(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 566: A watchful eye
Andrew and Maxwell’s life settled back into a sense of normalcy. The first three weeks back from the honeymoon felt...normal. Well, after the first turbulent week back where they found out everything that had been going on behind their backs. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Even Maxwell hadn’t known everything, and that had been intentional on his part. He hadn’t wanted Andrew to feel completely left out, so he had alienated himself from his information network. It was a sweet gesture from his lovely husband.
However, Andrew was also watching his lovely, adorable, sweet husband like a damn hawk. Andrew had even been turning down his advances, at least when it came to penetration on Maxwell’s part.
There was no way that Andrew was going to put the little zygote in trouble. No damn way when he’d worked so hard to fertilize his husband. Very hard, and Maxwell could attest to that.
It was at the four week mark since the first day of their honeymoon that Andrew noticed something wasn’t quite right with Maxwell. It wasn’t obvious to anyone else, since Andrew was an observant freak who loved watching his husband, but Maxwell was slightly veering away from the foods that he normally ate.
Maxwell wasn’t a big flavours kind of man. He liked the food that Andrew made, but he liked when his food had a set flavour. Either savory, sweet, tart, spicy. It had to have one for the most part, not several. He didn’t like sweet and sour things as an example. While Andrew had no problems with such things. He also had a preference for more savory things as well. He had a sweet tooth, but he’d often only have half of a cookie.
It was a surprising thing to Andrew, who had no self control, but it was another thing to admire about the smaller man. However, things were slowly shifting, and it made Andrew’s senses perk up. It was during the fourth week that Andrew noticed that Maxwell was favouring the kinds of foods that Andrew liked.
It was subtle of course, like Maxwell reaching out for a salt and vinegar chip, or finishing a full cookie after dinner. Even him pouring more syrup on his pancakes when Andrew made them for breakfast one day. Small things, quiet things, but things that had Andrew on high alert.
Maxwell, however, didn’t really seem to notice them. Nor did he start to notice that it was getting harder and harder for Andrew to wake him up in the mornings, or that he was falling asleep on top of Andrew when they were watching t.v. at the end of the night before going up to bed.
Andrew could feel it in the air, but he wasn’t going to get excited yet. He wasn’t going to get his hopes up. It was too damn soon, but it was a good sign.
Andrew did call Michael though, because he needed another medical professional to know what was going on, and since Michael had clearance for Maxwell’s company, it wouldn’t be strange if he went to check on him.
Michael was ecstatic for them, and confirmed that it was too early for Andrew to get his hopes up. It was also a busy season for Maxwell, that could be his body’s way of getting more calories. He was very good at talking Andrew down from freaking out.
Did that mean that Andrew didn’t ask Maxwell about what he wanted for dinner and snacks more? No. Did it also mean that Andrew didn’t start recording it down in a journal? Also no.
Andrew was not going to miss a damn moment of this, even if it ended in sadness. He would not let himself. He would also not let Maxwell, well, at least not forever.

It was in the time that Andrew was waiting for a sign from Maxwell that something was going on that they got the call. Ellis had gone into the labour. The baby was coming. Forgetting everything else, Andrew and Maxwell dropped everything else and were at their sides in a heartbeat.
Maxwell was with Ellis and Richard in the delivery room, Andrew waiting outside. Ellis had never actually reached out to his family, even after a nudge and a push from Maxwell, but Maxwell didn’t seem to mind.
Instead, he was his anchor, his support through one of the most difficult and exciting moments of his life.
In the end, because of the plug issues, it did not take long for Ellis to push that baby out. They were also tiny, and that was a concern at first until the Doctors examined the little one and found him in perfect health.
Ellis had given birth to a perfect little baby boy who had only shown up a few weeks too early, but not enough to scare the team tending to them. Everyone cried, but Ellis and Maxwell cried the most. Even Andrew couldn’t outcry them. It was a rather intimate moment for them, something deeper than romantic as the two omegas cried with each other and Richard watched on, shaking as he stared at the little life he’d helped create.
It was a good thing that May had more free time, Andrew thought, since the new dads were going to need some expert help.

It was week five after their honeymoon that Amir and Ben came over for dinner, both glowing as they showed off the ultrasound that they had gotten. They didn’t confirm the gender, as they wanted it to be a surprise for everyone again, but they were so happy that the Doctors were saying everything was going well.
There didn’t appear to be any problems, and little Mehar was also on the right track. Seeing the little baby in their home, playing in the dining room around all the adults was doing something to Andrew’s insides.
There were more changes in Maxwell, subtle ones, but nothing that Andrew would point out because it completely benefitted him. Maxwell would stop him suddenly, pressing his face against his throat and inhaling deeply like he couldn’t get enough of him. He’d even asked Andrew for a little jerk off square that he could keep in his pocket for at work. He was really feeling anxious without Andrew’s scent around him at all times.
Andrew had no problems providing comfort for Maxwell. None at all.
Which explained why Andrew had a Maxwell glued to him while Amir and Ben were over. Maxwell was not normally a rather touchy-feely man. Everyone knew this, even if they also knew that Andrew was the exception to the rule. Ben, however, noticed how his brother, his savory brother, reached for the thick, triple chocolate brownies at the end of dinner without hesitation.
Ben’s eyes were huge as he watched Maxwell grab the offered caramel sauce and drizzled it over the warm brownie, his mouth open as Maxwell added whip cream, raspberries, and other sweet accessories to the brownie before he dug in. Amir, who wasn’t as familiar with Maxwell’s eating habits, stared, but shrugged it off.
Ben’s gaze darted to Andrew, something clicking in place before a devious, knowing smile crossed his lips. Andrew shook his head, not wanting to bring it up since Maxwell wasn’t even aware of the changes yet and it was still too soon. Maybe next week.
Probably next week they would talk about it. Do the first test and see what came of it. For now? Leave Maxwell alone to enjoy his brownie. Andrew had made them for him anyway, at his request. Andrew was never going to say no to the man, and had even made the caramel himself. He was out of school for the summer, technically, so he was at Maxwell’s disposal.
Ben was smart and didn’t bring it up, but he began watching Maxwell with a more interested gaze. It was a soft, protective gaze, not quite the same as the one he had for Amir, but still warm. Andrew realised it was his big brother gaze, and that only made Andrew smile.
Andrew was glad that he had been able to help them repair their relationship. Maxwell would have felt alone in this moment otherwise, even if he didn’t know it yet.
Maxwell and Amir both ended up getting sleepy rather quickly, Amir’s stomach already showing because he was so small and Mehar needed to be put down for the night so they didn’t end up staying late. Ben and Andrew had a moment to chat while Amir and Maxwell negotiated with a tired baby about getting into the car seat.
"Are you sure?" Ben asked quietly, helping Andrew load the dishwasher.
"No, but I’m hopeful." Andrew whispered back. "I’ve already spoken to Michael. He talked me down from getting too excited." Andrew admitted and Ben grinned. He reached out, slapping Andrew’s shoulder, hard.
"Good god, Andy. Well, either way, I’m happy for you. We’re here no matter what. You were there for us, there is no way we wouldn’t be there for you." Ben promised and Andrew really appreciated it.
"Honestly, that sounds great. Um, please keep this from your parents. Not that we’re hiding, I just-" Andrew didn’t need to finish that sentence. Ben was already nodding, completely understanding.
"Don’t even worry about it. I’ll tell Amir, and that’s about it. Mehar wouldn’t even understand if I told her yet, so it’s safe with us." Ben grinned again. "God, it’s going to be wild to watch this happen. Fuck, I never considered that it would happen at the same time." Ben said softly, shaking his head as he chuckled.
It was then that Amir, Mehar and Maxwell entered the kitchen proper, Maxwell carrying the bag of all of Mehar’s things. Both omegas looked tired, bone-deep, and their alphas stepped in immediately.
Andrew pulled Maxwell close, pressing a soft kiss to his forehead as he did so.
"Why don’t you say your goodbyes now, Angel? Head on up to bed and I’ll tuck you in after. It’s just your brother at this point, and Amir will understand." Andrew told him. Ben scoffed.
"What about Mehar? She might not understand." Ben protested, already taking the car seat from his mate, his arm around Amir’s shoulder. Amir chuckled.
"She got to say goodbye to her Uncle Maxy already. She understands. You’ve had a long month since the wedding, go get some rest, Maxy. Thanks for dinner, Andy. We’ll chat and hang out again soon." Amir promised, his eyes tired but kind. "I’m exhausted too. Growing this little one is taking a lot out of me." Amir joked, placing a hand on his stomach. Maxwell watched the action, staring at it for a second too long before he let out his own sigh.
"Yeah. The last month has been full of them asking for damn meeting after meeting. We’re not getting acquired or anything ridiculous like that, but the supplier issue really shook everyone up." Maxwell muttered, shaking his head. "Damn it. Alright. Goodnight you two." Maxwell bid them goodnight and then was on his way up the stairs, looking tired and worn out. Ben was smirking as they left while Andrew felt his heart race in his chest.
