Betrothed To An Alpha? I Don't Think So!-Chapter 110: A Bit…Strange?
"That’s impossible." Dario chuckled. "This is Zayne we’re talking about. He wouldn’t die so easily. It’s just impossible. Now go." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Alessio nodded, forcing himself to walk off to the car. Luca limped, following after him, barely able to keep up.
Dario glanced around. He looked for a way to the very ground that led into the ocean, and doing so, he hurried off, running downhill until he could reach beneath the bridge.
He looked around for any signs of Zayne. But there was none.
"ZAYNE!"
Still nothing.
"ZAYNE!!"
Still nothing.
He slipped his jacket and shirt off, jumped into the freezing water, and tried to swim as far as he could manage, hoping to find him.
———
As Lincoln answered his buzzing phone, he rushed to his car, pulling the door open.
"Brandon," he answered.
[We’ve found her. Evelyn, we’ve found her!]
"Where is she?" Lincoln asked hurriedly, keeping his phone on the phone holder. He started the car, took a reverse, and proceeded to drive off the compound onto the road.
[She’s here at my dad’s hospital]
"A hospital?" Lincoln panicked. "What’s wrong? Is she hurt? What happened? Tell me, Brandon."
[She’s fine as far as I could tell. She wasn’t injured, but she wasn’t herself. I don’t know what had happened or what was wrong. But she’s in emergency right now and hopefully the doctor will tell us soon what is wrong]
"Okay, okay. I’m heading over there. Keep an eye on her and if anything changes, let me know."
[Of course] The call ended.
———
Where am I...?
Evelyn found herself looking around. She was confused, frowning at the location she was at which was of course the very same bridge where Zayne had fallen off.
That was a dream, she was sure of it. And right now, she was having the very same dream.
Where was he?
She looked around, pausing at her left where Zayne stood, hunched over the railing as if he were trying to help someone up.
She stormed off towards him, reaching to touch him. "You shouldn’t be doing that, Zayne. You might fall off and—"
The heavy sound of a gunshot sounded and before she could even register what had just happened, Zayne slipped off the railing, falling off toward the water.
Her pupils dilated, her lips parting as she screamed, "ZAYNE!!!"
"We’ve got her back! Call the doctor!" she heard the voices she’d never heard before, something too bright being shone at her face.
Evelyn blinked her eyes open. She stared at the white ceiling, turned her head to the side at the two men, pointing a bright torch at her face.
"Can you see us, Ms Darkwood?" one of them asked.
Evelyn was breathing exhaustedly. She fluttered her eyes slowly, asking, "Where am I?"
"You’re at the hospital?" the blonde nurse responded. "How do you feel?"
The other said to her, "You should stay calm, the doctor is almost here."
The door opening sounded and heavy footsteps reverberated before a face came into view. A man she’d never met before, dressed in a white hospital coat, and staring over her.
"Do you feel dizzy?" he asked, proceeding to check her heartbeat.
Evelyn shook her head. "I’m fine." She tried to sit up, but they wouldn’t let her.
"Don’t try to get up for now. You need to—"
"I have to find him," she snapped at him.
"Ms. Darkwood, please rest back. We are not completely sure of your state for now, so please stay still and allow me to check you over."
Evelyn felt too weak to even move. She could barely feel her entire body and even her head was ringing.
She felt something pinch her arm, and a kind of liquid pumped into her vein. Slowly, but eventually, she felt her eyelids grow heavy and before she knew it, she blacked out, falling unconscious.
"How is she?" the doctor asked.
"She’s stable now. Her heart rate is back to normal," the other nurse answered.
The doctor nodded. "Good. Bring me the test results. I have to speak to her family."
"Yes, sir!"
....
Lincoln burst through the door, rushing over breathlessly with shoulders heaving up and down.
He glanced around searching for Brandon.
"Sir, how may I help you?" A nurse approached him.
"I’m looking for my daugh—I mean, my niece!"
"Your...niece?"
"Yes, Evelyn Darkwood. She was admitted here this morning."
"May I ask your name, sir?"
"Lincoln Darkwood."
"Oh!" The nurse who’d only just seemed to realize that he was a part of the Lincoln family, deeply bowed to him. "I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize. Brandon Darkwood is already here for her."
"Where is he?" Lincoln questioned.
"Please follow me, sir," the nurse said, turning to walk towards the hallway.
He followed behind her and after a few minutes, from a bit of a distance, he could see Brandon who was seated on the waiting chair, head lowered to the floor. He ran on his feet towards him, stopping the second Brandon lifted his gaze at his presence.
"Brandon!"
"Uncle. That took you a while," Brandon said.
"There was traffic," Lincoln responded. "How is she? Has the doctor said anything yet?"
Brandon shook his head. "No. He hasn’t come over yet. But I think Evelyn is okay for now?"
"How can we be so sure?"
Lincoln began to pace the hallway.
"If she were okay, wouldn’t the doctor already be here, telling us what was wrong with her?"
"True, but..." The rest of Brandon’s words trailed off as a middle-aged man who’d approached them deeply bowed to them. "You’re her brother, right?"
"Yes." Brandon nodded.
The doctor looked at Lincoln. "And you are...?"
"I’m her uncle."
"Alright well—" The doctor adjusted his glasses. "—Evelyn is fine, however, there is something that I uh...found a bit strange."
"A bit...strange?"
"Yes." the man nodded. "Something about her blood isn’t..." The man hesitated, seeming confused. "Her blood is like something I’ve never seen before. And her heart rate...it’s faster than a normal human heart rate per second."
Lincoln frowned. "What...are you trying to say?"
