Becoming A Tech Tycoon Begins With Regression-Chapter 221: The Collector Knows
"How interesting."
In what seemed like a five star hotel, in the higher ends of Atlanta, at the top most floor, a man sat casually on a couch looking at the files before him.
There was a small, amused, smile on his face.
The collector really was glad that he chose OmniTech as his person of interest, after all, how would he normally make such mistakes?
No, rather than a mistake, it was just that he had been willfully guided to believe that.
Yet, it seemed OmniTech had also made a mistake, one that cost him a lot more than the mistake the collector made.
On the document before him was the picture of a familiar face, one he thought was his pawn....until after his investigation.
Turns out, Ethan Carter was not a mole, rather, in actuality, he was OmniTech himself.
How had he found this out?
Well, turns out all he needed to do was dig into the past rather than the present.
The fact that Lillian Hayes became the COO of a newly formed company just after meeting him would’ve been proof enough, but even if it was a coincidence, the collector had noted it down.
And he was right to.
Turns out, the genius known as Ethan Carter had grown tired of playing part time teacher and decided to start a company.
Even with what he had before him, the collector was only sixty percent sure that Ethan was OmniTech, but that was enough of a percentage for him to conclude.
And now that he had thought logically about it, it seemed OmniTech had planned on using his identity as Ethan to find out his.
That was why when a proper investigation was done OmniTech Corp, by the collector, there were files here and there point that Ethan was a mole.
They had been smartly planted and he had taken the bait, believing it for a while, until Ethan let his emotions get in the way of his decision making.
That blue lantern move was what pulled the collector’s curiosity and got him to properly investigate who he was.
"Now what should I do with this?" He muttered, "the game is getting boring now that I know his identity."
He put the file down and placed a hand on his chin, "should I just end this and throw him to the wolves?"
"No, that’ll be too simple," he muttered again, "or maybe I should let the world know who he really is?"
He then stood up and turned to the other side to of the living room where two people sat.
"What do you think?"
Madam Xu and Jian Long sat on the other end, looking at the man before them. Ever since he basically kidnapped them, thereby ensuring their safety, he had promised to use them as pawns.
But he hadn’t commanded them to do anything just yet, except for following him wherever he traveled to.
The man’s eyes flicked between them, sharp and calculating. "You’ve both been without use so far," he said slowly, "but now I want your honest opinion. How should I play this?"
Madam Xu hesitated for a while before saying, "you could let him think he still has the advantage, feed him the illusion of security, then strike when he least expects it. Chaos favors the prepared."
The collector nodded, before turning to Jian and asking, "what do you think?"
Jian thought about it for a while, though he hated being in the control of someone else, he had to admit that the collector had a tight leash on them.
And if he tried cutting loose, his head would follow.
"I think you should attack now," He muttered, "since he was smart enough to misdirect you, then it’d only be a matter of time before he also figures out your identity."
"I see," the Collector muttered, seemingly interested in their ideas, "and how do you suggest we attack?"
"Target the people close to Ethan Carter," Jian suggested, "someone he cares about."
"Indeed," the collector said with a smile before picking the folder up from the table and handing it to Jian.
"Since you two might be itching for your revenge against him," he paused, a smile on his face, "do whatever you will with this information."
With that, he turned around and left the two to their thoughts with only one thought in his head, "don’t disappoint me OmniTech...no, Ethan Carter."
He wanted to see how Ethan would get himself out of this, maybe he’d even prove that the game hadn’t gotten boring yet.
Because if it had, the collector wouldn’t mind disposing of him.
This second chance was only because of the entertainment he had provided so far, else, he’d have already lost interest.
Back in the living room of the hotel room, Madam Xu looked at Jian, who had a dangerous glint in his eyes as he looked at the file in hand.
"What do you plan to do with that information?" She asked a bit hesitant.
Jian might’ve been her puppy once, but the collector had laid bare the plans he had against her... During their ’trust’ building exercise.
So she was a bit wary of him.
And that feeling was mutual, after all, her plan was to use and discard him after he had fulfilled his purpose.
"This?" He pointed at the file, "I’ll make Ethan Carter wish he had never crossed us."
"And how do you intend to do that?" she murmured, "...Lillian Hayes"
Jian nodded. "Not her. That would be too obvious."
He turned another page.
"Nor Irina Romanova. She’s already surrounded by vipers and somehow still standing."
Madam Xu’s expression hardened for a fraction of a second before it returned to normal again.
"Then who?" she asked.
Jian closed the folder and leaned back, mirroring her posture now, as if they were equals once more.
"Someone he won’t expect to be attacked," he said, "someone close enough to matter, far enough that he won’t see it coming."
He raised his phone to his face with a smile as a picture appeared on it.
"And I’ve got just the person."
