Beast Taming: My System is Bugged-Chapter 53 - 52: Breathing Technique on the Windowsill, Spiritual Qi Returns to the Mountain
6:30 AM.
Gu Ming left the training room with the exhausted Cyan Treasure, heading for the teachers’ office.
Since Cyan Treasure’s Breathing Technique had reached Entry Level, Teacher Zhang decided to use a Scroll to imprint the technique, turning it into a Visualization Image.
Creating a Visualization Image wasn’t something you could do just because you wanted to.
In addition to a special Scroll, it required the help of a Pet Beast with painting Skills to create it.
The high school teachers had a wide variety of Pet Beasts, and as it happened, a few of them had pets that met the requirements.
Teacher Zhang entered the office and found Teacher Xu, who had just arrived.
"Teacher Xu, I’d like to ask for your help in creating a Visualization Image."
Teacher Zhang said as he walked up to the female teacher. She looked surprised. "The Cultivation Technique has already reached Entry Level?" 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
She glanced at Gu Ming, who was behind Teacher Zhang, and then at Cyan Treasure on his shoulder.
Just looking at Cyan Treasure’s demeanor, it was vibrant and full of spirit. Its snake-like body was held ramrod straight, and the Mana fluctuations it emitted were quite rich.
Upon closer observation, one could tell that Cyan Treasure’s breathing frequency was different from that of an ordinary Little Cyan Snake. It had a wondrous rhythm; this wasn’t subconscious respiration, but active breathing for cultivation.
"Where should we do it?"
Teacher Xu stood up, walked over, and gently stroked Cyan Treasure’s head.
Cyan Treasure flicked its tongue, enjoying the warmth from her hand, and gave its head a little shake.
’Let’s just get this over with. I’m not picky about the location.’
Teacher Xu looked at Gu Ming and said, "While a Breathing Technique like this isn’t picky about location, it’s always better to find a place with the right ambiance."
Creating a Visualization Image involved four major steps.
Observing the Pet, Observing the Scenery, Gaining Insight, and Imbuing the Painting.
This had little to do with Cyan Treasure; it was primarily the job of the Painted Pet.
Cyan Treasure just needed to breathe perfectly; the Painted Pet would then naturally capture the essence of the Dao Principles it perceived and infuse it into the image.
The Painted Pet’s perceptiveness would determine the upper limit of the Visualization Image’s quality.
As for the lower limit, that depended on how powerful Cyan Treasure’s Cultivation Technique was.
A powerful Cultivation Technique could manifest celestial phenomena, making the Great Dao Insights distinct and easy for the Pet Beast to perceive.
Gu Ming didn’t have any strong opinions, but since his teacher had spoken, he wasn’t in a position to object.
"How about by the window? The morning mist over the back mountain is perfect for the painting."
Gu Ming gently tapped the windowpane. In the distance, the silhouettes of the mountains were bathed in the pale cyan light of dawn. The treetops glistened with lingering dewdrops of Spiritual Qi from the night before, each one refracting a faint white shimmer.
The school’s verdant, lush back mountain was a perfect backdrop for the Breathing Technique.
Teacher Xu nodded. Since Gu Ming wasn’t particular about the scenery, they would use the school’s back mountain as the background.
A moment later, Cyan Treasure perched on the windowsill and began to circulate its Master Level Green Treasure Breathing Technique.
Teacher Xu summoned a giant brush with a black handle and white bristles. This was her Painted Pet, a Two-star Level being that possessed Skills like Observing the Scenery and Imbuing the Painting.
Seeing this, Teacher Zhang handed over a Scroll.
The moment the Painted Pet’s tip touched the Scroll, ripples of light washed over the handle, and fine, inky bristles naturally emerged from the tip.
The Painted Pet looked up at Cyan Treasure. Just then, the morning light pierced through the thin mist, making the entire back mountain look like an unfurling painted scroll.
At that moment, the morning breeze passed through the forest, carrying the damp scent of soil as it drifted past the windowsill.
Cyan Treasure closed its eyes. With the lower half of its body coiled tightly and its head slightly raised, it opened its mouth and took a deep breath, capturing a vast amount of Spiritual Qi from the wind.
In the blink of an eye, Cyan Treasure filtered the mountain wind, which transformed into jade-green tassels of light.
Spiritual Qi is formless by nature, but when enough of it gathered, it took on a green hue.
Cyan Treasure’s breaths were long and deep, its muscles rippling with each one.
The streams of Spiritual Qi clung to its scales like a spiderweb. As its body trembled rhythmically, this free-flowing energy was ground down into a visible green mist. The gentle vibrations then scattered this mist back into the air, only for it to be recaptured by Cyan Treasure’s wide mouth.
It circulated the Spiritual Qi throughout its body, using its muscles to refine the qi into Mana.
In turn, the newly generated Mana flowed back to nourish its muscles, dissolving lactic acid and slightly enhancing its physical constitution.
Frosty droplets of spiritual mist began to condense on the windowpanes on either side of the sill—this was the Water Attribute Spiritual Qi that Cyan Treasure had filtered out. They coalesced into droplets and slowly trickled down the glass.
Cyan Treasure’s breathing grew increasingly smooth. It opened its eyes, gazed at the verdant mountains, and felt that its Breathing Technique had never been so wonderful.
Gu Ming discreetly sensed Cyan Treasure’s physical state. He could feel that its body was once again saturated with Mana, unable to hold any more.
’But can it really not hold any more?’
’Thinking of the future concept of Mana Evolution, there’s no doubt that Cyan Treasure’s body can still be packed with more Mana. It’s just that ordinary methods won’t work.’
Through the Pet Beast Contract, he sent a mental command, instructing Cyan Treasure to try using the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Qi as a hammer and its Dantian as an anvil to compress its Mana.
Cyan Treasure nodded, having heard its master’s thoughts.
It drew even more Spiritual Qi into its body and adjusted the frequency of its Breathing Technique. It controlled the Spiritual Qi, forming a crude, large hammer above its Dantian, and began hammering down on the Mana within.
One strike. Two. Three.
The vast Mana was slowly compressed to half its volume before it suddenly hit a critical point, rebounding and expanding violently.
During this compression and rebound, even more non-Grass Attribute Spiritual Qi was expelled.
Cyan Treasure opened its mouth and spat. A Spirit Wind of mixed colors shot out like a cannonball toward the back mountain.
As the Spirit Wind flew, it easily pulled in the surrounding Spiritual Qi, and the combined force struck the back mountain, startling a few blue-crested sparrows that were pecking at wild fruit.
’The Mana compression failed.’
As Cyan Treasure spat out the uncontrollable burst of Spiritual Qi, it knew its compression method was too crude.
But in the eyes of the two teachers, Zhang Yunpeng and Xu Xiangbao, it was an incredibly ethereal breathing process.
"So this is a Breathing Technique recorded by the Hall of the Great Dao! Teacher Zhang, I had no idea you were hiding such talent." Teacher Xu was completely stunned, marveling at Teacher Zhang’s good fortune.
’How could I have known this Breathing Technique had such power?’ Teacher Zhang thought. ’It absorbs so much Spiritual Qi that it can’t all be used, and the excess is just spat back out as a Wind Ball.’
’If it learned a Wind Element Skill, it could compress the excess Spiritual Qi into high-frequency Wind Blades. Spitting those out would be a decent long-range attack.’
’And since the plan is for Cyan Treasure to focus on Poison Attacks, it could even lace the Wind Blades with its venom before forming them, giving a standard Wind Blade a poison effect.’
’Hey, now that I think about it, a Little Cyan Snake like that would be pretty formidable. At least, I’ve never seen one in the high school competitions.’
’Recalling the last few years of entrance exams, most of the students’ Little Cyan Snakes had such poor Talent they couldn’t even reach the One-star Level. They struggled to condense Spiritual Qi into a Wind Blade, let alone lacing it with poison.’
’Besides, the Little Cyan Snake is a Grass Attribute Pet Beast. Learning Wind Element Skills is the equivalent of cross-Attribute learning, which is incredibly difficult. It’s impossible without monstrous Talent.’
’The only reason Cyan Treasure could spit out a high-density Wind Ball of Spiritual Qi was because its Breathing Technique’s absorption speed was just too fast. It essentially found a shortcut to complete the condensation process.’
While Teacher Zhang was lost in thought about future training plans, Teacher Xu’s gaze fell upon the Scroll. Her expression faltered, captivated by the image of the Cyan Snake’s breathing that had been captured on it.
The Cyan Snake on the Scroll was depicted drawing the boundless Spiritual Qi of the heavens back to the mountain, its form calm and its temperament serene. The feeling projected by this Breathing Technique was far beyond mere Entry Level.
