Chapter 89: Evelyn Vs Selena

"Diana deserves it!" Rob crowed from the announce table. "She absolutely deserves it. Didn’t I tell you Dallas? Didn’t I tell you? The Goddess is not going to let Diana run roughshod around here anymore. I hope she rots in jail!"

"I think this is a bit of an overreaction from Dacey," Dallas said calmly. "Let me remind you, it was Dacey who cheated Diana out of the title. Diana is obviously lashing out in the best way she knows. Granted, what she did wasn’t something commendable. But, the blame for the situation escalating this much lies with Dacey mostly!"

"Shame on you, Dallas! The Goddess is the victim here. She is the victim of a violent crime. How can you sit here and blame the Goddess for the heinous actions of that deranged Diana?" Rob flipped out as he came to the aid of Dacey.

"All I am saying is that Dacey Surestone brought this on herself. She was the one who attacked Diana first. She was the one who took the shortcut at <Last Stand>. She was the one who cheated Diana out of the title that rightfully belonged to her. What she is experiencing is karma! Nothing more, nothing less," Dallas didn’t budge on the issue.

"Irvin, back me up here. Tell Dallas that he is being a stubborn idiot!" Rob turned and spoke to Irvin. "You agree with me, right? What the Goddess did was perfectly legal."

"There is legal, and then, there is ethical!" Dallas chimed causing Rob to grit his teeth.

"Just saying, doing something legally doesn’t mean it is the right thing to do. Not to mention, this is the first time I have seen a pro wrestler press charges against a competitor. This is a black mark on our industry and Dacey should be ashamed of taking the easy way out once more," Dallas said shaking his head in disappointment.

"Dallas, you realize that you are supporting a convict on live TV, don’t you?" Rob said in exasperation. "Don’t be like a stubborn mule. Open your eyes. Diana got arrested by cops. They wouldn’t do so without proper evidence. That is an indisputable fact."

"Rob, I think your inexperience is speaking here. When a wrestler has a problem with some other wrestler, we deal with it in the ring. It is what we do normally. We have our own code of conduct. Dacey has violated it. I can’t support that," Dallas said shaking his head vehemently.

"What? You want to give Diana a shot at the title after what she did? Are you out of your mind!? She isn’t fit to wear that belt after what she did. The shame on LWC will be monumental if we let a convict wear our top prize," Rob said aghast.

"So, you think if Diana faced Dacey once again, then Dacey would lose? Because that is the only way for Diana to have that title on her waist now. So, you agree that Dacey wouldn’t win against Diana," Dallas asked sharply.

"I didn’t say that! I didn’t say that! You are putting words in my mouth!"

"Come on Rob, we all heard what you said. And I agree with you. The last time Dacey cheated. This time Diana and the referees will be ready for it. She couldn’t beat Diana if that is the case. So, there is no way that Dacey would be able to beat Diana again."

"I think, Dacey knows this as well. That is why she is running away from Diana. She is taking the easy way out, once again. She knows she can’t beat Diana fairly. So, she is making sure Diana wouldn’t get her title shot," Dallas analyzed calmly.

"Absolutely not! The Goddess isn’t afraid of anyone, Dallas. You are just prejudiced against her. The Goddess would whoop Diana’s ass all over Longham City."

"However, she is way too classy to do something like that. She feels it is beneath her status to deal with a criminal like Diana personally. What the Goddess wants to do is end the reign of terror Diana has imposed upon this company!" Rob said righteously.

"Reign of terror?" Dallas asked bemusedly. "Are you even listening to what comes out of your mouth? Diana has been the ideal champion for the LWC women’s division. She never shied away from a challenge and she was ready to defend her title anytime any place."

"Bah! There is no use in arguing with a stubborn mule like you!" Rob said throwing his hands into the air.

"Guys, guys, let cooler heads prevail," Irvin came in right then and cut off their argument as usual. "I am sure, Mr. Gibson would do the necessary things. There is no use in us arguing about this."

"Speaking of the women’s division, there is a huge match that is coming up next. Evelyn Carter and Selena Sanchez are set to go one-on-one in a Falls Count Anywhere match next."

"Let me tell you, this is the first time Mr. Gibson has sanctioned a Falls Count Anywhere match for the women’s division. This is history in the making in its own right. And the competitive spirit between these two women isn’t any less than Dacey and Diana. Rob, what’s your take on this one?" Irvin asked Rob after introducing the upcoming match.

"My pick is Evelyn," Rob said stoically. "Even though she might be at a disadvantage heading into the match as a submission specialist, she has the needed brutality in her to win this match."

"Dallas, what about you?" Irving asked Dallas.

"There is a high chance that Evelyn would win. I feel what Rob said is right. Make no mistake, Selena Sanchez is one hell of a competitor. But, a Falls Count Match is just different," Dallas said solemnly.

"You need a certain kind of mindset to win these types of matches," Dallas continued. "Like Rob said, Evelyn Carter has the right type of mindset. She is brutal and vicious when needed. While Selena may be a marvel to watch in the ring, it isn’t the right kind of skillset to have in this kind of a match."

"What about her finisher? Selena’s Right? That wicked punch can put down Evelyn for count anytime, anywhere. Wouldn’t such a finisher that could be unleashed out of nowhere have a great advantage in this kind of match?" Irvin asked curiously.

"Her Selena’s Right has the potential to be a deadly surprise. There is no mistaking it. However, I don’t think it would be enough to hold back a very game Evelyn, who is out for blood," Dallas shook his head. "But, that being said, I am not counting out Selena either. Who knows, Selena might even surprise me."

Dallas chuckled causing Rob to snort. Irvin shook his head and looked directly into the camera.

"Well folks, before we move further, let’s take a look back on how things between Evelyn and Selena turned so sour," Irvin said motioning to the titantron.

A video package featuring Evelyn and Selena’s rivalry began playing on the titantron. Ever since Rob took charge of the women’s division, the amount of video packages that were rolled out for the women’s division has been increasing of late.

Rob had almost got into argument with the video department in LWC due to his requests. But, despite their grumblings, they always delivered what Rob wanted out of them. Once Rob told them his vision, they would make sure to deliver it as good as possible.

This time wasn’t an exception either.

The video started with the historic Triple-Threat Match. It followed with the verbal clash between Evelyn and Selena. Next, the no-contest match between the duo was shown. It was the event where a lot of footage was concentrated on.

Rob had requested the video department to highlight the fight between Evelyn and Selena in the crowd as much as possible. Finally, their brawl last week along with Irvin’s voice-over announcing the Falls Count Anywhere match was played.

The titantron went blank and Evelyn’s music started blaring immediately. Evelyn walked out of the curtain with a focused look on her face. The commentary team put her over as she made her way to the ring.

The cheers for Evelyn were loud. The crowd absolutely loved her no-nonsense type of personality and they showed it when she posed in the ring. Just as Evelyn was posing, Selena’s music rang cutting off Evelyn’s spotlight.

Evelyn showed a displeased face seeing Selena’s early entrance. Selena, for her part, acted as if she didn’t know about it and made her way to the ring amidst a huge ovation.

The cheers Selena garnered were really loud compared to Evelyn’s. It was clear from it that Selena was more popular than Evelyn with the crowd. Rob knew that it was more due to Selena’s character and in-ring style.

Still, it was gratifying for him to see the face getting more ovation than a heel. Even though the roles weren’t divided between the duo clearly, the audience was able to sense who was the face and who was the heel heading into this match. It showed Rob that the audience could be influenced by storytelling without them even knowing the full picture.

Selena took a little too long to enter the ring causing Evelyn to pace angrily inside the ring. She almost got into an argument with the referee when she tried to go after Selena before she could get in.

Selena didn’t care about Evelyn’s actions one bit. She cheerfully played up the crowd and started posing to the crowd once she entered the ring. After posing for a while, she then went towards the turnbuckles to pose further.

That was it. Evelyn was done waiting.

As Selena was posing on the turnbuckle, Evelyn came from behind fast and attacked Selena viciously on her back. Evelyn didn’t even give Selena enough time to get out of her attire. She dragged her by the hair and slammed her from the turnbuckle into the mat unceremoniously.

The referee tried to interfere, only for Evelyn to roar in his face to start the damn match. The referee had no other option as this was a False Count Anywhere match and it didn’t have any disqualification.

The bell rang and Evelyn immediately pounced on Selena by kicking and stomping at her as Selena rolled on the mat.

The crowd didn’t appreciate Evelyn’s actions one bit. While they liked watching people beat each other up viciously, they expected the wrestlers to follow the protocol. Evelyn attacking Selena before the match even began put her on the opposite side of the crowd immediately.

Boos started emerging from the crowd as Evelyn went to work on Selena. If it was before, Evelyn would have been a little worried about the boos that were emerging from the crowd.

However, after listening to Rob’s ideas and seeing how Dacey had used those boos to garner more popularity, Evelyn wasn’t worried about the boos from the crowd. In fact, she did the opposite.

Evelyn improvised on the fly and grabbed Selena by the hair. Trusting her partner, Selena went along with the flow. Evelyn put Selena on the corner and taunted the crowd.

"Shut up! I am teaching this bitch a lesson in respect!" Evelyn yelled at the crowd and slapped Selena right across the face.

The crowd reciprocated back in equal measure by increasing the volume of the boos. Evelyn looked at them angrily and then showcased her anger right back at Selena as if she was punishing Selena for the crowd’s audacity.

"Not so tough now, are you?" Evelyn slapped Selena and talked trash at her rousing the crowd’s ire further.

"That’s right! You can never hang in this ring with me! You are nothing!" Evelyn slapped Selena further while talking trash.

The crowd was really angry with Evelyn’s attitude by now. She was showing no respect to her opponent. And the manner in which she treated Selena irked them further.

Suddenly, Selena grabbed Evelyn by the hair and reversed their predicament. With Evelyn in the corner, Selena went ballistic and started raining blows on her non-stop as if she was triggered by Evelyn’s taunts.

The crowd cheered her on as she put Evelyn through a ringer. Evelyn was obviously dazed in the corner by the sudden onslaught of offense from Selena. Selena vented her anger out on Evelyn and then moved back a little to pose for the crowd.

She reached the opposite corner and hyped the crowd up, before running fast and tried to deliver a splash in the corner. However, Evelyn was smart enough to move away and Selena went crashing into the turnbuckle. This caused the crowd’s enthusiasm to dim a bit.

Evelyn capitalized on Selena’s mistake. She lifted Selena up and slammed her onto the mat, before trying to take a breather. Once she got back her breath, she once again started beating up Selena relentlessly. This time she didn’t taunt or mock her and solely concentrated on wearing her down.

Sitting at the commentary, Rob felt that the in-ring psychology put out by both Selena and Evelyn was top-notch. He was especially impressed by their on-the-fly improvisation.

By allowing the crowd to get involved in the match, Evelyn and Selena made sure that the crowd would love the match regardless of the outcome. Moreover, the current scenario was such that there was an undercurrent running through the match subtly.

By letting dominate Evelyn so far in the match, this match had added a new dimension to it. From the looks and feels of it, Rob was beginning to feel that Selena was kind of an underdog in the match. She was not Evelyn’s equal so far.

With the change in that dynamic, the crowd had been subtly influenced to support the underdog to win. After all, it was natural for the crowd to want to see an underdog win against a superior opponent.

Furthermore, Evelyn’s style of wrestling and her looks were dominant in nature. This created a nice contrast between Evelyn and Selena during the match, leveling up their in-ring chemistry by a notch.

As the match went on, Rob was able to feel it more and more. The crowd’s support for Selena only raised things to a new level further. Inside the ring, Evelyn and Selena were giving it their best. Rob’s keen sense of business told him that there was going to be a shift in the dynamic soon.

Just as he was thinking about it, Selena made a sudden comeback when Evelyn tried to perform a superplex from the top rope. She slammed her elbows on Evelyn’s back and made her lose her grip.

Before Evelyn could recover, Selena sent her flying into the mat and got a little bit of breathing room. Evelyn slammed hard on the mat and laid there dazed. As the crowd cheered her on, Selena took a bold risk and performed a frog splash from the top rope onto lying Evelyn.

The impact was hard and the crowd cheered them on.

However, much to the crowd’s dismay, performing the frog splash drained too much of Selena’s reserve and she was spent at that time. Thus, she couldn’t pin Evelyn.

As Selena recovered, Evelyn wisely rolled out of the ring before she could crawl over and pin her. Selena let out a frustrated sigh and followed Evelyn outside, only to be met with a clothesline that almost turned her upside down.

Evelyn looked around and saw the crowd booing her. Angered by their boos, Evelyn decided to put Selena away for good. She looked at Selena with an evil glint on her face.

Stomping on Selena to make sure that she stayed low, Evelyn started looking under the ring for any weapon she could use. Seeing her actions, the crowd roared in anger and booed her further.

Suddenly, Evelyn got up with a long kendo stick in her hands. She stopped and admired the kendo stick as the crowd booed loudly in the background.
