Chapter 266: The comfort of your omega

Andrew knew that it was Maxwell who crawled into his lap and forced Andrew’s face into the crook of his neck. No one else would be that bold, nor would he allow anyone else that close to him.

Fresh air washed over them as Andrew wrapped his arms around Maxwell, pulling him tight against him as he breathed in his scent. He held his whole world in his arms right now, and he couldn’t stop his arms, his body from shaking.

"Oh Baby. You were way past your limit." Maxwell murmured, running his fingers soothingly through his hair. Andrew let out a whimper.

"I’m sorry. I just wanted to be able to support you." Andrew was seconds away from crying, and Maxwell sighed.

"It’s okay. It’s really okay Andy. I’m not upset. I’m not angry. I’m just worried about you, alright?" Andrew inhaled his scent, not responding and Maxwell sighed again. "Mom is just outside the room. They’re giving us some time for you to collect yourself. Do you think you can compose yourself enough to come to the meeting? We can also ask if the Doctor can meet us here." Maxwell offered softly, sweetly, and Andrew whimpered again.

He squeezed Maxwell, before he released his grip, worried he was hurting him.

"You aren’t hurting me Baby." Maxwell soothed, as if he was able to read Andrew’s dizzying thoughts. Andrew took a few deep breaths of Maxwell’s sweet, complicated scent before he turned his head and inhaled some of the fresh air pouring into the room.

"I don’t know." Andrew finally said, a small part of him back to the forefront. "I’m so scared. I can feel it now, Max." Andrew whispered and Maxwell wrapped his arms around him, squeezing him.

"Oh Baby. My Andy. It’s okay. I’ll text Mom, let her know we’d like the Doctor to come to us." Andrew waited, listening as Maxwell tapped away at his screen. The door opened only a few seconds later.

"Is Andy okay?" Luis asked, speaking from the doorway. Andrew looked up, able to see her, but his vision was a little hazy. He worried for a minute it was because his vision had worsened, until Maxwell adjusted his glasses and he let out a sigh of relief.

"I-I’m just...it’s coming." Andrew admitting, swallowing. "I can feel it now." Andrew told her and Luis’ jaw hardened.

"Alright. You two stay like that, or whatever is comfortable. I’ll make sure it happens." She said, closing the door and Maxwell turned back to Andrew, running his hands up and down his back. It was soothing, it was distracting, and the longer he did it, the more Andrew felt like himself.

"I’m so worried." Andrew admitted. "I don’t want to hurt you." Andrew told him, his lips trembling. "I’m worried that I’m going to. Heats and ruts are different. My fucking dick changes shape. I just-" Andrew cut off, trying to hold off the tears so he buried his head into Maxwell’s shoulder, holding him tighter.

"I don’t want to make fun of your fears." Andrew tensed at Maxwell’s words. "But Baby, I like that you knot me, remember? And I can take you, anytime, anywhere. I’m not upset about this. Not at all. If the condoms don’t work, I’m okay with the side effects of that. I’ve also already taken the birth control pills Michael gave us. The new ones. Anything you do to me, I promise, I’ll enjoy." Andrew frowned.

"But you don’t like it when we have sex without facing each other. I just know I’m going to do stuff like that." Andrew mumbled and Maxwell chuckled.

"Baby, when you are yourself, yeah, I don’t. But during your rut? You make sure I don’t forget who is in me, alright? So don’t worry about that aspect. Just worry about how much you’re going to fill me and how good it’s going to feel, alright?" Andrew nodded numbly, swallowing as Maxwell continued to comfort him.

It felt like it was only a few minutes later before the soft knock came and then the door was opened.

"Dear lord. Is he alright? What are you two even doing here when he’s so close to his rut?" The Doctor was upset for Andrew but it was Maxwell who answered this time.

"He was being stubborn. Wanted me to speak to you since...I had another episode." The Doctor sighed.

"Oh no. Well, that is not good. Uh, can he hear me?" The Doctor asked, concerned and Andrew let out a soft chuckle.

"I can hear you, Doc. Just...not fully here anymore." Andrew admitted easily. Andrew was able to watch the Doctor as they wheeled in a computer on a moveable desk and then she sat down. She began to type away. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"So you’re in because you had another episode? Can you explain the details?" Andrew, who would have gladly jumped in to explain the situation normally, found himself tongue tied. Maxwell didn’t let Andrew worry about it for long, though.

Instead, Andrew sat by while Maxwell explained everything that had happened, as Andrew had explained to him. Maxwell also explained that they had had a huge argument, and after that Maxwell had been feeling very anxious. He had started to behave strangely. He began waking up in the hallway, between all entrances and exits, in a pile of Andrew’s clothes that smelled like him.

The Doctor listened to Maxwell calmly, patiently as he continued to speak. He sounded like he was rambling, and Andrew could feel how he was shaking as he continued to stroke Andrew’s back. Andrew wanted to comfort him, but knew he couldn’t. His form of comfort was far too explicit for a hospital. He couldn’t get his head out of the gutter.

"Alright. So, it is worrying." The Doctor started once Maxwell had finished speaking. "But, while it is worrying, I am not panicking. Do you want to know why?" Maxwell and Andrew obviously did, and the Doctor smiled. "Because, I think it’s your body finally reaching a normal, omega response. You’ve spent so long living as basically, a dormant omega. An almost beta beyond your severe sensitivity to pheromones. With your partner being a true alpha, and a powerful one at that, your body has no choice but to wake up."

Maxwell seemed shocked, and Andrew wasn’t sure if he should feel relieved or not yet.

"I-Is that a good thing? Is he okay?" Andrew asked, desperate, and the Doctor gave him a warm smile.

"We’ll do some more bloodwork, just to keep an eye on it. In the future, if another episode happens, have Mr. Beckett come to the hospital immediately to get his blood drawn. I should have said this last time, but it escaped my mind. I’ll have it on file for you going into the future." Maxwell nodded. His hands were still shaking as they stroked Andrew’s back, but he seemed...better.

"So I’m not dying or anything like that?" He asked and his Doctor laughed.

"No, Mr. Beckett. You are showing classic nesting behaviours. Especially if you two had an argument. You were seeking comfort. But it is a little worrying, so I’m going to schedule a visit for you for a psychologist, just to see if there is a deeper concern there. My guess would be anxiety of some sort, but I would like to make sure that a professional talks to you about that." She said, and Andrew felt his shoulders relax slightly.

Anxiety. Not death. He could work with that.

"It would affect him poorly, helping me through my rut?" Andrew asked and the Doctor turned, giving Andrew a warm smile.

"It didn’t affect him poorly when you helped him through his heat, so I can’t see how your rut would be any different. It will probably help him to come face to face with an alphas pheromones, and for him to have to release his own in kind. It should be good for his body. I see that you are wearing a collar, Mr. Beckett. Are you two not going to mate during this rut?" She asked kindly and Maxwell swallowed.

"We haven’t made any plans to mate." Maxwell told her and she just nodded, while Andrew went on alert. Maxwell sounded...he wasn’t sure what he sounded, but something was up.

"Hmm, well, I understand, Relationships of the heart are harder to manage than the body. I would suggest that if you two are quite serious about each other, it might be something to consider from a medical standpoint. If you were mated, Mr Beckett, you would probably have an easier time with other pheromones, and your partner would probably have an easier time as a true alpha as well. One of the positive side effects of having a partner is the reduction of pheromones. It’s a relatively new study, but it has shown that it happens across the board, even for true alphas." She smiled at the two men who held each other in the chair across from her. "It also provides a sense of comfort that cannot be found outside of mated couples. I will not force you, but I would consider it seriously once this rut is over."

"Okay." Maxwell said, swallowing and Andrew squeezed him. His head felt dizzy at the news. Why had he never considered that it could have a positive impact on Maxwell? He wouldn’t be as sensitive to pheromones? That was a huge thing for him. Andrew’s head spun as the idea of sinking his teeth into Maxwell’s neck filled his mind.

Oh shit. He needed to not think about that right now.

"I’ve already called over our aid to get your blood drawn, and once that is done, you two are free to go. If you have any issues, don’t be afraid to contact us." The Doctor said. "Especially if you’re worried about anything related to omega concerns." She added, her eyes sparkling as she stared at the couple.

"We have another Doctor, Dr. Smith, who is a good friend of Andrew’s. He’s keeping an eye on us as well." Maxwell told her and she smiled.

"Ah. I thought he was just a celebrity Doctor. It is good to know he is able to do his job." It sounded like a dig, and Andrew stiffened.

"He has to keep a low profile since he works with rather delicate patients. Mostly true alphas and manifested true alphas like me. If he wasn’t viewed as a celebrity Doctor they wouldn’t even approach him." Andrew wouldn’t let anyone speak poorly of his friends. Even if it was Maxwell’s Doctor.

She seemed surprised, but only laughed off the anger that was coming off of Andrew.

"Ah. I didn’t mean that in an offensive way. I see the papers he publishes, and that most of his patients are numbered. I am also familiar with having patients like that." She gave Maxwell a pointed look before there was a knock on the door and another woman entered with a little cart. "Now, let’s get that blood drawn and taken care of so you two can go enjoy yourselves, hmm?"
