Chapter 55

Seraphina stirred awake, lashes fluttering open to the soft glow of morning light bleeding through the curtains. The room was quiet, warm, and the first thing she felt was not the silk sheets, but the man wrapped around her. His arms were caged tightly around her waist, possessive and unmoving, like he’d gripped her all night and couldn’t bear the thought of letting go. His face was buried in her neck, breath brushing over her skin in slow, steady exhales, the scruff of his jaw lightly grazing her throat.

She smiled faintly, body aching in a delicious, well-used way as she savored the closeness. His bare chest was flush against her back, skin to skin, heat to heat. She shifted just slightly—and froze when she felt him, hard and pressed firmly against her from behind.

"You’re awake," Rhydian murmured, voice low and rough from sleep. His lips ghosted over her shoulder, a gentle kiss that sent a shiver across her skin.

"I thought you’d be gone by now," she whispered, teasing him, though her body leaned into his instinctively. Her slight movement dragged her against his arousal—and the quiet inhale he took was sharp, immediate.

"I’m not going anywhere," he said, his grip tightening. "Not when you feel like this in my arms."

In one fluid motion, Rhydian shifted her onto her back, settling between her thighs. His body was heavy, comforting, and hot—deliciously so. He stared down at her with tousled dark hair, sleep-laced eyes, and a smirk that made her stomach clench.

"Unless you want me to leave?" he asked, voice pure heat.

She ran her fingers along the line of his jaw. "You? Leave? With me like this beneath you?"

"Exactly," he whispered. He rolled his hips once, deliberately, letting her feel the full hardness of his length."See what you caused?"

"All I did was breathe," she said, breath hitching as her thighs instinctively parted wider.

His mouth traced a slow, searing path from her collarbone down to the curve of her breast. "Keep breathing like that and I’ll lose control. I’ll take you again. Slow this time. Deep. Until you scream my name like a prayer."

Her legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him flush against her, and she rocked her hips up to meet his. "And if I want that?"

Rhydian’s eyes darkened, a flicker of something primal in his gaze. He didn’t answer with words. Instead, he claimed her mouth in a kiss that stole her breath—devouring and full of hunger. His hand slid along her thigh, gliding upward with maddening slowness until he was cupping sensitive spot, fingers teasing, coaxing a moan from deep in her throat.

She was already soaked for him, and he groaned into her mouth when he felt it. "Fuck, Seraphina... You’re perfect."

His body lowered, his length dragging against her with exquisite friction, teasing her entrance. And then, with one slow, deep thrust—he sank into her.

They both stilled, eyes locked, mouths parted in unison gasps.

He wasn’t rough this time. He moved slowly, reverently, each stroke deliberate and deep, like he was memorizing the feel of her. She clung to him, arms around his neck, nails digging into his back with every maddening glide of his hips.

"Rhydian..." she moaned, breathless, arching into him.

"I’ve got you," he murmured, pressing his forehead to hers. "I’m right here."

Every inch of her burned. His weight over her, his rhythm inside her, his hands roaming her skin—it was too much and not enough. She met every thrust, hips rising to take him deeper. Their bodies moved in perfect sync, the friction between them building like a rising tide, slow and relentless.

"You feel so fucking good," he groaned against her mouth. "So tight. So warm. You were made for me." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Her body tensed, pleasure coiling, rising. "Rhydian—"

"I know," he whispered, voice breaking, "I feel it too."

He reached between them, thumb finding that perfect spot—and her world shattered.

Seraphina cried out, her body convulsing, muscles clenching around him as her orgasm ripped through her like fire. Her nails dug into his skin, and Rhydian didn’t stop—he thrust into her once, twice more, and with a harsh groan, he followed her into oblivion, spilling inside her with a growl of her name.

They clung to each other through the aftershocks, bodies slick with sweat, hearts pounding in time.

When the last tremor faded, Rhydian pressed a lingering kiss to her lips, tender now, full of something dangerously close to love.

"You’re going to ruin me," he whispered.

She smiled sleepily, brushing hair from his damp forehead. "i want to."

Then—

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

The knock was sharp. Urgent.

"Your Majesty?" a voice called from outside.

Rhydian ignored, then leaned down to kiss her, but Seraphina placed a hand over his mouth, stopping him.

"You should go." She whispered, but Rhydian didn’t move, he just groaned and buried his face between her breasts. "Let them wait," he muttered, voice muffled.

Seraphina laughed softly, still dazed from pleasure. "You’ll start a war if you keep ignoring them."

"I’ll start ten if it means staying inside you," he growled.

Eventually, he kissed her once more, pulled out slowly with a final groan, and stood. He washed up and dressed up with quick, practiced motions, then he headed out, but not before casting her one last look—full of heat, hunger, and something dangerous.

When he opened the door, the guard stood stiff, clearly startled by the raw intensity in Rhydian’s expression.

"What’s so important it couldn’t fucking wait?" Rhydian asked, voice sharp as steel.

The guard swallowed hard. "Your Majesty. Lady Karine has returned."

Rhydian’s expression shifted.

His spine stiffened.

Karine.

He hadn’t heard that name in weeks. The woman he was originally supposed to marry. The one picked by the court for political alliance. They grew up together, but it was never love—hell, it wasn’t even want. She was kind, yes. Dutiful. But she had always felt like a cousin, a friend, not a lover.

When she left to visit her mother’s family in the human kingdom, things had been uncertain. And when the diviner saw a vision about the witches being the key to ending the war, the marriage between him and seraphina was decided. Karine didn’t know about the marriage, about Seraphina, about the sudden twist that had changed everything.

Karine’s mother was human. Her father—a cousin of Rhydian’s own father—gave her royal blood, but barely. Their marriage was supposed to be more of strategy than emotion.

And yet, now that she was back... things were going to get complicated.

He sighed sharply. "Where is she?"
