(BL) Mafia Love; He who falls the hardest loses-Chapter 75: Birthday 3
Chapter 75: Birthday 3
Hiroshi remembered what Haruki said that night, causing him to bow his head for a few seconds. He contemplated whether to speak of it or to keep quiet, but his curiosity got the best of him.
"Would you?" Hiroshi asked for confirmation of Haruki’s words.
Haruki was not expecting him to ask, but since he did, he met the man’s gaze firmly and nodded, "Yes,, in a second, I can."
"There’s nothing that can stop you, right? What about Aki? Will you spare my family because of Aki?"
Haruki’s obsidian eyes widened at that question before he pressed his lips together. The doctor hasn’t done anything deserving of what he threatened, and he had no intention of doing any of that because he had just said it in a fit of rage.
If their family truly did something against the contract they signed with his great-grandfather, then he would have to end their cooperation, but if Aki steps in to beg him, would he forgive them?
That was a thought he had never had a reason to think about, but with the thought now on his mind, he knew he would forgive them, maybe not by completely eliminating their crimes, but he would lighten the punishment and not completely cut them off from working for him.
He might not be able to continuously forgive them, but for old time’s sake, he will ignore it the first time, so he said, "Yes, I will."
Aki was the only friend he had in high school. They were both weak and bullied regardless of who their parents were; after all, Aki’s father was the head of such a prestigious hospital, and yet he was bullied just like the weak orphaned Haruki.
They shared pain, laughter and fun. They stood by each other in everything they faced in school. They were each other’s support. Why would he be cruel to the only person who truly saw him as a friend before he had anything?
Hiroshi watched every expression Haruki wore, and he knew very well that he didn’t stand any chance against Aki. Because of him, Haruki was willing to destroy his family, but because of Aki, Haruki was willing to overlook their offence.
Hiroshi looked down at his hands, his shoulders curving in as he was unable to be confident enough to raise his gaze or maintain the usual warmth in his eyes.
"I am such a fool," Hiroshi mumbled under his breath. He tried to lift up his head and meet Haruki’s gaze, but his body rejected the command of his brain.
His heart ached so much, yet he so desperately longed for Haruki’s love. He wanted him in his life. He wanted to stand by Haruki’s side in the open or in the secret; none of it mattered as long as Haruki kept him by his side.
He did not want to get abandoned; he did not want a fruitless,, unrequited love. He did not want a love where he could not confess. But he wanted Haruki; he had lost his mind in love with the man.
He looked down at the contract on the table, pressed his lips together, and walked over to the table and signed it. His heart raced as the pen slid over the paper, but he could not raise his head to look at the man.
When Hiroshi was done signing the paper, he remained frozen in that position with his hand holding the pen. The other men in the room also remained frozen in their positions, saying nothing but watching Hiroshi intently.
The paper before Hiroshi became blurry the harder he stared at the paper until he finally blinked. He slowly lifted his head and calmly met Haruki’s gaze.
"I signed it. I should have done that from the beginning," he said in a light tone as he smiled slightly without his dimple showing.
The rage in Haruki’s heart was completely extinguished by simply watching Hiroshi sign the contract. But he had no idea how to react to the man’s words.
He seemed to have known how to react if the man followed his order and left, but the man had taken a step back and signed the contract instead in such a carefree manner as though they had just exchanged angry words only a few minutes ago.
He tried to assure himself that there was nothing sarcastic about the tone with which the man spoke. His heart felt relaxed, although there was a nagging feeling he tried hard to ignore, an aftermath of their verbal altercation.
As he watched Hiroshi rise from where he sat, he wanted so badly to walk over to him and pull him into his arms in a tight embrace. He wanted to thank Hiroshi for choosing the way that made it easiest for him to handle what was going on between them.
Haruki knew if the man left, he would find another lover, but none of his past lovers were as good as Hiroshi in every aspect. Every one of them was either in the entertainment world or preparing to enter the entertainment world, but none of them looked as handsome as the man before him.
Their relationship was not an ambiguous state, which was something Haruki preferred not to have, but theirs has become a contracted relationship bound by the words on the paper.
It was assuring, it made him feel at ease in more ways than he was willing to admit, although that did not mean he completely ignored that nagging voice that reminded him of a certain part of the contract.
The man had just signed that he had no feelings for Haruki and that he would leave if he began to develop any more feelings beyond the desire that bonded them together.
Haruki reminded himself that a relationship beyond physical intimacy was not something he was willing to afford with a sex partner, and he could consider that when he decides to start a family.
The voice of his conscience, judging him against the unfeeling words he made the doctor sign, was forced to silence by Haruki’s unmoving determination to keep all deep intimacy for his wife.
He had a strong feeling of satisfaction from the fact that he owned him. Hiroshi was his from the moment he signed the contract, and he had no need to worry about any unnecessary rivalry as long as the doctor didn’t tell him he wanted to call quits over falling in love with someone else.
Haruki walked over to the doctor and stretched his hand over to him, wearing a gentle smile as though reflecting the smile the doctor wore.
Hiroshi took his hand for a handshake, and his smile only deepened. This time, his dimples showed, and his eyes that held no emotions finally showed some warmth.
Haruki decided to go with the plans they had made for the day. They went to dinner downstairs together.
Haruki appeared to forget everything that happened between them. He seemed to hold no grudges toward the words the man spoke that had enraged him at first.
Haruki truly did not bother to remember the words Hiroshi spoke to him; it only gave him an assurance that he was in control of the man, and he might, if not overthinking, also own the man emotionally.
They ate their meal quietly and returned to the room Haruki had prepared for the doctor’s birthday. When the doctor walked in, he paused and turned to Haruki, a bit surprised by the fact that the man had prepared something of this sort for him.
"I had it prepared after I got your message," Haruki proudly informed the man as though trying to steal some points from the doctor.
Haruki might have truly won some points because the doctor was impressed by it. He thought it was only because he signed the contract, Haruki chose to celebrate his birthday in such a manner, but Haruki had prepared it all before he went to see him in the hospital, and what he witnessed had to be what led to the argument they had.
It could have ended very badly, but the fact that he got out of the situation a bit lucky was enough for him.
It had to go beyond Haruki’s germaphobia. Something else must have led him to get that angry, and it was enough that the man was willing to accept his signed contract, and for that acceptance, he reminded himself to be as grateful as he could be.
"Thank you," he turned to Haruki to appreciate wearing a smile that could boy get to his eyes with the thoughts he had on his mind.
"My pleasure," Haruki responded as he walked into the room. The suite was designed with balloons giving birthday wishes, with a birthday cake, he reminded them to take it to the room while they ate dinner. He picked a bouquet from the table and pushed it into Hiroshi’s hand.
"I am glad I signed the contract," Hiroshi sighed under his breath.
