Chapter 159: The young lady is with child

Meanwhile, back with Anaya, Rhys, and Kisha...

It had been two weeks. Two long, quiet weeks during which the healer visited regularly to check on Anaya’s condition.

That morning, the golden rays of sunlight streamed softly through the cracks in the wooden roof, warming Anaya’s face and gently waking her from sleep. Though she was blind, her eyes still opened as they always did...empty and unseeing.

But this time...

The moment her eyelids fluttered open...

Light, bightness poured into her vision, blinding at first, forcing her to shut her eyes again with a startled gasp.

No... no... wait...

Slowly, she opened them again, squinting against the sunlight.

She could see.

Her heart jumped in her chest. Confused and elated, she opened her mouth....

"I... I can speak!" Anaya gasped, the words escaping on their own. "I can really speak!"

She froze, her hand trembling as she brought it to her throat. Her voice. She had her voice again.

The soft chirping of birds reached her ears as well as the wind howling. She could hear that again.

Overcome with emotion, she leapt to her feet and dashed toward the door, eager to share the miracle with Rhys and Kisha as they weren’t in the room with her, but the moment she burst outside, they weren’t in the kitchen are or the compound either but just then she spotted them in the distance, amidst some werewolves who were also going about their daily activities.

They weren’t alone. The middle-aged healer walked alongside them, while Rhys and Kisha each carried bags filled with market goods.

Anaya realized quickly....they must have stepped out only recently, thinking she was still asleep.

"Rhys! Kisha!" Anaya shouted joyfully, her voice light and full of disbelief as she ran barefoot toward them.

The two paused mid-step, trying to get where their names were being called not when they never shared their names with anyone since they’ve gotten to the vicinity. Instead they’re bearing different names.

Rhys and Kisha turned sharply at the sound, their faces filled with disbelief as it fell on Anaya. Without wasting much time, they also ran up to her till they closed the distance between them.

"You... you..." Rhys stammered.

Anaya nodded, tears brimming in her eyes as she slowed her pace. "Yes! I can see you both now! I can hear and speak too!"

Kisha’s eyes immediately welled with tears. Rhys looked frozen in place, his jaw slack.

Then, without thinking, Anaya threw herself into Rhys’s arms, clinging to him tightly. He caught her, holding her close as if afraid she’d disappear.

"I missed you, Rhys," she whispered between sobs. "I wanted to see your face, to hear your voice. I missed you so much."

Rhys’s arms tightened around her, his own tears slipping down his cheeks. "I’m glad you can see me now, Princess. And hearing you say my name... it’s like a dream come true."

Something deep inside him stirred painfully, almost unbearably. The way she called his name... it felt too familiar, too intimate. Like someone he had once loved in another life was calling out to him again. And just like that, his heart began racing, louder than ever.

Eventually, they parted slightly, though their hands remained locked.

Kisha stepped forward and immediately embraced Anaya too.

"What color am I wearing?" she asked with a teary laugh, wiping her cheeks quickly.

"You’re wearing a blue skirt and blouse," Anaya responded without hesitation, her voice still thick with emotion.

Kisha broke into soft sobs again. "You’re really back, Your Highness. I feel like I’m dreaming. And if I am, I never want to wake up."

"You’re not dreaming, Kisha," Anaya whispered, clinging to her friend.

Rhys turned toward the healer. "Please... please keep checking up on her, even now."

"Of course," the healer replied kindly.

Just then, Rhys bent down and swept Anaya off her feet, carrying her in a bridal style toward the house. Kisha and the healer followed closely behind, each still wiping away their emotions.

Once inside the room, the healer immediately got to work, carefully checking Anaya’s pulse, listening to her breathing, and examining her eyes.

The room remained silent for several minutes.

Then, finally, the healer straightened up and turned to face them all, a wide, satisfied smile stretching across his face.

"It’s just as I suspected from the beginning," he said, bowing slightly. "But the condition has now stabilized."

Rhys furrowed his brow. "What do you mean? Is something wrong, Healer?"

Kisha leaned forward nervously, gripping Anaya’s hand. "Is she really okay now? Are her senses... completely back? Will she continue to see, hear, and speak like before?"

The healer gave a reassuring nod. "Yes. Her senses have returned entirely. She’s well now... and even better....there’s more."

The smile on his face widened.

"Her Ladyship is with child."

The room fell utterly silent.

Shock rolled like a thunderclap through Rhys, Anaya, and Kisha.

"What... what are you saying, Healer?" Kisha finally asked, her voice shaking. "Are you sure you know what you’re saying?"

She swallowed hard, her grip on Anaya’s hand tightening with disbelief.

"I wanted to be extremely sure the first time," the healer began, his voice calm yet filled with warmth. "That’s why I didn’t share the news earlier. But now that I’ve taken her pulse again, I can say with certainty..."

He paused, looking at each of them with a smile that slowly stretched across his face.

"The young lady is with child. She’s carrying a baby."

Gasps escaped from both Rhys and Kisha as Anaya’s hand instinctively moved to her stomach.

"I believe this child is... a miraculous one," the healer continued, his voice now laced with reverence. "Because just as the pregnancy stabilized... her senses returned. It can’t be a coincidence." He let out a soft laugh of joy, his eyes misting with emotion. "Truly a blessing."

"I... I’m really pregnant," Anaya whispered, her voice trembling. Tears slid freely down her cheeks as her hand remained protectively over her belly.

Before she could speak another word, Rhys pulled her tightly into his arms, holding her as if she were the most precious thing in the world. Tears streamed down his face as he gently patted her back.

Kisha stood beside them, sobbing even harder now, a hand pressed to her chest.

"Who would’ve thought..." she cried. "My lady only had to get pregnant for her senses to return... Thank you so much, Healer. Thank you."

The healer gave a small bow, the wrinkles on his face deepening with his warm smile.

"I didn’t do anything, truly. The moon goddess had already blessed the couples," he said humbly. "Just know that Her Ladyship must not exert herself. It’s still very early in the pregnancy, which means she needs to be extremely cautious. I’ll prepare some herbal remedies to help support her and the baby."

He gave a final nod. "Congratulations. To both of you."

With that, he turned and quietly walked out of the room, Kisha trailing behind him to see him off. The door closed softly, leaving Anaya and Rhys alone.

For a while, neither of them spoke. Anaya remained wrapped in Rhys’s embrace, her heart beating fast beneath her ribs.

"You... you don’t have to take responsibility, Rhys," Anaya said at last, her voice soft but steady. "I know our intimate moment led to this pregnancy, but... I can raise the child on my own. I never want you to feel pressured. You’re the Queen’s man, after all. You have a path...."

"I’m not pressured," Rhys interrupted gently, his hand continuing to stroke her back. "And I’m not the Queen’s man anymore."

He pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, his voice full of quiet intensity.

"I’m your man now. Or at least... I want to be...unless you don’t want me."

Her eyes widened slightly, but he went on.

"But even if you don’t accept me now, I’ll keep doing whatever it takes to prove myself. I want to be your man, Anaya... and the father of our child."

"You..." she tried to speak, but her voice caught in her throat.

"You don’t have to say anything right now," Rhys murmured, cutting her off gently. His thumb brushed away the tears on her cheek. "Even before you regained your senses... I’d already fallen for you. And now, with this child between us, I know deep down I’ve always been yours."

He smiled faintly, voice thick with emotion. "We were made for each other, Anaya. I don’t care about the past anymore. All I care about is the future...with you."

Anaya’s breath caught as he slowly reached down, placing a hand over hers on her stomach.

"I know this might be hard to believe," Rhys added, his voice cracking slightly. "It might take time for you to trust me... but I’ll prove it. I’ll prove to you that I can be the man you need and the father this child deserves."

Tears fell freely from both of them now as they stood together, hands entwined over the still flatness of her belly. free𝑤ebnovel.com
