Chapter 45 - 40: Master, is the air above very fresh?
"I'm being selfish!" Yi Weiyang let out a bitter laugh. "I want to keep Luowa, want her to be my child for the rest of my life. When they left, I still held on to a fantasy—fantasizing that Xi Meichen wouldn't reveal this matter in front of everyone."
"That venomous woman could do anything for the Yi family inheritance." Tong Airui frowned slightly. "How did you discover that Yi Luowa wasn't a child of your Yi family?"
"It was when Luowa was eight, she fell ill and was hospitalized. During her blood type testing, I found out her blood type didn't match mine, my brother's, or that woman's. I suspected she was born of Xi Meichen and someone else. I specifically returned to Z country, secretly took my brother's and Xi Meichen's hair to do a DNA test with Luowa's. The results showed Luowa had no biological relationship with either of them. I went to the hospital where Luowa was born to investigate but found no clues. Later, I decided to keep the child by my side and raise her as my own daughter."
"Can you tell me the name of that hospital?" Tong Airui asked Yi Weiyang in a somber tone.
Yi Weiyang's face stiffened. "You want to investigate?"
Tong Airui nodded. "That girl has a great bond with you. Even if I uncover something, she won't leave you!"
Yi Weiyang gave a self-deprecating laugh. "Here I am being selfish again! She was born in St. Mary Hospital in F country. I'll have my family send you her birth certificate later."
Tong Airui gently patted Yi Weiyang's arm. "You're not selfish at all. In fact, you seem noble to me. Faced with a huge fortune and Yi Luowa, your first question to me was about her, not whether the money had come into your hands."
"Money is something you live without and die without. I don't know how many more years I have left to live."
"Mr. Yi, I need to tell you another thing—Yi Shaoqing and Yi Lingfei aren't your brother's children."
Yi Weiyang stared at Tong Airui in shock.
"Please don't panic yet; here's the situation. I've had people tracking Xi Meichen and Bai Bowen. One of their conversations caught my attention, which led me to conduct this DNA test."
Tong Airui recounted what had just transpired to Yi Weiyang. At this moment, he was the head of the Yi family and needed to be fully informed to handle the matters ahead.
"Thank you!" Yi Weiyang, who had survived death's door twice, quickly regained his composure after a brief surprise.
"And I need to thank you for trusting me!" Tong Airui smiled. "After you watch the final act in this drama, I'll no longer intervene in Yi Corporation's matters."
"Trying to avoid suspicion?" Yi Weiyang chuckled.
Tong Airui's lips curved slightly. "You could say that. I hope you make a speedy recovery! Yi Corporation can't be left without leadership."
Just as Yi Weiyang was about to respond, the sound of pounding footsteps echoed from the hallway.
"Second Uncle..." Within three seconds, Yi Luowa hopped in on one leg, stopping mid-sentence when she saw Tong Airui already there.
Yi Weiyang looked tired as he glanced at Yi Luowa. "I'm exhausted and want to rest for a while. Luowa, if there's anything, let's talk after I wake up."
"Second Uncle, that's not fair! I have so much to say to you!" Yi Luowa limped to the bedside. Seeing her uncle actually shut his eyes, she raised her hand and poked his eyelashes. "Whenever you don't want to answer my questions, you pretend to sleep. That's not funny at all."
Tong Airui watched the two of them with amusement. "Mr. Yi really is tired. If you have questions, I can answer them for you."
Yi Luowa poked Yi Weiyang's eyelashes again. When he still didn't respond, she pouted and turned to Tong Airui. "Thanks for today, by the way!"
Tong Airui raised an eyebrow. "So you do know human language after all?"
Yi Luowa laughed and nodded. "Master, you're too clever! Not only do I speak human language, but I also know animal language. Normally, I speak appropriately based on the audience—human words for humans, ghost words for ghosts. If I meet cats or dogs, I go with animal language."
Tong Airui glanced at her sideways. "Go to my room!"
"Yes, Master!" Yi Luowa pouted as Tong Airui walked out. She stood behind him and raised her fist.
"I suggest you put your claws away immediately, or you won't look pretty!" Tong Airui exited without turning his head.
"What a monster, even his back has eyes," Yi Luowa muttered, turning to look at the still-pretending-to-sleep Yi Weiyang. "You just wait! When you recover, I'll make sure to torment you!"
Yi Weiyang remained motionless, continuing his act. Only after the sound of retreating footsteps grew faint did he open his eyes to glance at the door. He wanted some time to gather himself. He feared that Yi Luowa might suddenly tell him she was leaving. But judging by her words just now, she wouldn't leave while he was still sick. With enough time, he'd figure out a way to keep her around!
In the hallway, Tong Airui heard the sound of footsteps and turned to see Yi Luowa hobbling toward him. He frowned and asked, "Where's your wheelchair?"
"In the car." Considering how much Tong Airui had helped her and her second uncle, Luowa's attitude softened.
"Why didn't you use it to come up?"
"The wheelchair's too slow. I have so many things to ask my second uncle."
For the first time, the two exchanged words so calmly.
"Want to take a walk downstairs with me?" Tong Airui suggested, heading toward the elevator.
"Hey, can't you see I'm hobbling? How can I walk?" Yi Luowa protested.
"I'm injured too!" Tong Airui pressed the down button on the elevator. "Only by coming downstairs with me can you get the answers you want."
Yi Luowa quickly hopped and followed him. "Wait for me!"
Tong Airui's lips lifted slightly. He had plenty of ways to handle her!
Once the two stepped into the elevator and the doors closed, the doors of another elevator opened. Tong Aino pushed Mi Chenshuo out of it.
Outside the elevator, Mi Chenshuo joked, "You wouldn't push the wheelchair unless I sat in it. Aren't you worried about the weight?"
Tong Aino snorted, abandoned the wheelchair with the person still in it, and strode off toward Tong Airui's room.
In the other elevator, Yi Luowa tilted her head to look at Tong Airui. "Alright, spill it. What do you know?"
"Not yet. We're not downstairs," Tong Airui replied, looking down at her.
Yi Luowa pouted. "Master, isn't the air up here nice and fresh?"
Tong Airui's lips curled faintly. "It's alright. At least I don't have to breathe the same air as you."
