Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 153: The Council meeting
The Bear tribe heard the howl. The priest’s heart leapt. He remembered the day their warrior came back to the tribe. He had brought a group of beastmen and females with him. In the group, he claimed the one named Grik was the priest they were looking for.
Hearing the story of how the warrior found Grik in the very place he was estimated to be. The priest was delighted at first. Grik was welcomed with fanfare. But it did not take long for them to notice something was amiss.
According to his vision, this priest should have extraordinary knowledge. There should be a special aura around them that is attuned to the land. But Grik had none of that. The only thing he knew how to do was dry meat and make a fire.
For a month, the Bear tribe priest studied Grik. Soon, he noticed the cracks. The Boar shifter only knew how to throw his weight around. He did nothing but claim to be a great priest and try to claim every female he had taken a fancy to.
If not for the priest and the tribe leader stopping him, he might have tried to take every female as his property. It was only when the pregnant female he brought with him spoke up that they had proof he was lying.
For a place in the Bear tribe, she willingly gave any information they wanted. Her pregnancy was not wanted. Grik actually took her by force. After he was banished, he forcefully took her from the tribe as well. Her survival depended on him, so she could not resist. Being in the Bear tribe was a blessing for her, and all she asked for was a home.
The Bear tribe priest and leader accepted her condition. Thus, the correct information was spread. According to her, the real priest was actually a priestess. One of the other people, the same ones the Bear warrior kicked out, was the priestess. There was friction between the two groups. As for where she went, the pregnant female had no clue.
The Bear tribe leader was so angry, he punished the Bear warrior, then killed Grik. Grik’s vision of wealth and prosperity was short-lived. He died with his eyes open.
Many months later, the Bear tribe experiences the howl. The Bear tribe priest fell to his knees when he saw the phenomenon. The myriad of colours lit the sky, stretching throughout the continent, and tears filled his eyes.
The Mammoth, Condors, and Panthers also saw the signs.
In the following days, the three ruling powers contacted their subordinates. The Bear tribe was among them. It was this group of people who had divined that help was coming to the Beast Continent. Yet they had been unable to find the person. Now the phenomenon told them that this person had arrived.
Inside a grand chamber, a group of beastmen and females sat together.
A broad-shouldered man named Varek, a mammoth beastman, spoke. "We have all seen the sign. We have known about this for a while. Our Beast Continent is dying. It needs healing."
"This person, whoever they are, is the answer to that problem."
The room was filled with murmurs. Some were nodding in agreement, others were exchanging nervous glances.
Terra, a condor priestess, stepped in, "We have a direction but no clear trail. This phenomenon is the closest we have come to knowing who the person is. And it is only because of his help that we were able to gain guidance to heal the continent."
"What we need to do is figure out how to find that person. Even if they are the answer to the problem, we have no way of finding them."
A female spoke up. Her panther ears were twitching on top of her head, and her tail was lying in her lap. Her name is Kira.
"Perhaps," she said cautiously, "we should open the inter-tribe festival to other tribes?"
Sounds of outrage flew in the chamber. The inter-tribe festival had never been a place where every tribe could set foot. This was a sacred festival that represented the knowledge of their ancestor. Only those tribes that are of ancient blood and a few other common blood tribes were able to attend. This was how they kept their line pure and kept their power as their own.
"Kira," called Varek, "Why would you make such a suggestion? You know very well the meaning of the festival."
Her sharp eyes met Varek. She was not afraid of him. Just as he was the leader of the Mammoth tribe, she was the leader of the Panthers. Her power was no less than his.
"I am very aware of what the festival is. But I see no other choice. How do you suggest we find the person? Are we to send out scouts to search the entire Eastern side of the continent?"
Her words were sharp, but the room knew what she said made sense. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The noises of outrage dulled but did not die down.
Terra’s eyes flitted to the Bear tribe leader; she could see something was bothering him. She had no intention of paying attention to it at first. But the spike in his breathing and heart rate when they mentioned the Eastern part of the continent made her pause.
"Is there something you would like to tell us?" Terra asked. Her gaze fixed on the Bear tribe leader.
The constant chatter died down as all heads focused on the Bear tribe leader.
"We..." his voice cracked. He felt a crushing weight on his shoulders. He knew it was bloodline suppression. One of the reasons the three ruling classes is still dominant. They could suppress them all.
He continued, "It is not certain, but...we believe the saviour is a female."
"Oh?" Terra’s eyebrow raised slowly, her eyes narrowed. "Why do you think that?"
"A female in our tribe has likely met her." His words were soft. There was no conviction in the statement.
The tension in the room grew heavy; he knew that if he did not speak soon, he would end up creating more problems for himself and his tribe.
Thus, the story of his tribe’s failure was known to all.
