Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So!-Chapter 100: Go Ahead! Expose Me
Chapter 100: Go Ahead! Expose Me
Brandon stared at the confused investors who were questioning him over and over again. It’d been two days now and Evelyn was nowhere to be found.
The project they were initially handling had been put on hold, and the board members seemed worried, wondering if Evelyn was stopping the project.
But that was not the case at all.
She was missing. But he couldn’t tell them that. If anything, that information would only make things worse. They would panic and this project might never have the chance to be released.
As for Evelyn, he was sure that she would be found. Zayne had never stopped looking for her and he’d promised to find her.
"Just two days. In two days, she’ll be here and that project will be handled as intended."
Dante dragged his fingers through his hair. "We’re putting all our trust in her with this project and we can’t afford any form of disappointment."
"I assure you there won’t be any. You have nothing to worry about," Brandon smiled at them.
Matteo asked, "What about Mr. Mancini? Two board meetings had been held and he hadn’t attended. Is everything alright?"
"Yes, everything is fine."
They eyed him for a few more seconds before the meeting was finally dismissed.
Brandon picked out his phone as he proceeded to leave the company. He was trying to reach Zayne.
"Sir!" someone yelled, rushing towards him.
He paused and turned around to find Lucia breathing heavily.
"Lucia?"
"Sir, boss. Is she—is she alright?" she asked. "She hasn’t come to work for two days now. I’ve been calling her phone over and over again, but her number is unreachable and her phone is switched off." fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Brandon cracked a smile at her. "She’s fine. She just has something she’s dealing with. Don’t worry, she’ll be back to work pretty soon."
"Really?"
"Yes." He nodded.
A look of relief washed down her face and she bowed to him before turning and proceeding to walk back to her office.
Brandon stormed his way out of the company, dialing Zayne over and over again. But Zayne wasn’t answering. He’d been silent, and he couldn’t understand why.
Did something go wrong? Is it now impossible to find Evelyn?
———
Lincoln was pacing back and forth in his living room. Every now and then, he would glance at his phone, hoping for a call either from Zayne or even from anyone that has information on Evelyn.
Zayne hadn’t called for two days now. And neither Brandon even has an idea of what was happening at this point—-
His phone blared up.
He rushed over to the table and picked it up. It was Brandon calling.
"Hello?"
[Have you gotten anything on, Evelyn?]
"No. You?"
[Not yet. I’ve tried reaching Zayne over and over again, but he isn’t answering. Have you been able to reach him? I was thinking that maybe he—]
"I haven’t been able to reach him either, Brandon. I don’t know what is happening anymore or where to even begin looking. We couldn’t find anything in Valerio’s house, and we haven’t seen Zayne since that night. I don’t know if he found Evelyn or what even happened at that island."
[Calm down, uncle. I’m sure there is an explanation. Maybe he got into some kind of accident]
"Accident?" Lincoln bit down on his finger, overwhelmed with anxiety. "Shouldn’t we know by now if he did? I mean, this is Zayne Mancini we’re speaking of."
[Can you drive to my house? We can go to his house together]
"Is that okay?"
[Anything to find Evelyn. Thirty minutes]
The call ended.
Lincoln rushed over to his room, grabbing a coat. As he slipped into it, he grabbed his car key and rushed out of the house. He made his way over to the gate to open it, however, the second he did, he was met with none other than Preston.
The man stood with his hand hidden inside the pockets of his slacks.
"Going somewhere, uncle?"
Lincoln frowned at him. "What do you want?"
Preston grinned and pushed him aside as he stepped into the compound. "It’s been two days, Uncle and you haven’t been to work. As a good nephew of yours, I decided to come and find out why. I’d like to know what the problem is."
Lincoln’s gaze hardened. "Preston, I have things that I’m dealing with and that is why I couldn’t make it to work. You have nothing to worry about. I’ll come back soon and I’ll make sure to cover up for the days I’ve missed."
He tried to move past him to open the gate. But Preston grabbed his arm. "Something is not very right, uncle. And I don’t like being left in the dark."
"Meaning?"
"Explain to me why exactly you’ve missed work for two days in a row," Preston demanded. "It’s not like you at all. And it makes me curious, and I want to know, so tell me."
Lincoln stared at him, long and hard into his eyes before he slapped his arm off.
"Listen, Preston, I get it that I have to do everything you ask like some obedient dog, but my personal life has nothing to do with you. It’s none of your freaking business, so know your place and back off."
He stormed past him, grabbing and pushing the gate open.
Preston’s face fell. He didn’t like that his uncle was now talking back. Something was wrong somewhere.
"Uncle." He turned to watch the man who began stalking toward his car. "You know you’re the one who needs to know his place, right?"
Lincoln kept walking without looking back.
Preston’s expression fell, his grin disappearing. He scowled heavily, storming towards him. Before Lincoln could get into the car, he grabbed him, spinning him on his feet.
"Have you forgotten what you’re hiding? Have you forgotten that I could expose it and you—"
"Go ahead!" Lincoln glared at him. "Preston, go ahead and expose me."
He scoffed, "Yes, I am Evelyn’s real father. Yes, your father’s wife had an affair with me and it’s my fault. I coerced her into it. I’m an animal, a monster that betrayed his brother and should never be forgiven. I get it, so go ahead and expose me. I’ve had enough!"
He smacked his hand off. "I need you to keep in mind that I’m your uncle, Preston. I’m not your mate, and neither do you have any right to treat me the way you do or speak to me like you do. I am not your dog, I am father’s brother, so show some fucking respect. Do you understand me?"
While Preston stared at him with a shocked expression, jaw fallen, he shoved him off and got into the car, slamming the door shut.
"Get out of my way. I have somewhere important to be."
Taking a reverse, he sped out of the compound, driving onto the road, uncaring that his gate was left open.
His phone rang. It was Brandon calling.
[Where are you, Uncle?]
"I’m on my way. Just wait for me. Twenty minutes, and I’ll be there."
