Chapter 246: The Last Duel (1)

All of Class S had finished their duels, except for Vania and Mona.

Even so, the back field was still packed with students, curious to see if anyone could possibly defeat the two of them.

Both girls looked completely exhausted. It was only natural after fighting that hard. But at the same time, it showed that Class S students were on another level entirely.

Some of the onlookers whispered that this must be the result of Professor Langga’s training, and their excitement only grew.

More and more students wanted to join Class S, just to be taught by him directly.

Vania finally stepped into her last duel of the day. Her face was blank— part fatigue, part sheer frustration.

Meanwhile, the first-year students from Class A were loudly cheering for her opponent. Of course, that didn’t escape Miki’s sharp eyes.

"Her opponent’s one of the top students in Class A—ranked fourth during the entrance test," Miki explained. "He’s had a grudge against Vania for a while now. Rumor says he’s been waiting for this day and preparing for it ever since."

"The last match... and also the toughest. Honestly, Vania deserves it, after all her attitude," Andine commented with zero sympathy.

"You think she can still win in her condition?" Miki asked.

"If she uses her Talent —and manages to control it properly— she’s got a chance." The unexpected answer came from Revan.

"I don’t think Professor Langga would only train her to fight without using her Talent," Jett added. "He must’ve also taught her how to control it."

"If that’s true, then based on how much her raw attack has improved, she might actually pull it off," Lysa said, joining in.

This match wasn’t just about whether Vania could stay in Class S for the next two months or if they’d be getting a new member.

It was also about whether Langga really was as incredible as everyone claimed him to be.

Because of that, the Class S students watched this duel with far more focus than any before it.

Inside the arena, Vania was clearly struggling. Her opponent came from the Lionfolk Clan —one of the elite clans— and had a trait almost identical to hers.

The difference was, he was free to use his Talent.

His lion-like hair grew longer, moving as if alive, trying to trap her in its grasp.

Vania narrowly dodged several times, her movements growing more desperate. She knew if she got caught even once, it was over.

"Tiger girl," the Lion boy said, serious and confident, "that Class S spot belongs to me. Don’t make things harder for yourself. You might as well give up now, before you lose in a way you’ll regret."

Even Vania had to admit, part of her agreed. He wasn’t wrong.

But then she remembered, she couldn’t lose. No matter what.

"The Tiger Clan may be strong," he continued, "but the Lion Clan rules over them. You should learn to bow to me. After all, I’m simply stronger than you."

Vania scoffed at his words.

In the Shereen Family, children from the main family had always claimed they were better than her. Until the day she awakened her Talent.

After that, they shut their mouths and lowered their heads before her.

And now, hearing this arrogant lion talk down to her, she felt only one thing— 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

the urge to make him kneel before her.

Gritting her teeth, Vania pressed her hand against the ground. Slowly, a black hole began to swirl open beneath her, and from its depths, a tiger emerged.

She had no other choice. If she wanted to win, she had to use her Talent.

At first, people praised her for it. But soon, that very same Talent became the reason everyone mocked her.

They all said the same thing with absolute certainty, that she’d be expelled from Class S. That she’d be kicked out of the academy.

Even Rucian, the experienced assistant professor, had said so.

But her main advisor —the one person she thought would be glad to see her gone after she once spread a false rumor about him—

he didn’t give up on her.

He had told her once, "You’re gifted, and you’re strong. You just need training... and patience."

And that’s exactly what she’d been doing. As long as there was still one person who hadn’t given up on her, she refused to listen to the rest. Even Rucian’s words meant nothing now.

"You’re really using that unstable Talent of yours?" the lion boy muttered, frowning.

He knew how powerful her ability was, but also how dangerous. The last time she used it, she nearly died.

"You really don’t care about your own life, do you?" he murmured.

"This duel decides whether I live or die," Vania said firmly, eyes filled with resolve.

The lion boy sighed and shook his head. "Fine. If that’s what you want."

The battle inside the arena grew more intense as three more tigers joined the fray.

Students from the Offense class exchanged uneasy looks, while several Class S students frowned.

"Did Professor Langga really train her to control that Talent?" Miki asked, not to anyone in particular.

No one answered. None of them were sure.

In truth, after Vania opened the black hole, all she did was try to close it again. She didn’t care what the tigers were doing or what was happening to her opponent.

Her focus was entirely on sealing the black hole.

But her stamina was draining fast.

Her opponent looked desperate, struggling to hold on, and at first glance, it seemed like Vania had the upper hand.

Yet, she was suffering even more. Sweat streamed down her face even though she hadn’t moved from her spot.

The referee at the edge of the arena watched closely, ready to intervene if things went wrong.

Everyone knew Vania couldn’t control her tigers and once her Talent was unleashed, she couldn’t stop it.

Minutes passed. The lion boy was covered in cuts and blood, his strength fading. Finally, he raised his hand in surrender.
