(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 567: A dinner gone to waste?
The new little baby from Richard and Ellis didn’t have a name for a while. This was because, even after the birth, Richard and Ellis were having a hard time narrowing down the name for the little guy.
Andrew of course, had some ridiculous suggestions that made Richard’s lip curl and Ellis laugh, but Maxwell seemed rather unimpressed. Andrew stopped joking about it rather quickly.
However, they did come up with a name. Daniel Luke Gates. Andrew wasn’t sure why they had gone with such a name, but Maxwell seemed to understand, and if Maxwell understood, then it sounded like some part of the name was related to Ellis’ past.
Andrew thought it was a good name for such a little guy, and he was little. Even compared to the other two babies he’d seen recently, he was small. The Doctor said it was because he was early, but all of the parts that he needed had formed, he just needed to get some food into him. Andrew liked the kind way that the Doctor smiled as he said that, and it was clear that the new parents thought the same.
Andrew did think that it was ridiculous how May and Ford had two grandkids in under a year, and how they were probably about to have a third following shortly after.
Maxwell, in the time after Ben and Amir had been by, was getting more affected by ’something’. His desire for sweets had increased, his tiredness had also increased, and the other day he had almost cried when Andrew had shifted slightly when they were cuddling because he thought Andrew was pulling away from him.
It was unlike him, and even Maxwell was aware that something wasn’t normal. His normally very smart, very intuitive husband was not putting the pieces together, even if they had been very intentional on their honeymoon. It was honestly...very endearing that his brain just wasn’t catching on that maybe, just maybe, their two week love making session had resulted in what love making was supposed to result in.
However, Andrew didn’t like feeling superior to Maxwell for any length of time, so Andrew, on the sixth week, prepared to talk to Maxwell about it.
Maxwell came home on a Friday with the weekend off for the first time since they’d gotten back from their honeymoon and Andrew had made him an elaborate meal. It was all of Maxwell’s favourites, and Andrew’s favourites while Andrew kinda knew Maxwell was going to avoid his favourites and go for Andrew’s.
Maxwell, at first, thought that something was wrong. He could tell that something was up, but the wires just weren’t quite reaching to where they normally did. His gaze was narrow as he came into the house and rounded the corner, his mind racing, but it kind of felt like he was running in spot instead of moving forward.
"What’s all this?" Maxwell asked as he pulled off his jacket slowly. Andrew was there to take it from him, all smiles as Maxwell stared at Andrew and then the table in the dining room set up with plates of food and candles.
"You finally got out of the hole our honeymoon caused, so I wanted to celebrate. Are you upset about that?" Andrew asked and Maxwell slowly shook his head, still looking suspicious. Andrew just shook his head, taking Maxwell’s coat and hanging it up.
"Is that it?" Maxwell asked, still voicing his suspicion and Andrew chuckled.
"Angel, what else would there be?" Andrew asked, knowing full well that the little box with the pregnancy test in it was tucked into the drawer with the cutlery. Andrew thought it would be a little too on the nose so he kept it nearby on the table and might make Maxwell lose his appetite.
Andrew wanted the man to eat, even if the test came out negative. He cared more about Maxwell as a whole than if he was pregnant, but...he wouldn’t deny that if the test came back positive that Maxwell truly did have to eat.
"I don’t know. I just...feel that something isn’t quite right." Maxwell muttered. Andrew grinned to himself as he watched Maxwell make his way to the dining room even as he complained. "You made so much food." Maxwell commented as Andrew grabbed them some water and joined him in the dining room. They liked to sit kitty corner to each other so that they could hold hands as they ate.
It was something that had started at their old house and had continued here. Maxwell sat at the head of the table and Andrew sat to the left. Maxwell was already settled at the table, staring at the food with a rather strange expression as he scanned everything before him.
"This must have taken you a very long time." Maxwell commented and Andrew grinned. He leaned in, pressing a kiss to Maxwell’s forehead with ease.
"You are always worth it." Andrew told him without hesitation. Andrew watched as Maxwell’s ears turned pink, the man shyly looking down at the empty plate before him before he cleared his throat. Andrew didn’t know why he was reacting that way, until he saw that Maxwell’s eyes were watering.
It became concerning when Maxwell raised his hand, wiping at his eyes with his fingers. Andrew frowned, concern filling him as he leaned in closer.
"Are you alright, Maxy? Did that upset you?" Andrew asked carefully and Maxwell shook his head.
"No. You didn’t do anything wrong, I just...fuck. I feel like I’m losing my mind. I normally don’t get so emotional over something you say." Maxwell raised his head, his expression full of confusion. "What’s wrong with me? Why do I feel so strange? And I’m sleeping so much. I almost fell asleep at my desk today. I had to start asking my secretaries to come check on me to make sure I didn’t do such an embarrassing act." Maxwell looked lost.
So lost that Andrew just couldn’t keep this to himself. He knew that he wanted Maxwell to eat, but to see him this torn up? There was no way that Andrew was going to be able to stop himself from trying to find a solution for him. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Andrew took Maxwell’s hand in his, pressing tender, caring kisses against his hand and fingers. Maxwell watched him, his eyes still watery, and the soft little sniffles he made nearly broke Andrew’s heart.
"Maxy. Have you...thought about what could be the cause?" Andrew asked carefully. Maxwell sniffled, staring at him and Andrew felt his heart squeeze.
"The cause?" Maxwell asked. "Maybe I’m getting sick?" He suggested and Andrew had to hide his smile behind Maxwell’s hand.
"Well, that might be the case." Andrew suggested and watched as a little crease formed between Maxwell’s brow.
"You have something in mind." Maxwell accused and Andrew gave a soft laugh.
"I do, and I’m a little baffled that you haven’t considered it, but I do think it’s very cute that you aren’t." Maxwell stared at Andrew, the frown still on his face, his eyes still watery and Andrew couldn’t resist kissing him. He was just too damn cute.
"Stop it." Maxwell muttered. "You’re making fun of me." He complained, but Maxwell was the one who wouldn’t let Andrew pull back. Andrew chuckled, staying close, their eye lashes practically touching if not for Andrew’s glasses.
"I’m not making fun of you, I’m just enjoying the moment. Will you let me go for a second so I can go grab something?" Andrew asked, and watched as Maxwell’s eyes watered further.
"You want to let go of me?" He asked and Andrew began to kick himself for not putting the pregnancy test on the table. He had thought that maybe Maxwell would have been able to handle this, but he had forgotten just how attached to Andrew he was.
"No Maxy. Not at all. I’ll be back in two seconds, alright? I’ll be in your line of sight." Andrew promised and it took about another two minutes of convincing and soft kisses before Maxwell would let Andrew go. It was sweet, a little frustrating, but Andrew wouldn’t trade this moment for anything else.
Andrew didn’t take his time. He rushed to the cutlery drawer, yanking the box out and rushing back to Maxwell’s side. He wasn’t going to let the man think he was taking advantage of his vulnerability, that was just not something that Andrew wanted him to consider, ever.
So, when Andrew sat back down and plopped the pregnancy test on the empty plate before Maxwell, the man stared at him.
Then, Maxwell turned his gaze back down to the box on the plate, no comprehension behind his eyes. Andrew took Maxwell’s hand in his own again, squeezing it as he let Maxwell think for a moment. A long, nearly painful moment before Maxwell sucked in a deep breath. When he raised his head again, the tears had spilled over.
"You think I’m pregnant?" Maxwell asked, his voice a little whiney. It was so damn cute that Andrew nodded, grinning. He placed his hand on top of Maxwell’s, gripping it with all his force.
"Yeah, I do. Think back on everything, Maxy. You’ve been sleepy, your tastes have changed, your emotions have gotten more prominent. You’re extra attached to my pheromones and don’t think I haven’t noticed how your nest has gotten bigger." Maxwell’s cheeks turned pink as Andrew listed off only the few things that he’d noticed. Maxwell’s tears continued to fall, breaking Andrew’s heart.
"You think I have a baby in me?" Maxwell asked weakly and Andrew felt his heart ache.
"Are you upset about that?" Andrew asked carefully, watching Maxwell’s reaction. He had thought that the man would be excited, but watching him cry like this was making Andrew reconsider.
Maxwell hung his head, shaking it, but that didn’t really answer what Andrew had asked. He didn’t rush him, squeezing his hand in his as he watched the other man.
"No. I just...I didn’t think it would take that easily." Maxwell admitted, embarrassed. Andrew gave a light laugh.
"I put in the work so that it would stick, Angel, and we aren’t sure yet. That’s why you need to take the test. I was going to wait until after dinner, but you seemed like you needed to know what I was thinking." Andrew told him and Maxwell sniffed. His shoulders started shaking and Andrew worried that things had taken a turn for the worst until he heard Maxwell’s laughter.
"How long have you been watching me thinking I was pregnant?" Maxwell asked, his gaze going between the box on his plate and Andrew’s warm gaze.
"Since we got on the plane." Andrew admitted, and watched as Maxwell’s eyes widened slightly before he let out a laugh.
"Come here. I need to kiss you." Maxwell told him and Andrew was no fool. He went where he was ordered.
"You should eat first." Andrew murmured against Maxwell’s lips and Maxwell kissed him over and over. Maxwell’s free hand sunk into Andrew’s hair, pulling him closer. After he kissed Andrew, he pressed his face against Andrew’s throat, inhaling his scent.
"I just want orange juice." Maxwell admitted and Andrew felt his shoulders begin to shake. He loved this man.
"Okay. I’ll get you some orange juice." Andrew promised.
