Lady Elysia Conner looked at herself in the mirror with a beaming smile on her face. Her eyes shined and her flushed cheeks made her look even more beautiful than she usually did.

Her green hair and orange eyes stood out a lot more today compared to other times.

But the most important feature she had today was the mark on her wrist. It was beautiful and black, but most importantly, it was what was going to change her life.

It was a mark that had appeared on her out of nowhere and she had no idea what it was. But then, information began to flow inside her mind and she suddenly realized that she had been chosen.

Finally, after all of her time devoting herself to her god, he had finally listened to her and given her an opportunity to obtain what she wanted-his love.

"I am the emperor’s true companion. I cannot believe I have this honor...I managed to change my fate after all..."

She spoke softly as she looked at her wrist with a loving expression. This was her ticket to a new life.

Elysia covered her mark with her silk glove and decided to finally head out. Her father waited for her in the rented carriage with a nervous expression on his face.

"Are you sure you want to come with me, Elysia?"

He asked and his daughter nodded.

"Of course. It has to be today, father. I promise you that I will behave. I just want a way to meet Lord Liam and be able to convince him that we make a perfect match."

She told her father and he sighed. He wondered if he had made a mistake or not.

Elysia was not someone who fell in love with things easily, and she was not obsessive either (except when it came to her god). So seeing her so desperate to get to Lord Liam was a little concerning.

But he took her to the imperial castle anyway and they parted ways.

Lady Elysia waited for her father to leave her alone before she headed toward Emperor Kaiden’s office.

The guards stopped her immediately, but this time, she had a weapon they could not ignore.

"Go and get Emperor Kaiden right now. Tell him that his ’real companion’ has appeared."

She told the guard and he just scoffed at her at first. But her mark did look like the one Shuu had on his neck.

In the end, the guard decided that there was nothing he could do alone, so he had to get the Emperor.

Everyone inside the room looked at the panting guard with a shocked expression on their face. But no one was more shocked than Princess Danielle.

"What did you say? I don’t believe it. I need to verify this with my own eyes. Emperor Kaiden..."

She turned to look at the Emperor who did not look shocked, nor did he look eager. He was currently looking at Shuu with a completely smitten face, not even bothering to pay attention to what was happening.

Princess Danielle gritted her teeth before she looked at Shuu for help.

Unlike the Emperor, Shuu had gone still and he had just yet to say anything. But he was the only one she could count on at the moment so she coughed to alert him. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Companion Shuu-"

She asked and Shuu flinched at her voice. He blinked and looked at her with a weird expression on his face.

"I...would like to see what this is all about as well."

Shuu replied in the same numb expression. Anyone could tell that something was wrong with him and Princess Danielle felt the air thickening around her.

All her instincts told her to drop this topic if she knew what was good for herself. But she had to stay firm if she wanted to get her job done.

"Alright. If you want to see what is going on, then we can check it out."

Emperor Kaiden agreed and he tried to grab Shuu to lead him out. But Shuu shook that touch and walked away.

Everyone flinched as they watched it happen. No one was happy or knew what to do and they exchanged a look of terror and shock.

’Oh no-! Emperor Kaiden...he is going to kill us all if Companion Shuu’s mood does not get better. We better be on our best behavior.’

Everyone agreed as one and they followed after the Emperor.

Silence greeted them all and the Emperor finally opened the set of doors that separated him from Lady Elysia.

"Emperor Kaiden, you are here-"

As soon as the door opened, Elysia ran toward the Emperor and opened her arms to wrap them around him.

But Shuu stood in front of the Emperor and gave Elysia a blank look which made her pause.

"Excuse me, but what are you doing?"

Elysia asked in a low voice. Her eyes flashed as they looked at Shuu and her voice was cold and annoyed as well.

She kept looking behind him at the emperor, wondering if he would help her out or not. But Emperor Kaiden kept himself standing still and looking at Shuu’s back.

He was not even paying her any attention which made her a little confused and a lot more enraged.

"What is the meaning of all this? I am your companion now. Look at this proof. Ex-companion Shuu, please step out of my way now."

Lady Elysia demanded in a clear voice but Shuu did not step aside. Tension escalated in the air and finally, Princess Danielle tried to take charge.

"Lady Elysia, are you sure your mark is real?"

She asked and the lady in question scoffed.

"Of course. If you don’t believe me, then you can get it checked at the temple. I am the real companion..."

"But that’s impossible. The real companion from the new prophecy has already been found and confirmed by my father. Are you trying to trick the royal family?"
