateral damage. This is not his active destructive output — it is the structural consequence of his passive resistance alone.

VOID OF BLACK

Definition: The void where all Concepts and their Reasons form and dissolve.

Function: Every concept that exists across all 10 layers — Authority, time, death, happiness, rejection, space and others— originates here and will eventually return here. The Void of Black is the birthplace and graveyard of all concepts in the cosmology.

Significance: Kings with Authority govern reality through concepts. But those concepts come FROM and return TO the Void of Black. A being operating at this void’s level is upstream of every Authority in the cosmology. Noah demonstrated power over this void — he cracked it and erased one of the three.

VOID OF WHITE

Definition: The void where all Characters and their Reasons form and dissolve.

Function: Every character — every being who has existence within any layer of the Book — originates in the Void of White. When they cease to exist, they return here.

Chaos Connection: Chaos — the being who is the reason physical existence has form — is an EXTENSION of the Void of White for the material world. Chaos is not independent. He is a projection of this void into the physical layers. This explains why Chaos deferred to Noah: Noah operates above the level of the White Void from which Chaos extends.

VOID OF GRAY

Definition: The void where both Concepts and Characters exist in Pure Mutable form.

Function: The most dangerous void. Anyone who interacts with it can edit it as they wish. It is the raw creative substrate — existence in its most malleable state, neither fixed concept nor fixed character. Both states exist here but in forms that can be freely modified.

Significance: This is Dragonforce’s primary workspace — the place from which he edits characters and rewrites narratives. The Void of Gray is pure editability made into a location.

DRAGONFORCE — THE WILL OF THE AUTHOR

Dragonforce occupies a position in this cosmology that has no equivalent elsewhere: he is not existence and not non-existence. He was never a character — never born into the Book, never assigned a layer, never given an origin within the structure. He is the Will of the Author and the Author itself simultaneously. The will to create the story and the agency enacting that will are unified in him.

"Dragonforce is the being that is not existence and non-existence because it was never a character — it is the Will of Author and itself the author too."

This classification places Dragonforce entirely outside the scaling hierarchy. He does not have a position within the tier system because he is the reason the tier system exists. His relationship to Noah is not one of power comparison — it is one of narrative authorship versus in-story authority. Dragonforce cannot fight Noah directly within the story’s framework. Instead, he must edit the story Noah exists in from outside it.

His methodology is not combat. It is narrative editing. He stripped Noah’s crown not by defeating him but by removing the recognition and meaning from it — editing the story so that Noah’s authority is not acknowledged by the world. He writes events that create disadvantages for Noah. He rewrites framing so Noah appears as the villain. He places characters in Noah’s path whose deaths serve his narrative purpose.

THE POWER SYSTEM

The power system operates on a strict hierarchy of four tiers, each categorically superior to the one below — not multiplicatively stronger, but ontologically different in kind. This hierarchy was explicitly defined by Noah during his confrontation with Lengronia.

"Law or essence can control one aspect of reality, while Authority allows the user to govern the whole reality under a specific command."

— Noah

The Four-Tier Hierarchy

4

MAGIC

Controls surface-level phenomena. The foundational power available to mortals and lesser beings. Affects the world without governing its laws.

Most mortal kingdoms; the golden-eyed Phantasmal Beasts; basic sorcerers

3

LAW / ESSENCE

Controls ONE aspect of reality completely. A user of Law governs their specific domain absolutely within that domain’s scope.

Zelforna’s Time Essence (IS time itself); Lengronia’s Draconin; Chaos as extension of Void of White

2

AUTHORITY

Governs the WHOLE reality under a specific command. Not one aspect — the entire reality obeys. Kings operate at this tier.

Nostradus (Rejection); Xenovia (Space); Alextruo (Proportion); Mortatis (Salvation); Venxiyie (Perception)

1

BEYOND AUTHORITY

Exists outside the ownership structure where Authority operates. Cannot be governed by any Authority. Reality’s governance system does not apply.

Noah — confirmed by his own internal statement: ’I am beyond Authority’

The Crucial Distinction: Authority vs. Beyond Authority

"Authority isn’t absolute. It governs reality, but it doesn’t OWN it."

This single line from Noah defines the upper limit of the power system. Authority governs reality — meaning an Authority user can command every aspect of reality within their domain. But they do not own reality. Reality exists independently of Authority. Someone who exists outside the relationship between Authority and reality — who is not part of the governed structure at all — cannot be affected by Authority’s commands.

Noah confirmed in his internal monologue that he does not have Authority. He is beyond it. He agreed with Lengronia’s suggestion that he has Authority only because the truth was incomprehensible to her. His actual position is upstream of the entire Authority framework — upstream of the concepts that Authorities use, upstream of the realities those concepts govern.

NOAH — KING OF KINGS

Noah is the apex being of the in-universe hierarchy — the King of Kings whose authority reaches every King across every layer simultaneously, who sees the entire Book of Worlds as a manuscript he is writing, and whose passive resistance generates enough structural shock to destroy the entire cosmology as collateral damage.

He was stripped of his crown’s recognition by Dragonforce and banished into the Abyssal World as a mortal character. The story follows his journey through the 10 layers to reclaim Victoria’s soul fragments and ultimately restore his full authority. Even sealed at a fraction of his power, he demonstrates capabilities that exceed the combined output of most fictional cosmologies.

THE KINGS AND THEIR AUTHORITIES

Kings are beings who can create, destroy, and sustain entire worlds alone. This is not merely a title — it is an operational definition. A King’s authority is sufficient to govern an entire infinite ever-expanding space-time continuum single-handedly. They create the gods and goddesses who manage the worlds after creation, because the King title comes with their respective Authorities that make such creation possible.

Each King governs a specific domain through their Authority. Within that domain, their command governs the whole reality — not just an aspect. Nostradus’s Rejection applies to everything in reality. Xenovia’s Space Authority commands all space within her domain. This completeness is what distinguishes Authority from Law/Essence.
