Chapter 252: Just put Andrew on them

"So? Did any parts of any of the houses you visited pass the test?" Kim asked, shifting to lean against the table, closer to Maxwell and Andrew. Maxwell chuckled, his hand wrapped around Andrew’s head as Andrew continued to lean against his shoulder, taking a breather. Literally.

"Well, short answer, no." Maxwell said, and Thomas groaned. Kim looked a little smug, before she wiped the expression off of her face.

"What? Oh no. That’s terrible." Kim said with sarcasm. Jenny chuckled, taking a sip of her water.

"You’re not fooling anyone, dear." She told her and Kim grinned.

"I’m sorry. It is a bit of a competition between Thomas and I. I was worried that you would fall in love with a place before you even got to see what I wanted you to see." Kim said, and Thomas was doing his best to keep his composure.

"Was there anything you liked?" He asked, and Maxwell’s silence spoke volumes. May and Ford remained silent, while Kim looked on gleefully.

"Part of it was our own fault. We didn’t send our realtor any information about us. No height reference, none of what we wanted in a place. They were stuck showing us pretty generic homes. Both Andrew and I agree on that. Despite that, Andrew was able to limit down some things that liked, and things he hated. I also did the same, and we really liked the realtor we had." Maxwell’s hand patting Andrew’s head hesitated for a second before he spoke. "We also learned a bit about the company you have set us up with tomorrow." Kim’s ears perked up and she smiled.

"Ah! I didn’t tell you much about them, did I?" Kim seemed very excited to talk about them, but was interrupted when the drinks arrived. Andrew didn’t shift his position, letting the wait staff work around his large frame. Thankfully, he left enough space for them to move around him, and Maxwell, so neither of them had to move. One of the wait staff asked Andrew if he wanted a straw, and thankful, Andrew said yes.

Kim waited until everyone was gone once more before she continued.

"I don’t think it’s a hard assumption to believe that Thomas, or the Beckett’s I should say, found a realtor agency that they liked and have worked with just them for pretty much everything, correct?" Kim clarified and Thomas nodded.

"That’s correct. That’s why I suggested them to Max and Andy." Thomas confirmed and Kim smiled, taking a sip from her glass of wine. Her, Jenny, May and Luis were splitting a bottle. Rose was drinking a cocktail, same with Thomas. Ford had gotten a pop, same with Jordan, and Maxwell had gotten straight up whiskey. No ice, not water, just straight up. Andrew had gotten a pop, but a fancy pop. He wanted to celebrate a little.

"Well, the Proctors are the same. We’ve had a group that has been working with us to find real estate for years. Generations wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to say. While Andy hasn’t really spoken to anyone yet from the Proctor family, especially since he comes from a branch family, I do want him to see some of the benefits from it. He’s wealthy in his own right, he doesn’t have to rely on our name, but I want him to see some of the things that he could get. What is owed to him." Kim said. Her mouth was smiling, and Andrew didn’t doubt the smile either, but there was a hardness in her gaze.

He wasn’t sure what it meant, but he was sure there were more emotions behind her words then he was able to decipher. Especially right now. Andrew felt like he only had half of his normal common sense. The other half was taken up by how good Maxwell smelled at all times.

"We heard that it’s a group that only works with true alphas?" Maxwell prompted, and Kim sighed.

"Is that what they told you?" She didn’t sound like she was accusing the other realtor, but Thomas clearly took it that way. He puffed up slightly, and Kim smiled, raising her hand in a placating gesture as with her other hand she raised her wine glass to her lips. "Relax, Thomas. I didn’t mean that in a bad way. It’s something that I hear often about the agency." She sighed, putting her glass down.

"Was the realtor wrong?" Maxwell asked, trying to get to the bottom of it. Andrew smiled. What a good partner he had. So smart. So pretty. So inquisitive.

"Well, not quite. They have been working with mostly true alpha families for quite some time, but they also work with other wealthy clients. They are quite exclusive, but-" Andrew cut Kim off, speaking up for the first time since Maxwell had taken over for answering questions.

"Are they going to discriminate against Max? Because if they are, I might get violent." Andrew, normally one to censor himself a little bit, wasn’t able to do so. Rose sputtered, nearly choking on her water, while May’s eyes went wide. Andrew shrugged his shoulders, not moving from his spot against Maxwell’s shoulder. "What? I think it’s fair. Be mean to my omega, and I’ll break parts of your body. I can’t have all of these muscles for no reason." Andrew sounded reasonable, but his words? They were a little less so.

"Andrew Knox." Maxwell said, laughter in his voice. "You cannot keep doing this." Maxwell tugged on his hair, forcing Andrew to move away from his shoulder. Andrew pouted. He wanted to keep lying there. He was able to breathe in Maxwell’s pheromones without looking like a freak.

"What? What did I do?" Andrew asked, worried. Maxwell had his hand still in Andrew’s hair, and his expression was soft. His eyes were a little watery and Andrew felt a sense of panic fill him. "What did I do?" Andrew asked, a little more urgency and Maxwell laughed, wiping at his eyes.

"You need to stop declaring things like this. I would like, for once, our big moments to be when others aren’t watching." Andrew didn’t know what he meant. He was trying to think over what he said, but he was drawing a blank. When he glanced around the table, everyone else was covering their mouths, joy or happiness in their gazes. Andrew had not a single clue what he had done.

When he turned his gaze back to Maxwell, Maxwell seemed to understand that he wasn’t getting it.

"Andy. You called me your omega. Possessive. That’s...that’s a big deal. About as big of a deal as when we officially started going out with Michael and my Father as witnesses." Maxwell’s voice sounded a little off, and Andrew now knew why.

He swallowed. He had thought it a few times at this point, but hadn’t thought anything of it. He had just chalked it up to his approaching rut. Apparently, it was a bigger deal than he knew.

"Oh." Andrew said, rather lamely, and Maxwell laughed.

"You didn’t have a clue, did you?" Andrew swallowed and shook his head slightly. Maxwell pulled him down, kissing his lips quickly before he pulled Andrew back to his shoulder, sighing. "I’ll let it pass this time, since I am so generous and kind. But next time you say something like that, Andrew Knox, be prepared for the consequences." Andrew felt a shiver run down his spine at the promise in his voice.

Andrew didn’t think he’d be afraid of what Maxwell was proposing. Hell, he was sure he would like it. He just...felt like this was one of those cultural moments that he was missing.

"A-Anyway." Thomas said, clearing his throat. "About Andy’s question before all of this. Are they going to discriminate against my boy?" Andrew was actually happy that Thomas had jumped in. Andrew felt like his heart was racing in his chest, and he wasn’t able to speak past the slight lump in his throat.

He was busy processing what Maxwell had told him, and was glad that someone had taken up the Maxwell cause. Kim cleared her throat, her own cheeks a little coloured as she tried to compose herself.

"Well, I would certainly hope not. The Beckett family is well known in town, and so are Max’s personal achievements. If I am honest with you, that wasn’t even something on my radar. If they are a problem, feel free to treat them however you see fit, I’ll deal with the fallout. I’m sure if you like Thomas’ realtor, but you liked any of the houses that you were shown by mine, you could be able to get them through Thomas’ realtor. I’ll make sure that if you like something, you will get it." Kim’s gaze held a hardness to it.

Andrew was sure that she hadn’t considered discrimination before, but now that it was on the table, she wasn’t going to stand for it. Andrew appreciated that part of her. The part that never wanted to give up on things like this.

"Well, we can’t know the future until it’s the present." Maxwell said, a smile in his voice. "That being said, I appreciate you having our back. I was briefly worried that you might tell us to keep our mouths shut." Maxwell said, laughing lightly and Kim snorted. Loudly.

"Absolutely not. This is a group that has worked with true alphas for a very long time. Andrew and I might not be the best examples, since both of us appear to be rather level headed, but most of our kind are, to put it politely, fucking awful." Jordan choked on his pop, and Rose helped soothe him.

"Well, I’m glad you said it." May said into her wine glass. Kim chuckled.

"I’m not afraid to say it. I come from a family who wants more true alphas. They breed little monsters. The only reason I’m not like the rest is because of my lovely lovely mate, and Andy’s Mom. Both of them kept my head on straight, making sure I didn’t turn out like the rest." Kim said, her tone a little wistful. "So, Maxy, and Thomas, if things get rough, let Andrew loose. The man probably has some extra energy to work out, and the realtors should be used to true alpha outbursts. Don’t wreck the house you’re in, but at the same time, either one of you would be able to cover the costs." Kim said dismissively, but a smile in her tone and on her face.

Andrew let out a laugh.

"Noted." He said and Maxwell chuckled. It was then that there was a soft knock on the door, and it seemed the dinner was served. All conversation about the viewings faded into the background as everyone dug in. Andrew, begrudgingly, had to sit up straight and eat his food. It would be a crime if he got a stain on Maxwell’s clothes, and he was sure Maxwell wouldn’t let him forget it.

Andrew sat in blissful happiness, surrounded by people that he cared about. This was...this was nice. Even with his emotions all over the place, this was nice. He was glad he was enough of himself that he was able to do this. He hoped that tomorrow was this easy as well. Thankfully, the doctor’s visit was in the morning on Monday so they didn’t have to wait long. Just another full day. Andrew could do it.
