Booking Glory-Chapter 131: Once In A Lifetime Opportunity
"Rob, we need to talk."
Diana’s voice came from behind right after he exited the women’s locker room. Rob winced slightly at the tone of her voice and turned around to look at her.
Diana’s jaw was set. She looked determined to have this conversation. Rob, on the other hand, felt like postponing it as much as possible. However, from the looks of it, it looked like he was very much out of luck.
"Sure," Rob smiled at her, while inwardly cursing his rotten luck. "Let’s head to somewhere private. I feel that you don’t want this conversation to be public, otherwise you would have spoken to me inside, right? After you." Rob gestured.
Diana let out a snort and walked over to the corner in the distance, with Rob following her. Once they put some distance between them and the locker room, Diana leaned on the wall and looked at him.
"Well, what do you want to discuss?" Rob asked amicably.
Diana didn’t speak immediately. She shuffled her legs slightly and looked a bit uncomfortable. But, Rob knew very well that something must be bothering her for her to approach him like this. So, he decided to take the initiative himself.
"Look, if it is about pulling you off TV this week, I have already explained my reasons during our discussion. You don’t need to worry about your momentum. Next week, you will shine," Rob said. "This is just a temporary adjustment due to Marie’s departure. You don’t need to..."
"No, no, it is not about that," Diana cut in hastily. "Well, it is somewhat related, but not exactly about that. I am satisfied with your reasons for this week’s change. But..." Diana trailed off, unsure how to proceed.
Rob didn’t speak this time. He patiently waited for her to broach the subject herself. He had an inkling of an idea what this was about.
"Look," Diana let out a heavy sigh, "I have been hearing some stuff. You know how word gets passed around in the locker room, right? It’s just that I have been hearing some stuff and I want to talk with you about it."
"I can guess what you are talking about," Rob let out a forced chuckled and smiled at her to encourage her.
"Fine, its just awkward you know," Diana chuckled. "Still, I have been under some pressure and need some reassurances. I have been second guessing myself this past week, you know. With all this stuff happening..."
"I understand," Rob sighed. "It is only natural. So, what do you want to know? Ask away. I will try my best to allay some of your fears at least."
"Riiiggghhht," Diana dragged nervously. "Ok, this is hard. Whoo! Still, I need to ask. At least for my peace of mind. You should know what kind of talk is being spread right? I just want to know if there is any truth to it."
"If you are asking about LWC going under, then you don’t need to worry," Rob said bluntly. "I can assure you that LWC will be still standing when this storm blows over."
"Oh!"
"I can’t give you the exact details. But, I can assure at least that. You don’t need to worry. While there might be some troubling times ahead, I can assure you that it is only temporary. LWC can withstand this chaos." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Diana looked a bit relieved to hear that.
"Also, this might be an opportunity for you as well," Rob whispered in a low voice.
"What do you mean?"
"Look, there are always both advantages and disadvantages during chaotic times. The trick is to grab the advantage and hold onto it. You must have heard things about our current roster situation, right?"
"I have."
"If the worst situation occurs, it will be an opportunity for the women’s division."
"What do you mean?"
Rob looked around furtively for a moment and lowered his voice even further than it initially was.
"Think about it, if most of the top stars leave, who else is popular enough to be in the main event scene?"
Diana’s eyes narrowed hearing that.
"Moreover, at the start of the next year, Dacey will be gone for a couple of weeks. Right now, both yours and Dacey’s popularity is equal to that of Mark. But, we won’t be given the main event scene in normal times."
"However, the situation now is a bit different. There is a high chance that you will be occupying the main event scene for around three months come new year. Dacey will not be present in the initial stages. So, it will be entirely upto you to carry the main event scene," Rob said solemnly.
Diana’s eyes widened hearing Rob say that. Rob could see that her mind was already working furiously to ascertain the importance of the information. Still, he decided to spell it out to keep her content for some more time. LWC can’t afford to lose Diana at this point.
"Being a women’s champion and being a main eventer for months are completely different concepts. I don’t need to spell it out for you how important this opportunity is. If you can succeed and sell out a PPV while headlining it, your market value will be completely different."
"Moreover, with Dacey’s absence, even without the title, you will become the top star of the company. I am not telling you that it will be an easy road, but I can guarantee you that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Even if you are having second thoughts about renewing your contract, you should know how rare this opportunity is."
"Think about it, you have already been in a historic match, your current rivalry with Dacey is red hot, and you will be a main eventer for several months. All of this will happen in just a few months. Even if LWC slowly crumbles over the next year, your individual market value will be way higher next year. So, you don’t need to second guess. This is the best decision you have taken in your life."
"You are right..." Diana hummed thoughtfully.
"And it is not just you, the entire women’s division will have prominence in the coming months. So, this is a great chance for the women’s division of LWC. I know things are tense back there in the locker room and there are a lot of doubts. But, this is our ticket to shine. If possible, I want you to spread the word quietly among the women and keep things calm there."
Diana looked at Rob with an unreadable expression after hearing it.
"Look, Diana, I am not going to insult your intelligence. You must be thinking why am I saying this to you, right?" Rob asked, causing Diana to nod. "I am going to be frank here. I know that some of the women are thinking about quitting LWC. I understand their troubles. But, that would be a foolish thing to do."
"Even if you or them go to other promotions, the chances for you folks to get more time is really slim. Moreover, you guys need to compete with others there. I am not just saying this to discourage you, but it is the truth. You know it, those girls know it, and I know it."
"But, LWC’s situation presents an unique opportunity for all of us. Including myself. How long do you think for a new booker like me to get a chance to book a main event of a PPV? Even if I shell out good results, it will take me years to get that opportunity."
"But now, things are different," Rob said in an eager tone. "If we can prove in LWC that we can sell out a PPV, our stocks would rise very high. This is our chance. You can bet your ass that I’m going to go all out in booking this. The same goes for you as well. You need to grab this with both hands."
"There are some things I can’t say to the girls, " Rob said, looking around to make sure nobody was listening in. "But, you can. Spread the word quietly. Assure the locker room. This storm is an opportunity for us. The more bleak things are, the better it is for us. I hope you get it."
Diana nodded solemnly.
"I understand, you don’t need to worry. I will keep the morale high in the locker room," Diana assured. "I hope the pretty picture you are painting will come true. I don’t want to get my hopes up. After all, if LWC goes under, then none of this will happen," Diana bit her lips.
"You won’t have to worry about that. I can guarantee that it won’t happen," Rob reassured her. "Most people in the company don’t know the actual situation. However, I am aware of it. Dacey is aware of some things as well. If you are worried you can ask her."
"Just," Rob lowered his voice a bit. "Just make sure that this information doesn’t spread. Let others panic and make it easier for us. Alright?"
"I hope so," Diana smiled slightly and shook her head. "I will take my leave. We will see what the future brings."
Rob nodded and watched her go. The moment Diana entered the locker room, he slumped on the wall and let out a heavy sigh.
Initially, he had only wanted to reassure Diana. But, as he spoke, his thoughts had become sharper and he began to find new angles that he hadn’t thought about so far.
The analysis he gave to Diana’s wasn’t false either. It was logically correct. That was the reason he was able to convince Diana completely. In a way, what he said to Diana was indeed true.
The bleaker the situation looked for LWC, the more advantageous it will be for him as well.
With thoughts churning in his mind, Rob felt a new plan for the future form in his mind.
