Chapter 35: Asking Permission For Sawyer

"Of course, you can, Miss Abigail. But may I know his name? So I can share this information with the other guards. That way, your friend can visit you anytime..." Brody replied calmly.

"My friend’s name is Sawyer Jones," Abigail said shyly as she mentioned Sawyer’s name.

Somehow, thinking about him warmed her heart again. However, Abigail didn’t understand how the rule was needed in the first place; why did she need permission from her landlord so Sawyer could visit her?

Brody awkwardly smiled as he heard Abigail mention his boss’s name.

Now, it became clear to Brody why his boss had recently stopped asking him to accompany him and what Ethan had told him about Abigail Snow: she was the woman their boss liked, and Ethan had arranged for her to live on the rooftop.

Brody felt happy that his boss finally had a woman he was interested in; after so many years, he seemed to have closed his heart to any woman. Since they moved here two years ago, no female guests had crossed the gate, and no female staff member had worked in the house.

"Okay, Miss Abigail. I’ll write it on the notes board and make sure Mr. Sawyer Jones can visit you anytime," Brody replied with a friendly smile.

"Thank you so much, Brody. You’re so kind," Abigail responded shyly, quickly excusing herself. She needed to get to the café. She had spent too much time here.

After seeing Abigail leave, Brody quickly entered the main house and headed to the third floor to report good news to his boss. This news would indeed be something his boss was eager to hear, right?

Hearing Sawyer’s voice inviting him to enter, Brody immediately opened the door. He saw Sawyer reading something on his iPad and Ethan sitting across from him, typing on his laptop.

Ethan asked, "What’s wrong, Brody? Why do you look so happy, like you just won the lottery?" as Brody approached them. However, Brody ignores Ethan and focuses on Sawyer.

Brody cleared his throat to catch Sawyer’s attention, but Sawyer didn’t lift his head from his iPad. Impatiently, he said, "Sir, there’s good news. I believe you’ll be happy to hear it."

"Go on, I’m listening..." Sawyer said, without stopping to read his email on his iPad.

"It’s about Miss Abigail. She finally received the envelope you gave her," Brody informed him.

"Good! Anything else?" Sawyer asked, still focused on his iPad.

"Yes, Sir. There’s something else. Something you might like to hear." Brody said enthusiastically. "Miss Abigail is asking for permission for her male friend to visit her house."

Sawyer suddenly stopped reading and slowly raised his head to look at Brody, his curiosity clearly showing in his eyes, "Who?"

"Wow! Really? Who? Who is the lucky man that’s Miss Abigail’s first guest?" Ethan asked. He was curious to know.

Still, Brody ignored Ethan. His eyes remained on Sawyer as he said, "You, sir..."

Sawyer’s heart raced upon hearing Brody’s words. "M-Me?" he asked, afraid he had heard it wrong.

"Yes, sir..."

Sawyer immediately put his iPad on his lap. "Repeat what she said to you," he demanded.

Brody stifled a laugh when he saw his boss’s expression and the light in his eyes shining. He recounted everything:

"Miss Abigail said she wanted to ask for permission for her male friend. When I asked her friend’s name, she answered me immediately: Sawyer Jones. So, I assumed it must be you, right, Sir?"

Sawyer didn’t answer him; instead, he asked, "And what was your answer?"

Brody hurriedly told him what he said to Abigail. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

A thin smile slowly appeared at the corner of Sawyer’s lips. He felt delighted to know that he could visit her anytime he wanted.

"Alright, thank you for your hard work, Brody. You can return to your post. I will call you if I need anything." Sawyer ordered.

"Yes, sir," Brody said before leaving the room.

...

Sawyer didn’t return to reading his email but looked at Ethan, confused. "Why are you smiling like a fool?" he asked.

"Sir, congratulations! You are finally getting permission to visit your own house..." Ethan grinned when he saw Sawyer shake his head while ignoring him. He then started reading the email on his iPad.

"I mean, your access card to visit Miss Abigail’s house. I’m happy for you, Sir." Ethan continued to tease his boss.

Sawyer cleared his throat to avoid talking about his feelings for Abigail because he was still unsure. He needed to convince himself that this was pure love or only his kind heart pity toward her misery.

Ethan no longer tried to tease him because his boss didn’t want to talk about Abigail. He continued his work on his laptop. But, not long after, Sawyer spoke:

"What about her grandma? Is she still in the hospital?"

"Good news, Sir. She will be discharged in two days and return to the nursing home..." Ethan continued to explain Abigail’s grandma’s health condition to him.

After Ethan finished his report, Sawyer remembered Abigail struggling to pay the hospital bill. He still recalled asking Ethan to settle it for her after they returned from Orange Town.

"You already settled her grandma’s hospital bill, right?" Sawyer asked.

"Yes, Sir. I paid everything as per your order. Miss Abigail didn’t need to pay anything."

Sawyer was satisfied to hear that. At least she didn’t have to struggle to find money to pay the bills. And now, she was also living in his house without spending much.

’Looks like I need to claim my coffee rewards tonight,’ Sawyer thought, feeling foolish as he considered pretending to be a guest in his own house.

"Alright, you can go now, Ethan." Sawyer stood, ready to return to his bedroom for a nap. However, he stopped when Ethan halted him.

"Sir, I want to remind you that tonight you have dinner with your family. Please don’t forget, or Old Master Jones will scold me," Ethan said before leaving the room.

Upon hearing Ethan’s reminder about the family dinner, Sawyer’s expression instantly darkened. He hadn’t planned to visit them, but his grandfather would send people to drag him back if he didn’t show up.

Sighing deeply, Sawyer walked to his bedroom. He needed to sleep to clear his mind.
