Chapter 135: Alone

Hiroshi looking at Haruki who had begun eating the grapes on his own frowned and leaned closer to Haruki until their bodies pressed together sharing warmth.

He wrapped his arms around Haruki’s waist and pressed his face on Haruki’s bare neck. He inhaled deeply, it was the scent of Haruki’s skin gentle with a hint of the spice from his perfume.

He had become unreserved in his clinginess since Haruki usually lets him do whatever he wants most of the time unless he is busy. He thought of how he would have to stay without Haruki, without this warmth, without his signature scent.

He smiled sadly remembering that Haruki wanted to renew the contract. It was something that had his heart racing, but Haruki’s words when he was about to leave made him unable to fully get engrossed in the joy of knowing he would be with Haruki for longer.

It was still a contractual relationship but he was the first lover getting a renewed contract. He tried to encourage himself that Haruki had the contract put in place to protect himself and to ensure privacy and discretion.

It was something he did not have to worry about but he could not stop that part of himself that wanted a normal open relationship with Haruki. One without a contract binding them. One with trust and love as its foundation not the law and lawyers.

He pressed his lips against Haruki’s warm neck and giving in to the impulse urge he got that moment, he bit into the skin. It was a light bite but he felt Haruki stiffen before relaxing as though it was a normal thing for him to experience.

"You taste good," Hiroshi teased when he pulled away. "Remind me to leave something on you before you leave."

Haruki moved away and tilted his head. Why was the doctor saying things he might have said? It was as though his words were getting stolen from his lips. He shook his head and pushed the man away from his body before he rose up from the sofa.

Hiroshi didn’t let the man escape. They were about to be apart for days something they have not done since he returned to the country yet Haruki was staying away from him? When he was about to be lonely.

This was not something he was about to let happen. The anxiety about losing Haruki when the contract is over was gone since Haruki had made it clear that they would renew their contract. Being a man of his word, Hiroshi knew he could trust Haruki’s words despite the nagging feeling he felt.

He could go overboard with how truly clingy he wanted to be. He had nothing to be cautious about. Even if Haruki felt overwhelmed by it, they would still renew their contract, and he would still get to be with Haruki for the next six months after the renewal.

When his arms wrapped around Haruki’s waist, Haruki stopped and sighed. "I want to go to the bathroom. Do you want to follow me?" Haruki sounded tired as though he was dealing with a kid with separation anxiety.

It was Hiroshi’s turn to sigh. He wanted to go all in but he knew there was a limit to everything. He shouldn’t make Haruki not want to return when he leaves.

He felt the urge to ask Haruki if he would be able to live without him when he leaves but he pressed his lips together and released Haruki’s waist. Haruki shook his head with a soft chuckle as he left the living room.

Hiroshi dropped on the sofa unable to hold back the smile that lifted the corners of his lips. Warmth filled his heart. He wouldn’t mind trading half of his life to enjoy moments like this from Haruki. It was pleasant, too pleasant for him to imagine a life without it.

He wanted to be a part of Haruki’s life. He could not confidently say Haruki would be unable to live without him if they split even after the next contract period is over. He hoped that Haruki would miss him when he left.

Perhaps the distance will be able to solidify their relationship enough for the contract to get tossed to the side. He could only hope that it would draw Haruki closer to him rather than splitting them apart as he feared.

When Haruki returned he was still immersed in his thoughts to notice his arrival. Haruki touched his cheeks and his attention moved to the man before him.

His heart raced as he scanned the beautiful face so close to him. ’I love you’. These words were so close to escaping from his lips. He wanted Haruki to hear these words the more he stared at the face of the man whose presence made him feel like he owned the world.

"What?" Haruki who could see the words in the man’s brown eyes asked as he rubbed his thumb against the man’s jaw.

His heart pounded hard in his chest for fear that the man would voice those words out but there was also that anticipation to hear those words hidden so deep like a taboo.

"I am going to miss you," Hiroshi said touching Haruki’s hand in the warmth of his palm.

Haruki although denying his disappointment of not hearing the words he was certain those warm eyes held, knew the words the man said held those words interwoven in the tone and the words he said.

"I can allow you to stay by mind side if you want, you just have to be good," Haruki muttered so low that even with how close their distance was, Hiroshi could barely hear what he said.

"I will miss you too," Haruki assured the man before Hiroshi could ask him when he had said.

Knowing Haruki didn’t want him to hear although he did hear most of what was said, he didn’t ask but smiled at the response Haruki wanted him to hear.

"It’s getting late, we should go to bed," Haruki moved away and said. Hiroshi had no reason to object. Going to bed meant an infinite coddle time with Haruki as there was no way he would let the man sleep away from him.

***

Hiroshi wanted so badly to drop Haruki off at the airport to spend more time with him before the man left but he had a surgery scheduled later and that was not something he could reschedule or have someone else cover for him.

He looked reluctant to leave making Haruki smile fondly and kiss his lips before he parted. When he got back from work, he was certain Haruki had arrived so he could only wait patiently for his call.

Haruki must have been busy because he didn’t call him until lunch the next day. As soon as his phone vibrated, a broad smile brightened his face as he rose up.

Eyes were on him as he picked up the call and headed out of the cafeteria. His junior could only shake his head. Hiroshi had been focused while working or spacing out when not busy. Seeing him brighten up that way over a phone call, made him able to join the dots together.

It was common knowledge since the audio was leaked that Hiroshi was in a relationship with Haruki even when Haruki ensured the articles and social media posts about Hiroshi were brought down, those who worked with Hiroshi could easily recognise his voice in the video.

It would have been a more serious issue if Haruki were openly involved with the Yakuza world. A Yakuza doctor did not sound like the type of title any ambitious doctor would be proud to have.

Although many people knew even by birthright, that Haruki was involved with the Yakuza world, they could not bring forward any evidence and although it would be a win on the government’s part to have him fall, there was a gift his grandfather left for him in his will that made them hesitant towards him.

Hiroshi closed his eyes his back pressed against the rapidly warming wall. There was something completely satisfying and perfect about hearing Haruki’s voice over the phone.

So long, he had missed the man so much. Last night was the hardest. He didn’t even bother cooking dinner aside from the noodles he had to make in the middle of the night when he could not sleep and he was hungry.

"I miss you so much," he whispered. His voice thick with emotion sounded more like a frustrated pained groan than a statement. His free hand rose to touch the spot Haruki had bitten into to leave a mark on him just like he did to Haruki.

Haruki smiled and shook his head on the other end. "I miss you too."

"How’s the preparation going?" Hiroshi asked remembering Haruki travelled for work.

"Well, I have to meet with some people later today in preparation for the launch."

"Hope you get some time to rest too," Hiroshi worried about Haruki’s had to remind him.

"You don’t have to nag. I know what’s necessary," Haruki scolded with an affectionate tone.

Hiroshi was glad Haruki was not too stressed from the sound of his voice. Thinking about all Haruki had to experience in such a short period, the doctor was worried, but Haruki’s playful tone made him a bit relieved.

He made a mental note to call to hasten the investigation of the scandal.
