Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog-Chapter 451: A Good Luck Kiss?
"I’ll see you later," Kai said, waving at Lina as she went to the entrance of the hotel.
However, she stopped just as she was about to reach the door, turning to Kai with bright eyes.
The two of them decided to have dinner since Suzy interrupted their time together during the early afternoon. Lina had also acted strange at the beginning of their ’friendly date,’ but she became more comfortable afterward when it seemed like Kai didn’t have any interest in Kimmy Wang.
"Are you sure you’re not going to head up yet?" she asked.
Kai shook his head and pointed to the ball in between his arm and lateral torso. "I won’t be able to sleep without practicing."
"We have a game in the morning tomorrow," she said, tilting her head to the side.
"I know," Kai smiled. "I won’t take long. I just need to do this."
Lina pursed her lips. "You know that you’re good enough, right?"
Kai’s smile widened. Hearing those words from Lina was especially meaningful.
However, he didn’t want to settle for that—good enough.
Instead, he wanted to be the best. He knew it was a far-fetched dream, but if he kept going at it, he believed he would be able to do it.
"Thanks, Lina," he said. "Don’t worry. I won’t overdo it. Maybe good luck from you would be nice, though," he cheekily added.
Lina sighed and shook her head. She then fiddled with her fingers, appearing like she was hesitating to do something.
"Anyway," he continued. "You better head up now. You need a lot of rest for tomorrow."
"Whatever," Lina said before walking to where Kai was, making the latter confused.
Just then, Kai felt something on his cheek—a warm, soft peck.
His eyes widened as he looked at Lina, who had just placed a kiss on his cheek.
Then, he slowly lifted his hand to the part she kissed, appearing like he couldn’t believe it.
Meanwhile, Lina’s cheeks heated up to a ridiculous crimson color. She looked pretty under the moonlight, and Kai had to stop himself from asking for another kiss right at that moment.
"What was—"
Before Kai could finish his statement, Lina cut him off.
"You wanted my good luck," she muttered. "I gave some to you, so you better make use of it well."
Kai pursed his lips to prevent himself from smiling too wide.

With that, Lina went on her way, not bothering to turn around since she was too shy.
Meanwhile, Kai stood there for a while, still holding onto his cheek.
After a while, he shook his head, the smile not leaving his face.
He grabbed the ball with two hands and dribbled it hard.
"Alright," he muttered. "I have more energy now."
He started walking to look for a public basketball court. It wasn’t that hard to find in Beijing since a lot of courts littered around the area.
Kai was still smiling as he settled on one that was adjacent to a hospital. It was already dark, so there weren’t any other players around.
"Perfect," Kai muttered and got to work. He had trained less ever since the Nationals began, so his body craved for it. He knew that the consecutive games were tiring, but he always had the energy to train.
With that, he got to his usual training regimen. He decided to try something new.
Kai had been practicing this particular skill after watching Andy excel in their game with the Fate Weavers; and despite being at the Legend level, he still felt like he lacked it in a lot of ways.
He even asked Andy what the key to it was.
However, the lanky guy just answered ’muscle memory.’ He has been playing in arcades since he was in elementary school, and he would always challenge himself by taking a step back every time he became really good in one distance. In the end, he was able to master the art of three-point shots.
So, Kai ran with what Andy had said and decided to practice his long-distance shots over and over again until he got used to it.
He threw the ball and sighed in frustration when it didn’t make it in.
"Andy took years," he muttered, trying to comfort himself.
He also didn’t want to use his copycat skill for this particular one. He believed he should acquire it with hard work and hard work only.
Kai didn’t know how long he had been playing, but even as his hands felt numb, he felt he could still keep going.
However, one person made him stop what he was doing.
Kai tilted his head to the side as someone familiar walked out of the hospital doors.
"Yuze?" he muttered. "I thought he went to meet up with his friends in the city."
At least, that was what the captain told them when he went on his own just right before dinner.
Kai frowned and couldn’t take his curiosity. He used his speed to run after their team captain, not stopping until he covered the distance between them.
Some teens, who had just finished with their summer tutoring, frowned when they felt a breeze pass by them.
"Did someone just pass us?" one of them asked.
Kai finally reached where Yuze was. He stopped a few feet away from him and matched his pace, frowning when he saw how slow Yuze had walked.
He wasn’t limping, but there was definitely something wrong.
He was holding onto what seemed to be printed files, making Kai even more curious.

Before Kai could stop himself, he ran to where Yuze was, patting his back in a not-so-soft manner.
The taller guy was surprised, causing him to let go of the files in his hands and go into attack mode. However, when he saw it was just Kai, he sighed in relief.
"What the heck, man?" Yuze exclaimed. "Why would you come up to me so suddenly?" he asked, feeling annoyed.
However, Kai didn’t heed his annoyance. Instead, he focused his gaze on the files that had scattered on the ground.
Then, a profound frown made its way to his face.
"A torn tendon?"
