Chapter 74: His refusal

Kiyoshi removed the contract from the file and gave it to Haruki. Haruki skimmed through it before nodding in satisfaction, then pushed it towards the doctor, who had sat down.

Hiroshi reached for it obediently after Kiyoshi placed a pen beside the contract. He took his time reading through everything, and his face only got darker with every word he read.

It was evident Haruki hated cheating from the words written. The punishment for sleeping with Haruki after he had been intimate with someone else was almost a matter of losing one’s lifeline.

The penalty was all too cruel. He did not want to ever see those words again, and that was not because he wanted to cheat, but after what happened today, how could he afford to sign such a contract?

It was not certain that Haruki would take the time to investigate the case before he gets kicked out of Haruki’s life completely, from the hospital and even from the country.

Haruki was okay with the man being in love with someone else as long as he was willing to tell him he had found someone else and couldn’t go on with the relationship, but it pained the doctor that Haruki had no idea that he didn’t want to be with anyone else in this lifetime.

All the benefits of being loved were that he could ask for something he wanted and get it as long as it was not a ridiculous request or worth more than a hundred million.

These benefits were nothing to him. He did not want Haruki’s money; his father’s hospital was already enjoying enough of Haruki’s support and money, what he wanted was something beyond material.

Hiroshi pushed the contract away towards Haruki, his brown eyes turning significantly cold as he said firmly, "I won’t sign it."

Haruki’s eyes widened from what he read. he was certain that all his past lovers’ worlds had reached for it and grabbed it tightly, regardless of their social status, but the man refused.

"Then leave," Haruki’s voice came just as cold as the gaze of the doctor he met. "I have no intention of adding any more benefits."

The doctor was shocked this time as he glanced at the contract and back again at Haruki. Why would Haruki speak of the benefits at a time when the doctor had not bothered about taking anything from Haruki, as he lacked nothing as long as his life went on as usual?

He did not want to leave either. How would he live without Haruki? His life was once full of all his daily routines, but with Haruki, everything changed to the point that he could not imagine living without Haruki.

"I don’t like the conditions," Hiroshi finally said something after a few minutes that felt like an hour. He wanted to say something, anything that would keep him from having to leave that room, fearing that would be the last time he got the chance to be so close to Haruki.

Haruki raised his head and met the man’s gaze coldly as he asked, "What condition do you speak of?"

"Everything. I don’t want to be bound by a contract," the doctor tried to speak submissively, hoping it would remind Haruki of the time they spent together and the experiences they shared.

Haruki’s gaze softened notably, but he was not backing off even with the softness of his tone as he said, "You don’t have to think too deeply, this is what everyone else has signed. There’s nothing special about it, it’s just formality."

Hiroshi tried to remain calm even after his plan didn’t work. He stood up from where he sat and sat closer to Haruki as he reminded him, "We agreed that you won’t make me sign any sort of agreement?"

Haruki paused thoughtfully as though he was trying to remember when he said such a thing. After a few seconds, he nodded his head as though remembering. "That doesn’t count. I will feel at ease if you sign one."

Hiroshi didn’t feel like signing the contract, and he had no intention of giving in to Haruki’s request. This was the first time he could feel his stubbornness getting serious against what Haruki wanted.

His submissiveness disappeared instantly as his brown eyes got cold. He did not want to caution himself anymore as he needed any means to avoid signing the contract.

That contract wanted him to leave Haruki as soon as he noticed he was beginning to grow feelings for Haruki, and for so long, he has had a strong love for Haruki; how could he step away from the man he was willing to die for simply because of a contract? Then he wouldn’t sign the contract.

He had so many crazy thoughts on how to escape signing the contract that would affirm that he presently had no love for Haruki beyond what was physical between them.

He was willing to try every one of those ways suggested by his thoughts until one of them worked out, regardless of how crazy they were.

"You made me desire even when you knew I wasn’t gay, and I am your doctor, not a stranger. Yet you treat me worse than one. I refuse to sign the agreement, and you have to take responsibility for me. I think I deserve it."

All the words poured out of his lips as they came to his mind. This worked last time, and by luck, it could work this time around, although the firmness in his tone as he said it this time was more as if he had begged the first time he used such a method.

Haruki, hearing this, furrowed his brow. He remembered when the doctor said something similar to this. It was the day he was dumb enough to show a bit of weakness.

It felt as though the doctor knew how to get him weak and had chosen to use this method, it had an adverse effect on his thoughts. It made him enraged. He rose and turned to Kiyoshi before gesturing for him to come closer from where he stood away from the two of them, as though trying to make himself invisible.

"Give me all the gifts you prepared for him. Take him to that room and get a perfect sex partner for him," he ordered as he walked to the bedroom.

Horror seized Hiroshi’s entire being. This was not the reaction he expected. What were those words that sounded colder than a death sentence to him?

He stood up and blocked Haruki’s part, his entire being trembling from within, but he fought against letting it show. Did Haruki dare abandon him in such a manner?

No, this was something he could not bring himself to imagine this way, no, how could he afford getting abandoned by the man he was in love with before he got the chance to confess?

Haruki’s beauty seemed even more radiant in the moment when he lost himself completely.

He took in a deep breath and spoke calmly, although the cracks in his voice were difficult for him to hide, "It is all your fault, you came into my life, you tempted me, and you ruined my life. You have made into a fool, you stole my sanity, I was never like this before I met you. You have to take responsibility."

He meant every word he said. If Haruki hadn’t approached him first, even with the love at first sight, he would have leaned back and said nothing.

He would have avoided Haruki completely, and maybe he would have forgotten the feeling he had without a fuel to keep it burning.

However, Haruki made the first move, confirming that he stood a chance to be with the man, the way his brain turned to mush by love. It had gotten so intense that his father suggested he see a psychologist.

Haruki looked at the doctor, whose face turned a darker shade as he wondered whose life was destroyed. He felt it was his life that was disrupted since the doctor stepped into his life.

The doctor got into his dreams, the only escape he had, and stole them away from him. Even when he was injured, it was the man’s gentle voice he heard, and he could not live the life he wished he was living with his parents.

That was the first, and many he was unwilling to admit, followed afterwards. The fact that he refused to accept their existence did not mean he did not know they existed.

How dare the man speak to him in such a manner? How dare he act all great and mighty?

"Who do you think you are?" Haruki’s cold voice cut through the doctor’s thoughts, making him drop his firm gaze.

Hiroshi parted his lips to speak, but he could not respond with the answer he knew in his heart; he was nothing.

"What responsibility? Don’t make me laugh," Haruki continued, his voice emotionless. "A doctor isn’t hard to find. I don’t care about you, I never did. It will take me nothing to completely uproot your family from my hospital and put someone else."
