Chapter 42: Chapter 41: From Work to Training

With two people working at the same time in the Pet Beast Store, a job that would have taken one or two hours was finished in just half an hour.

Just then, Sister Ruan walked over and said,

"Once you’re done with the daily work around noon, you two can practice Skills and techniques in the store. We don’t need you to handle customers for now.

"Oh, right. The training ground inside is just a standard one, not a High-Level facility, but it’s enough for the Little Cyan Snake."

"I couldn’t possibly..."

Gu Ming was here to work. How could he just switch to training while on the clock?

Sister Ruan waved her hand and said, "I can’t stand the sight of the Wang Family. Your Cyan Treasure has a fighting chance; its potential isn’t low.

"My standards aren’t high. Just crush that younger brother of theirs, Wang Zidong, and his Pet Beast during the monthly exam."

After Ruan Jing finished speaking, she looked at Teacher Zhang. Teacher Zhang didn’t stand on ceremony and said directly, "Thank you!"

Wasting one or two hours in the middle of the day would have been a significant loss of time for Gu Ming.

Thankfully, the store manager, Ruan Jing, was understanding and let the two of them use the training ground for free.

Gu Ming wasn’t one to be indecisive. Since Sister Ruan had made the kind offer and Teacher Zhang had already accepted on his behalf, he naturally wouldn’t be polite any longer.

"Thanks, Sister Ruan! I’ll definitely invite you to my college entrance exam celebration banquet!"

"Hah, we’ll see when the time comes. It’s not even certain if I’ll go." Sister Ruan smiled. She didn’t really think Gu Ming could get into any prestigious university.

’With the Little Cyan Snake’s potential, getting into a top-tier university would be difficult. At best, a spot in a second-tier one is guaranteed.’

’Unless it can achieve Evolution to a Two-star Pet before the college entrance exams and learn Master Level Biting and Body Technique Skills, its fate is sealed at a second-tier university at best.’

The competition for the college entrance exams had grown even more intense than in previous years.

More and more people were taking out loans to raise Pet Beasts, so the level of competition was also getting higher.

In the past, a diligently raised Little Cyan Snake would have certainly had a fighting chance. But now the overall environment had changed, making it much more difficult.

...

Gu Ming and Teacher Zhang entered the training facility inside the store. The venue didn’t need to be cleaned every day because it wasn’t used every day.

Moreover, the grounds inside had a slow, automatic repair function. No matter how cracked it became from fighting during the day, by the next morning, the ground would be as good as new.

This was the entire point of a training ground; it was incomparable to ordinary ground outside.

The more High-Level the facility, the greater the variety and size of the training grounds it possessed.

The training facility at school, for example, was a Three-star Level ground. It could withstand the destruction of several hundred full-power battles from a Three-star Pet Beast.

One-star and Two-star Pet Beasts could go all out, but Three-star Pet Beasts usually went to Four-star grounds to fight.

Professional facilities outside of school started at Four-star grounds; the better ones had Five-star Level grounds.

The most High-Level facility was the Zhenbai Dao Field in the city, which boasted a Six-star Level ground capable of withstanding a thousand full-power battles from a Six-star Level Pet Beast.

But back to the matter at hand. The ground in the Pet Beast Store was a simple Two-star ground, only able to withstand a hundred full-power attacks from a Two-star Pet Beast.

In other words, it was meant for training One-star Pet Beasts, or even Zero-star Pet Beasts.

Upon entering, Gu Ming saw that the ground was covered in sand. Array Patterns were carved into the base, absorbing Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi to repair the field.

Gu Ming looked around and noticed a stone pillar in each of the four corners of the field. Mysterious Array Runes were carved onto the pillars, corresponding with the Array Patterns within the sand.

’No wonder this place doesn’t need to be cleaned,’ Gu Ming thought. ’It’s just a common sand pit. It’s all sand, so it must be very easy to repair.’

Cyan Treasure had never been here before. It slithered onto the ground, moving its body across the sand and observing its surroundings.

Accustomed to dealing with Spiritual Qi, it immediately noticed a slightly protruding, inconspicuous stone above the field. It was emitting a faint glow, as if it were the heart of this sandy expanse.

Cyan Treasure secretly activated its Entry Level Breathing Technique and opened its mouth to draw in the cyan Spiritual Qi.

Gradually, the air began to flow into Cyan Treasure’s mouth, accumulating into a bright, shimmering band of light—a Spiritual Energy Belt.

The source of the Spiritual Energy Belt was the stone overhead. It was responsible for pumping out Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi, providing the Spiritual Qi Environment needed for Pet Beasts to activate their Attribute Skills during training.

The better the facility, the more Spiritual Energy Pumps it had, and the output was on a completely different Quantity Level.

This was why Cultivation in a Dao Field was far superior to Cultivation at home.

However, entering a Dao Field cost money. Some places required a membership fee. Tickets cost several hundred, and monthly memberships started at one hundred thousand. It was all a way for rich people to burn money.

Gu Ming had never considered going to a Dao Field, but this was his first time trying to practice Cultivation in a Pet Beast Store.

"This training ground hasn’t been used in a long time."

Teacher Zhang looked around, noticing that things were covered in dust. It had been a while since anyone had used it.

"After all, this is just an ordinary neighborhood shop. People who can afford High-star Pet Beasts wouldn’t come to a small store.

"And those willing to buy Pet Beasts from a small store don’t have much spare cash. Burning money here every day isn’t cost-effective."

Gu Ming thought about his own situation. If it were him, he probably wouldn’t be willing to pay to practice Cultivation here either.

The ticket price for this training ground was one hundred yuan a day, which came out to three thousand a month.

Was it expensive? Not really.

But considering the Spiritual Qi level, it was only slightly more abundant than at home.

If you wanted to train Skills, there were deserted open-air areas everywhere outside, and they were all free. The only downside was that the ground couldn’t repair itself.

Taking these two points into account, the ticket price for this shop was purely for the Spiritual Qi Environment. In the eyes of the poor, it wasn’t worth it; they could just make do outside.

"First, let’s work on sit-ups. Once we’re done with that, I’ll teach you the Body Technique," Teacher Zhang said.

Cyan Treasure was very eager to improve right now. It nodded and lay down on the uneven sand to do sit-ups.

Teacher Zhang came over and had Gu Ming act as an anchor for its legs. He instructed Cyan Treasure to wrap its tail around Gu Ming’s legs, then lie flat and straighten its body.

Teacher Zhang reached out and pressed on its acupoints, locking Cyan Treasure’s core muscles so it couldn’t bend its body.

"Head up."

Cyan Treasure strained with all its might to lift its head, the scales on its face contorting. It was clear that with its midsection acupoints sealed, it was incredibly difficult to raise its head.

One second, two seconds, three seconds.

Cyan Treasure’s head lifted up, reaching almost a ninety-degree angle. Its entire body tensed into a straight line, and it trembled visibly.

"Hold it. At least seven seconds. One... two... three..." Teacher Zhang deliberately counted slowly.

By the third second, Cyan Treasure couldn’t hold on any longer and wanted to lower its head to rest.

But it looked at Teacher Zhang’s resolute expression, then at its master’s encouraging gaze.

Then it remembered the arrogant faces of the Wang Zicheng brothers.

’Channeling grief and anger into motivation!’

’Hold on!’

Cyan Treasure gritted its teeth and continued to endure.

"Five seconds... six seconds... seven seconds!" Teacher Zhang deliberately drew out the sound after "six."

The longer the complete exercise, the better. This was a key method for increasing muscle Power.

When Cyan Treasure heard "seven seconds," its nerves relaxed. It finally lowered its body and lay trembling on the ground. It was exhausted, but it had done it.

HISSS.

It flicked its tongue slowly, asking the two of them if it had succeeded.

"Good job." Gu Ming smiled, bending down to pat Cyan Treasure’s head. He also took out a small treat, intending to feed it.

At this, Cyan Treasure’s expression tightened slightly. It still had an indigestible fruit pit in its mouth—the one used for practicing the Snake Swallowing Elephant Technique.

HISSS.

*I can’t swallow.*

"Right, I forgot." Gu Ming could only put the treat away.

As he spoke, Gu Ming glanced at the system message log.

[Cyan Treasure has completed a life-or-death exercise. Despite its frail and aged body, it has miraculously survived.]

[Cyan Treasure’s abdominal Power +1]

[Overall Endurance +1]
