Bloody Odyssey-Chapter 37: Body Of Light II
Chapter 36
The operating room was quiet except for the low hum of machines.
"What is your name?"
Dax looked straight into her eyes. They were beautiful—deep, golden-flecked, almost exactly like Micah’s—but dulled by pain and exhaustion. Unshed tears shimmered under the weak glow coming from her own body.
"Nadia." Her voice came out ghastly, barely a whisper. Tears started rolling down her burnt cheeks, cutting clean lines through the cracked, blackened skin. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Good girl. Don’t cry. I will fix you." His voice stayed soft and steady, almost tender.
Before I give you my blood, you will go through a brief genetic modification so this will never happen again.
Dax paused, letting the words hang in the silence of the room.
"I’m not after your body or soul. I just ask that after you’re fixed, you allow me to observe your changes."
He gave her a small, calm smile—reassuring.
Why does he speak so confidently? Didn’t Grandfather tell him I was cursed by a god? Nadia’s thoughts raced behind her pained golden eyes.
"Aid bot, fetch me two random plants from my Star Farm," Dax ordered.
Master, what is your plan? I’m curious. Inerous’s voice chimed brightly in his mind, full of excitement.
I guess you haven’t figured it out.
Tell me—what is the effect of light rays on plants?
Master, do you want a detailed explanation or a straightforward answer? A hint of sarcasm colored her tone.
Then I believe you know my plan.
She went silent.
Hahaha. Her laughter suddenly rang out—sounding more human than ever.
I’ve been saying it—my master is insane... I assure you, the God will not be happy.
Do you think I care? Dax’s mental reply carried clear disgust.
While they talked in his head, a small silver orb floated into the room, carrying a tray with careful precision. The plants were neatly harvested—no dirt, no sand on the roots.
"Upia dew." Dax smiled.
In front of him lay translucent cyan grass—delicate, almost see-through, the blades faintly glowing with inner light.
"Nadia, the cosmos is in your favor." He rubbed his hand gently against her cheek, almost reverent.
Let’s begin.
Inerous, possess a synth. Take this grass—use its chlorophyll to create stem cells that will grow directly under her skin.
Instantly, Inerous left his mind. A moment later, a beautiful black-haired woman appeared—voluptuous, dressed in elegant black clothes that matched this world’s style.
Her eyes twinkled with streams of code. She adjusted her irises to an unnatural pink color.
"I see you had time for a dress-up." Dax passed her the tray.
"It suits you well." He added the compliment casually.
Her pink lips curved into a lovely smile. Thank you, Master.
She took the tray and skipped out of the room like an excited child.
Dax watched her go, wondering how she had changed so much right under his nose.
—
In the hallways outside, Micah darted back and forth in panic.
"Micah!" Ceron floated in, dragging out his name.
Why are you so worried? Her lens shifted, trying to understand.
"A golem is capable of asking about my well-being." He blurted it out without thinking.
Who the fuck are you calling a golem? Ceron sparked angrily.
"Ohh, and it has a short temper." Micah relaxed a little.
Old man, don’t look down on me. I will chew you like a bone—call me that again, I beg of you.
Ceron floated away while still talking, completely forgetting why she had come over in the first place.
Strange thing. Micah shook his head and pulled his mask on.
—
Master, it’s all done. Inerous walked back in, holding a jar of swirling cyan liquid.
"Good girl." He rubbed the top of her head.
Hmm, Master is touching me. Her thoughts blurred for a second.
How strange. Dax looked away. It was odd for an AI to act like that.
He opened the jar. With calm precision, he picked up a surgical blade and sliced his palm open. Blood welled up. He let it drip into the cyan liquid, then slowly fed the mixture to Nadia.
In the next instant, he activated Synthesis.
A thin silver membrane covered his body. His silver halo appeared above his head.
He placed one thumb on her forehead and the other on her chest, steadily pouring energy into her.
Her charred back started to shift, like something inside was trying to break out. Black goo suddenly burst from her back, spreading fast and covering her entire body.
She lay still inside the cocoon now. A bright white light shone from the center.
The transformation hit immediately. She thrashed around inside the cocoon, her body twisting as if being reshaped from the inside out.
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
