Chapter 251: A little dinner get together. A debrief of sorts
"So? How was everything?" Kim asked, excited. Andrew was still feeling pretty okay. He’d been to several houses, he’d traveled a lot and was stressed a lot. He’d even been in a shop with a bunch of other people and had behaved himself, so he was pretty confident that he could handle one more location before he needed to go home and recover.
That meant, instead of meeting at the coffee shop or wherever Maxwell’s parents and the Proctor’s had been hiding while they toured, they met at a restaurant. Of Thomas’ choosing, since Andrew had no preferences, nor did Maxwell.
They ended up at a restaurant Andrew had never heard of, but Maxwell and everyone else had, in a private room, with a huge table. The table was big enough that it had Andrew tensing. It was even set for more people then he anticipated, but Thomas had clarified for him so that Andre wasn’t surprised.
Surprises weren’t exactly the best thing for him right now.
"May called and asked if it was okay if her daughter and her partner came for dinner as well. I said yes, thinking you wouldn’t have any issues with it." Thomas said. He could feel how everyone else was watching him. They all knew Rose and Jordan from the celebration party of his enrollment in medical school, and his pass of the exam. Andrew, thankful it wasn’t anyone strange, relaxed.
"Ah. She probably just wants to check on me." Andrew muttered, and Maxwell squeezed his hand as everyone found their seats. It was only after everyone had sat that Kim began her line of questioning.
Andrew had barely settled in, the waiter hadn’t been by to get an order for drinks, and The Gates family was still on their way. Maxwell chuckled.
"Kim, we should wait for everyone else. I doubt we have the energy to repeat it twice and get asked the same questions. Andy has been doing well today, but I’m not a monster. I’m not going to push him in ways I don’t have to." Maxwell said, smiling, but the warning was heard and received. Kim pouted, but sighed, nodding her head.
"Sorry. You’re right. I’m just so excited I just want to know everything now." Kim apologised. She was sitting at the end of the table, Jenny across from her. Jenny was sitting next to Maxwell, and Andrew next to him, and across from him was Thomas and Luis.
"Exactly, You know that May and Ford would be upset if we started this discussion without them around." Luis said, shaking her head and Kim sighed again.
"Alright. I get it. I understand I’m in the wrong here." Kim said, and Maxwell chuckled again, his hand sliding to Andrew’s thigh and Andrew stiffened.
Normally, he had no issue with little touches, little brushes, all of it. But he was...it wasn’t okay to have Maxwell’s hand so close to certain parts of himself.
Andrew reached down, taking Maxwell’s hand in his own and raised it up until they were interlocked, and in plain sight. Maxwell, who had been rather innocent in his touch, stared in surprise. He stared at Andrew’s face, trying to understand why he had done what he had. Andrew felt his face flush, but didn’t want to explain it in front of everyone else.
Thankfully, Kim and the others were able to entertain themselves while Maxwell and Andrew had a conversation basically telepathically.
Maxwell squeezed Andrew’s hand, shifting in his seat until he was partially facing Andrew and gave him a concerned look. It was the exact reason that Andrew hadn’t just moved his hand off of his thigh and had instead raised his hand and interlocked his fingers.
Maxwell was asking if he had done something wrong. He had not done a single thing wrong. In fact, Andrew was kinda pissed at himself that he had to ruin a moment. Maxwell did touch him, and had been touching him more over the last week, but that was the anomaly. Especially in public. The fact that Maxwell had touched his skin on his own? That was a big deal. Andrew was pissed at himself that he couldn’t just let a good thing be.
He was a teeny tiny bit worried that this would make Maxwell hesitant to touch him like this again, but he had a feeling that wasn’t the case. Still, either way, Andrew slowly raised their interlocked hands and pressed a kiss against the back. He was showing Maxwell that he wasn’t upset in the slightest, but there were some things that just couldn’t be done right now.
Maxwell watched as Andrew pressed his lips against Maxwell’s skin, a tingling sensation entering Andrew’s lips at the slight contact before he lowered his hand slowly and Maxwell let out a soft exhale.
"Alright." He agreed out loud, his blue eyes closing for a moment before he opened them again and his expression softened. He took their hands, the same hands that Andrew had just kissed and flipped them, pressing his lips against Andrew’s skin. Andrew twitched.
It wasn’t fair when he was so cute. Andrew was doing his best to contain himself, behave. Maxwell’s blue gaze told him that he knew that, and Andrew let out a shaky breath.
"Are you two done flirting, or am I going to have to watch this the whole dinner?" Rose’s snarky voice filled the air and Andrew flinched, before he grumbled and turned a glare towards the family. May and Ford were pulling out seats next to Luis and Thomas, while Rose and Jordan were coming around, joining them at the table.
Rose made Jordan sit next to Andrew so that she was on the end. Andrew could tell that wasn’t what Jordan wanted. He wanted to be far away from everyone else, but Rose wasn’t going to have it. Andrew glanced over, and realised that May had done the same thing to Ford as well. May and Rose capped the table on one side, while Kim and Jenny capped it on the other side.
"We’re just checking in with each other." Andrew protested, instantly on edge because it was Rose who said anything.
She smirked, looking over Jordan’s brightly coloured head and putting her hands behind her back. She was in a full dress suit, tie pin and all, and Andrew would be the first to admit that the clothes suited her. Like Maxwell, she had always looked good in formal attire.
Jordan, on the other hand, looked a little less formal. Andrew said nothing, knowing that it was probably a sore spot for him. Andrew would find it to be for him if Maxwell was always really well dressed, and then Andrew came in and he was just...well, Andrew. Jordan at least had a sense of style that was unique that made him stand out.
Andrew was pretty sure the trend was a mix between street fashion and something a little more elegant? Andrew had no clue. He barely understood fashion, and that was intentional on his part. He might change his opinions on it now because Maxwell certainly cared about appearances, but this was a lifelong hate on Andrew’s part.
He had always known that his father had cared about physical appearances, and Andrew only made due with the bare minimum as a way to get back to him. The man clearly was a bit eccentric, so Andrew had gone in the exact opposite direction. Classic fashion, lots of black, white and creams.
Childish, he knew, but he had been a child when it started and it had matured with him. He also liked that now he could use it to tease Maxwell. Maxwell had hated his all black suit, but he’d grown out of it. Maybe once all of this was done, he could ask Luis or Thomas to help him find a store to get another made at. Maxwell would probably hate it, but Andrew liked the classic look. He could go out of his comfort zone and wear the brightly coloured suits the rest of his family did, but he needed something that was him.
Something that was just Andrew.
"Checking in, huh? By kissing each other’s hand?" She asked, her lips twitching with humour. Andrew sighed.
"Yes, checking in. Making sure I don’t need to leave because I’m a moody asshole, or I’m upset by someone else." Andrew said pointedly and Rose rolled her eyes.
"Come on, You can’t be that sensitive." She said and her Mom chuckled.
"Oh yes he can. Did you forget our sweet Andy is the most sensitive out of you three?" May said, clearly with affection as she stared at Andrew, smiling. "Did you have a good day? Was it fun?" She asked and Andrew, who had felt himself getting worked up by the way that Rose was speaking to him, felt himself relax. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
He forced his body to relax more, and the conversation was interrupted by the waiter coming and checking in on everyone and starting to get orders for drinks. Maxwell told his Dad to order for the table, since he and Andrew had no capacity to make choices, and after making sure no one else had any allergies, Thomas also ordered for the table. Everything was done at once, those who wanted to drink could, and Andrew was feeling a bit more like himself.
He had a feeling it had to do with the fact that he was between two omegas. One was his partner, and one was the partner of Rose. He felt...safe, oddly. Well, it shouldn’t be too odd. Andrew knew that he gravitated towards omegas. He was sure it had something to do with the fact that his only parent had been one, but he also just felt calmer around them.
Sighing, Andrew slumped over onto Maxwell’s shoulder, turning his face into his neckline so he could just inhale his scent, letting himself relax.
The table went silent for a moment as Maxwell raised his hand, running his fingers through his hair.
"Andy, you okay?" Maxwell asked softly and Andrew nodded.
"I just need a moment to relax." Andrew whispered and he could feel his chuckle through his body.
"Alright. You worried everyone there for a second." Maxwell chastised and Andrew didn’t move.
"Sorry. You just smell good." Andrew told him. "I just wanna smell you for a minute." Rose snorted.
"Anyone else and this would be sexual harassment." Andrew, without missing a beat, raised his other hand and flipped her off. Kim snorted.
"Glad to see that you two are still so close. Is it alright if Maxwell answers our questions, Andy?" Kim asked, clearly at her own personal limit. Andrew chuckled.
"Knock yourselves out." Andrew murmured, getting drunk on Maxwell’s pheromones. God, he loved them so damn much. It was tragic that he wasn’t able to inhale them every second of the day.
