Blood Nemesis-Chapter 228: Changes 1
The flaky white powder was covering his entire body.
"Dust!" Oliver raised an eyebrow as he rubbed his fingers together.
The powder had a smooth consistency.
He slowly brought his hand to his nose to smell.
"No weird odour or anything. What is this?" He absent-mindedly thought.
Although he woke from a long sleep, Oliver still felt a little lethargic. His energy levels, for some reason, remained low even after the sleep.
Suddenly, Oliver, who was rubbing the dust covering his body, froze.
A thought as to what the dust might be invaded his mind.
"Don't tell me…this is my skin that has flaked off!"
"How long was I sleeping?"
Oliver was confused.
If a person doesn't bathe for a few days, the skin will flake off. But what happened to him seems to be on the extreme side.
Unless he were sleeping for a month, he wouldn't have accumulated that much flaky skin on him.
"What is happening?"
Oliver rubbed his throbbing head and stood up from the bed.
When he took a closer look, he could see the entire bed covered in a thick layer of dust.
He was wearing simple shorts, so he could also see the layers of flaky dust sticking to his body.
"There is something seriously wrong about this."
Oliver's hand, which was rubbing his head accidentally, pulled hard on his hair. This resulted in a clump of hair separating from his head painlessly.
Oliver, noticing it, slowly brought the hair down to his eye level.
"Am I going bald…now…why?"
He wondered aloud, dashing towards the nearest mirror.
When he stood in front of the mirror attached to the nearby cupboard, he saw something which scared him.
Oliver looked like a pale white ghost covered in dust. A portion of hair from his front was missing, and his eyes looked sunken and lifeless.
Even his muscular body looked a little thinner than it was yesterday.
'What the hell is happening?'
Oliver panicked.
What was happening was beyond his comprehension.
In a moment of desperation, he rubbed his head harder, thinking it might have been a mistake. But lumps of lifeless black hair continued to fall, until a smooth, shiny head remained.
'This is for real…'
Finally, Oliver accepted reality.
Resigned to fate, he slowly sat on the ground.
The mysterious phenomenon of skin flaking off, muscular degeneration and balding seemed to have taken a toll on him.
"I lived a life before. And yet, this is the first time I went bald."
"Something must have happened while I was sleeping."
After the initial shock, he began to return to his original self quickly.
Although the physical changes are mysterious, Oliver believed there must exist some explanation for what had happened to him.
So, without further ado, he began to replay the events of yesterday in his mind.
Exactly, what happened before he went to sleep?
'I woke up after talking with the golden dragon. Supposedly, I had slept for about eight hours at that time.'
'After waking up, I returned home.'
'Scared the life out of Yuna and squinted my eyes at the Kim family idiots.'
'Then, I went back to sleep.'
'I went back to sleep?' Oliver repeated the words, squinting his eyes.
At that time, he hadn't noticed how odd it was.
'Why did I go back to sleep after waking up a few hours ago?'
He asked himself the question, squinting his eyes.
It was indeed odd.
Oliver was someone who could tirelessly fight for hours on end. His body was practically a tireless machine that could heal all wounds instantly.
His mind was a solid block of iron, quenched in the blood of his enemies. It too cannot be broken by not sleeping for a day or two.
So, why was he so exhausted when he returned home?
'And…if it were an injury, my body would have healed on its own.'
Oliver rubbed off the dust covering his forearms, revealing his arms in perfect condition. Other than thinning of muscles and hair loss, he couldn't find an injury.
'Under the dust, my arms are in pristine condition.'
'No injury there.'
'So, what caused this odd phenomenon?'
'Who can answer me?'
'If Tox were here, I could have asked her to scan my body and conduct some tests.' Oliver mused.
The condition he was in was special. In his position, he couldn't go to a hospital for a checkup.
After all, yesterday's events of defeating millions of blood beetles have once again put him in the limelight. There are hundreds of reporters waiting for a chance to interview him.
At that time, if his unusual condition were leaked, a shit storm would wash over him, resulting in unsavoury news articles being written.
Oliver didn't care much about what the reporters wrote.
However, the thought that it might indirectly affect his family made him hesitate.
'Now that I have a family, I can't take the chance or be reckless.' 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Oliver sat on the ground, thinking about what he should do while slowly rubbing off all the dust and flaky skin on him.
It took him a few minutes.
And when he was done, Oliver looked like a pale zombie. He had no eyebrows or eyelashes, making him look even worse. Combined with the bald head and sunken eyes, it was right to call him unpleasant to look at.
'Where is my tanned bronze skin? Where is my silky smooth hair? Where are my damn charming eyes? Fuck, where am I?'
Oliver looked in the mirror melancholically, his lips curling downwards.
At a glance, he looked similar to a sad emoji. With the eyebrows and hair missing, there was nothing more apt to describe him.
'I should clean here and take a bath before someone else comes.' Oliver silently decided.
He didn't plan to live like this in his home. He had to leave, making some excuse.
'Somewhere safe. Somewhere I can be alone.' Oliver muttered, pulling on his blanket and bed sheet. Incinerating them would be better than cleaning.
The rest of the dust, lying on the floor, was cleaned with a broom and wrapped in a paper bag.
After silently slipping into the bathroom, Oliver took a bath, changed his clothes and jumped out the window, disappearing into the darkness.
