Chapter 88: A Satisfying Kick

Rob’s new pickup truck came in really handy when it came to going to and fro from work. As much as he grumbled with Dacey about it, he kinda enjoyed driving in his new pickup. It gave him a kind of country feel.

The next two days passed in a blur as Rob immersed himself in work. This episode of <Fyre> was going to be a pivotal moment. Rob had his hands full in planning things for the women’s division.

This episode of <Fyre> was important for two reasons. One, the follow-up of Diana’s character development must be done properly. If not, things wouldn’t be as good as he hoped. This might even affect his long-term plans.

The other one was the match between Evelyn and Selena.

LWC has built it for weeks and a proper payoff must be given to that. He had haggled for a bit and somehow managed to get Robin to give 20 mins for the women’s division as a whole.

His plan for Dacey and Diana was simple. He was only making them do the cameo for the episode. The real deal would be the match between Evelyn and Selena. Rob knew that the best thing he could do to establish both of them as legitimate contenders for the LWC Women’s Championship and also not spoil the momentum they both had built up until now, was to give them enough time.

Hence he had allocated around 17 mins for the match in a chunk. Both Evelyn and Selena had been pleased with the allocated match time when Rob informed them on Monday regarding it.

Ever since his announcement, both of them have been pouring their brains together and coming up with numerous spots to make the match an out-and-out banger. Rob warned them not to have too many repeats of their prior encounters and left them at it.

Both Evelyn and Selena knew that this was a huge opportunity for them. They knew that having more than a quarter-hour of time for a single match for the women’s division was truly pushing the envelope as it is.

They also knew that Rob was giving them prominence and taking time away from the others to let them shine a bit. After all, they knew what the final plan for the PPV was going to be. So, they knew that they needed to capitalize on this one as much as possible.

Rob could see their drive and hunger in the manner they went about the preparation. He was gratified to see them working hard. His biggest fear to date was not running out of storylines or ideas to dazzle the audience with. No, it was the fear of being let down by the performers after he had set a great stage for them with storytelling.

Hence, he had always kept one eye on the performers’ preparations.

Until now, he hadn’t bothered much because the focus has always been on Dacey and Diana. Diana was a veteran and there was no need to worry about her performance. And he knew how motivated Dacey was to finally get a chance. So, he hadn’t worried about that duo much.

On the contrary, he didn’t know much about Evelyn and Selena in any true sense. So, he had always had slight doubt in his heart. For he had heard stories about wrestlers wasting given opportunities far too many times.

But, after seeing them prepare for the match wholeheartedly, he put down that worry and became a little relaxed.

As for the issue with the papers trying to tie him up with Steven and Mr. Wagner’s story, Rob didn’t pay much attention to it. He knew from talking to Todd that there really wasn’t much he could do in regard to that.

The media had a story and they were going to milk it for extra mileage as much as possible. So, it was only natural for them to include him to create more buzz. After all, he was one of the very few new-generation stars Steven and Mr. Wagner had approached.

That alone added a bit of multifaceted reality to the story. It added another exciting aspect for the media to write about. As he didn’t have any outlets to tell his side of the story or make a statement, apart from Todd, he could only endure it and try to not care about it as much as possible.

He knew that when Todd’s piece comes out, things will soon blow over and the media will have some other topic to go after. As long as he passed through this period, he was relatively safe from being embroiled in the storm that was soon going to come out.

For now, he had to smile at people and reassure them that he wasn’t going anywhere. If everyone could be like Mr. Wolfe, who asked one time and stopped caring about it, it would be best. But, some people were naturally prone to gossip and they tried to trick him into revealing more details in their quest to satiate their thirst for gossip.

While answering repeated questions about his apparent soon-to-come defection from the company was a bit irritating, Rob also used this time as an opportunity to learn more about his coworkers and their likes in a subtle manner.

As for the matter regarding Brent’s new project, Rob didn’t even care about it if he was being honest. He had already given them the basic framework. If Brent could carry on with it, then all is well and good. Furthermore, he didn’t even know how he could help anymore.

So, there was no use in fretting over it. To be frank, Rob didn’t even care if Brent succeeded in creating the software or not. It wasn’t going to affect him much in his opinion. If Brent succeeded, it was well and good. If not, there was no skin off his back.

Hence, it didn’t even occur to Rob to care about it.

All in all, Rob was content heading into the next episode of <Fyre>.

<October 23, Longham Wrestling Arena, Longham City>

"Hello folks, welcome to yet another weekly television of pro wrestling extravaganza. We are joining you live from Longham City. And this week’s edition of <Fyre> is promising to deliver some very interesting moments."

"Joining me on the commentary table are Rob Williams and Dallas Moonbyte. Before we move into the show, here is a clip that was taken earlier today. Things between Dacey and Diana have become dicey, legally this time!" Irvin spoke welcoming everyone to the show.

Immediately following that, the titantron became black and a video that was shot earlier in the evening began to play.

The camera feed shook as if the cameraman was running towards a destination. Loud voices could be heard from the distance and there were arguments happening. Just as the camera neared the area of commotion, Dacey’s figure was shown.

"That’s right! Put her in jail! Let her rot down there! I don’t want to see her face ever again!" Dacey screeched like a banshee as the camera focused on her.

The camera angle shifted and the commotion became apparent to the audience. There were four policemen in Longham City uniform. They had Diana in cuffs and they were escorting her.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gibson was trying to mediate with the officers in the middle. There were a lot of questions thrown around and the officers were patiently explaining to Mr. Gibson why they were arresting Diana.

"... our hands are tied, Mr. Gibson. Unless the person who gave the complaint withdraws it, we have no other option than to arrest Ms. Diana Wharton for damaging personal property," one of the officers explained calmly.

Mr. Gibson looked really at the end of his rope as he looked around and zeroed in on Dacey who was shouting from behind the camera. Mr. Gibson walked angrily towards her and the camera followed him.

"Dacey, withdraw the complaint," Mr. Gibson said authoritatively.

"Excuse me," before Dacey could reply an oily voice spoke from behind her causing the camera to focus on the person.

A slimy-looking male with a large grin and glasses appeared on the screen. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"I am afraid that such an action is impossible. Ms. Diana has committed a felony and my client, Ms. Dacey, has all rights to sue her for it," the man said with a slimy smile that just rubbed the people the wrong way.

"Who the hell are you?" Mr. Gibson asked angrily.

"I am Liam Jamesworth, Ms. Dacey’s attorney," the man replied smoothly.

"You!" Mr. Gibson said as if he realized something. "You are the scumbag that has been putting all these ridiculous ideas in her head!!!"

Mr. Gibson blew up in anger at the man and grabbed him by the collar.

"Mr. Gibson, may I remind you that what you are doing currently can be considered a felony as well. You are assaulting me. That too in front of the police!" the man said smilingly and looked behind Mr. Gibson.

Mr. Gibson had no other choice but to let him go. But, it was clear from his face that he would very much love to rip this man in pieces. Taking a deep breath, Mr. Gibson tried to calm down and looked at the man angrily.

"What the hell are you doing? You have been whispering all these poisonous things in my protégé’s mind and are leading her astray. I won’t stand for that!" Mr. Gibson shouted angrily.

"Mr. Gibson, I am not doing anything that doesn’t involve my job. As Ms. Dacey’s attorney, I am within my rights to give her legal counsel when she asks for it. Furthermore, Ms. Dacey is an adult. Who she keeps as her lawyer and who she listens to is not something you can interfere in," Liam Jamesworth spoke with a big smile that made people want to punch him.

"You! You! I fucking hate lawyers!!!" Mr. Gibson flipped out and kicked nearby stuff angrily.

"Andy, Andy, Andy! Don’t take your anger out on him. I asked you last week," Dacey came in to defend the slimy man and he hid behind her to escape Mr. Gibson’s rage.

"I asked you last week. Remember? I asked what you were going to do about Diana destroying my limo. But you told me that there wasn’t anything you could do. Well, apparently there was something that could be done. Guess what, my lawyer Liam here told me what to do," Dacey spoke back angrily.

"Now, your precious former champion is going to spend time in jail for committing a felony. There is absolutely nothing you could do about it. You can’t protect her anymore, Andy!"

"Dacey! This isn’t the right way to do things. Withdraw that complaint. We can talk this out in my office," Mr. Gibson once more tried to persuade Dacey.

"Ahem... may I remind you, Mr. Gibson, that this behavior is unacceptable too. If you don’t watch your tone, this might be misconstrued as you threatening my client to take back the complaint. I am pretty sure that it is a felony..."

Liam trailed off as Mr. Gibson snarled in his face.

"Shut! Up!" Mr. Gibson said menacingly and cut him off causing Liam to whimper and take shelter behind Dacey.

"Andy! You can’t do this! You can’t threaten my lawyer!" Dacey said shielding Liam once more and cutting off Mr. Gibson’s access to him.

In the arena, the audience started booing seeing Dacey shield the slimy-looking advocate. They wanted Mr. Gibson to grab hold of that attorney and bash him up pretty nicely. To see Dacey shielding him aroused dissatisfaction among the crowd.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gibson and Dacey were exchanging harsh words on the screen. Diana was between the police officers behind Mr. Gibson. She was watching the exchange take place with a blasé look. She looked as if she didn’t care one whit about the charges that were pressed on her.

After a minute of back and forth, Diana had enough of the argument and decided to end it. The way she went about it was absolutely gratifying to the people that were watching in the arena.

Sometime during the argument between Dacey and Mr. Gibson, the weasel-looking attorney came to stand right before Diana facing away from her as he tried to escape Mr. Gibson’s reaching hands.

The next moment, Diana delivered a vicious kick to the advocate’s private parts from behind causing everyone to gasp and wince in sympathy.

The camera focused on Liam’s funny face as he clutched his privates and went down. Dacey’s outraged expression and Mr. Gibson’s satisfied smile were also captured on the camera, along with Diana’s triumphant smirk, making a memorable photo moment.

The next moment, several things happened at once.

The police officers reacted swiftly and restrained Diana to prevent her from further attacking Liam. Dacey became outraged and screeched angrily. Mr. Gibson grabbed Dacey by the waist and restrained her as well.

Meanwhile, in the arena, the crowd cheered Diana on and let their approval known very vocally. There were also several sympathetic winces among the crowd from the male audience seeing such a vicious kick to a very private region.

However, almost everyone loved Diana for taking a shot at the attorney. This made the crowd go nuts as they cheered her on for her actions. As the crowd egged Diana on, Diana was being held back and taken away by the cops on the screen.

With Mr. Gibson restraining Dacey and the cops restraining Diana, it created a chaotic scene where other people backstage also appeared to separate the two. Despite that, both Diana and Dacey were mouthing off at each other.

"You can’t get rid of me that easily, bitch!" Diana hollered while being carried away by the cops. "That title belongs to me. You better keep it warm. I am going to take it away from your cold dead hands soon!"

"Take her away! I don’t want to see her at all!" Dacey for her part yelled hysterically while being restrained by Mr. Gibson and other people backstage.

The camera followed as the cops escorted Diana to the parking lot and put her in a car. Dacey wasn’t to be outdone. She kept screeching and shouting things at Diana all the while despite people trying to get her to back off.

When Diana was secured in the car, Dacey brazenly went near the window and started trash-talking her. Diana wasn’t idle either, she gave back as good as she got. With both of them insulting each other nonstop, things began to look very tense despite the presence of cops present in the scene.

Just as the cops started the car, Dacey was screeching at Diana madly through the window from outside. Diana didn’t reply this time. With her hands tied behind her, it was hard for her to retaliate in any way.

However, just when the car started moving, Diana leaned out of the window and spat in Dacey’s face causing Dacey to let out an outraged scream. Before she could react, the car had moved away with Diana’s hollering laughter echoing from within the car.

The camera followed Dacey back as she left angrily. She was arguing with Mr. Gibson, who was trying to convince her to drop charges, vehemently as she headed back in. Despite Mr. Gibson’s convincing, Dacey refused to drop the charges and left fuming towards the locker room.

Soon the area was cleared and the only person left moaning on the ground was Liam. The camera turned a bit and focused on him as he was groaning on the ground from pain.

"That is a felony. I am going to sue her..."

Liam muttered weakly as the camera cut off the feed, causing the crowd to erupt in huge laughter.
