Chapter 78: His truth

"No, not here," he refused, stopping the doctor’s exploring hands.

Hiroshi leaned away from Haruki and asked, "Why?"

"Not here, in the room."

"It’s my birthday, I get to ask, right? I want it here," Hiroshi demanded as his fingers unbuckled Haruki’s belt.

"That’s why we shouldn’t do it here," Haruki reminded him.

Hiroshi could understand what the man wanted, but since it was for him, he didn’t want to give in to Haruki’s request; after all, that was what he wanted, despite it being his birthday. freewebnøvel_com

What he wanted to happen would make the birthday gift even more special since they will share deep memories in the car on his birthday.

He sat down beside Haruki and held the back of his neck, turning the man’s head to face him properly before kissing Haruki’s lips with his.

It was a gentle kiss with only their lips pressed together without deepening the kiss. When he pulled away, he rubbed Haruki’s lips with his fingers, holding his gaze. "I want this for my birthday," he said coquettishly but with a hint of firmness as though he had no intention to back down.

Haruki nodded as he slowly parted his lips, giving the man’s finger access to the wet warmth of his mouth.

Hiroshi was back to work the next day, active with a gentle smile on his lips, exposing his hidden dimple and the warmth in his brown eyes intensified.

It was difficult for anyone familiar with him not to notice the change in his demeanour, especially compared to the blank, sad look he wore a few days before his birthday and on his birthday.

His father was one of the many who noticed this sudden change. The man who looked as though he needed therapy was back to work the next day after leaving Haruki, and he was smiling brightly.

Dr. Yamamoto was an old man already, and he had seen so many things in his lifetime, coming to a conclusion of what might have caused his son such joy was not very difficult for him, but he was unwilling to accept it.

He was even more scared of asking Hiroshi what was going on because he knew for certain what the answer would be if Hiroshi wanted to be honest with him.

Since yesterday evening, the image of Miyoko’s disappointed and sad face had been imprinted on his mind. Miyoko was a name he had had a few times among the young, promising doctors in the country.

He had not met her on one before yesterday, but he knew her name was always mentioned alongside his son’s name when a list of genius young doctors is made.

She was the perfect candidate for his daughter-in-law. She had the academic and intellectual necessity, even exceeding his expectations for a daughter-in-law.

She had accomplished a lot in her field, and if his son could marry her into his family, then that would be a perfect plus since she came from an equally prestigious family.

Soon she would become a professor, and her title close to her name, as well as his son’s title close to his name, seemed to be the most perfect match anyone can imagine.

Yet, Hiroshi had left a woman as beautiful and as intelligent as she was to go after Haruki. He tried to tell himself that perhaps Hiroshi had something he wanted to discuss with Haruki as he stood behind the door of Hiroshi’s office.

He finally knocked on the door, and before Hiroshi could answer, he pushed the door open and walked into the office. Hiroshi was sitting behind his desk, looking ready to continue the day’s work after his lunch break.

"Good afternoon, Father," Hiroshi rose up to greet his father when he saw who had walked into his office.

"Good afternoon," his father tried to respond naturally, but his response came a bit stiff and forced.

Hiroshi could guess his father wanted to discuss something serious with him, so he sat down gently and obediently waited for whatever the father had planned to say to him.

Dr. Yamamoto also sat down, his face frozen in a frown. "Where were you last night?" His father asked him after clearing his throat.

Hiroshi finally knew what the serious discussion was about. He relaxed a bit as he rose up from the seat again and asked his father very calmly, "Father, have you eaten lunch?"

"Yes, I asked you an important question."

"Father, I am no longer young. My younger brother is already married in a faraway country. If I were where he is, would you ask me such questions?" He asked his father in a very respectful tone.

"I wouldn’t after all, he isn’t trying to get himself killed, and he won’t be taking over the hospital from me," Dr. Yamamoto responded sternly, unable to keep trying to put on the facade of an understanding father.

"I am not trying to get myself killed, and you asked me to take over the hospital; this wasn’t my personal desire but yours," Hiroshi was forced to remind his father, unable to hold back anymore.

"Being in a relationship with your boss is not a way to get yourself killed?" Dr. Yamamoto asked as he tried to keep his voice low by talking between clenched teeth.

"I am just one of his many lovers. I signed a contract like all of them and will stop playing this role in six months, like his other lovers," Hiroshi chose the contract as an excuse to put his father’s heart at ease.

"What do you gain by getting involved in such a messy relationship with your boss?" His father asked, unable to understand his son’s line of thought.

"See this, Haruki bought it for me as a birthday gift. He was the only one who thought it nice to give me something on my birthday for the past two decades," Hiroshi pushed back his sleeves to show his father the wrist watch Haruki bought that he wore.

"We lack nothing, I would buy you anything, just leave that mess you’ve gotten yourself into," his father demanded firmly, although it was obvious that the man had tried but failed at trying to be nice when he spoke to Hiroshi.

"I will leave, you don’t have to worry. It’s nothing but a contract relationship," Hiroshi calmly told his father after glancing at the clock.

Miyoko sent him a message that they should meet, and he wanted to tell her bluntly what was going on between him and Haruki and his desire for her to step back from his life.

Lunch break would soon be over, and he was almost certain that Miyoko was already waiting for him downstairs, considering when she sent the message and the distance between their workplaces.

"You’re not... not gay," his father tried to say a firm sentence to awaken his son, but he ended up sounding unsure.

"Yes, I am not. Consider me to be an asexual man whose only object of sexual attraction is Haruki," Hiroshi said.

He had not really put to words what his sexual orientation was, even after being with Haruki. Repeating the words he had just said over and over in his mind only made him smile.

Yes, he was a man who could be with only one person in his time, and regardless of what Haruki’s gender was, he would still have fallen in love with him and fought to stay with him even if he were a woman.

Haruki was simply his chosen life partner for this lifetime, regardless of any other external factors.

His father looked a bit defeated by his words as he rose up, looking into Hiroshi’s eyes the way he had always thought Hiroshi to be, and all he could see was truthfulness and sincerity. His son was not lying, and it showed in his light brown eyes. He sighed and walked out of the office.

Hiroshi sighed heavily, feeling a bit of guilt towards the burden he could see physically that he had placed on his father’s shoulder with his words.

His father’s health was not as good as it used to be in the past and he wished he could have kept it hidden from his father for as long as he could but since it was obvious his father knew for sure there was something wrong, rather than obviously lying to his father, he chose to be honest.

He could not hold back another sigh as he finally got to where Miyoko sat at the entryway.

He sat beside her after greeting her. She removed a small box from her bag and pushed it towards him on the bench.

Hiroshi did not reach for the gift as he raised his eyes from it to look at her.

"I know you still like me, but we agreed to be friends alone. I can not take any gift from you since you broke my trust as a friend. We can’t be friends anymore," he told her firmly.

"That’s why I want you to marry me," she said, leaning to push the small box even closer to him until it touched his thigh.
