Chapter 47: Queen Between Kings
"Err, looking young is not a problem at all—in fact, everyone wishes for that. As for the school rules..." Elizabeth commented but didn’t finish her statement. "So you’re his wife? You’re really lucky, sweetheart," she added with a warm smile.
Zaiyila picked up one of the snacks with her fork and took a bite, but knitted her brows immediately afterward.
"You don’t like it?" Elizabeth inquired.
Zaiyila shook her head. "It’s fine. Just finish your food quickly so we can leave," she added.
"Ah, someone’s missing her husband already," Elizabeth teased.
Zaiyila blushed, and at that moment, someone knocked gently on their table. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"Excuse me, can I sit with you?" a man’s voice asked, drawing both Elizabeth’s and Zaiyila’s attention.
The two girls looked up—and were left stunned. A peerlessly handsome man with blonde hair stood before them. His attractive eyes were fixed on Zaiyila, and he wore a gentle smile.
Elizabeth covered her mouth in shock, seemingly recognizing him. "Eryx! It’s actor Eryx! My... my idol! Top celebrity! I must be dreaming, right? Aiyi baby, don’t snap me back to reality just yet!" she gasped, covering her mouth more tightly to stifle her excitement.
Zaiyila, dumbfounded, glanced at Elizabeth, then back at Eryx. She studied him carefully before furrowing her brows. "Why do I feel like I’m looking at Eve when I see this man?" she thought.
Elizabeth immediately stood up from her seat, even though there were still two vacant chairs. "Please, sit down—please," she urged, but Eryx kept his gaze locked on Zaiyila, not sparing Elizabeth a glance nor sitting down.
Zaiyila blinked twice, realizing she’d been staring for too long. She coughed awkwardly and tear her gaze away from him. "You... can sit," she murmured, avoiding eye contact.
Eryx took the seat beside Zaiyila and flashed her a warm smile.
Elizabeth, slightly embarrassed, quickly snapped out of her daze. "Damn! I’m actually seeing him!" she muttered, sitting back down and continuing to gaze at Eryx with a foolish smile.
"I’m Eryx from the Goldage family. May I have the honor of knowing the name of the beauty before me?" Eryx inquired, his charming smile never faltering.
Zaiyila looked at him, her heart fluttering with a strange mix of emotions. The more she looked, the more he resembled Everett—and it stirred something confusing within her.
"Um... me, I’m... Zaiyila. Nice to meet you," she stammered, trying to avoid his eyes.
Eryx smiled. "Zaiyila... what a beautiful name—fit for a Queen. I bet you’re treated like one," he remarked.
Zaiyila couldn’t help but smile, recalling how Everett had completely changed her life. "Yes... he treats me exactly like a Queen," she replied, glancing at Eryx. "I’m not actually a Queen though, but I love the title," she added with a soft chuckle.
Eryx chuckled as well. "Says who that you are not a Queen? Did that’s bastard make you believe that?" he thought. "Then the pretty lady won’t mind if I address her as My Queen, right?" he asked aloud.
Zaiyila shook her head. "I don’t mind," she replied—then immediately realized what she had just permitted, but it was already too late.
"Alright then, My Queen, may I exchange contact information with you?" Eryx asked.
"Um... I don’t think that’s—"
"I just want to be your friend. You see, I’ve tried to make friends, but people distance themselves from me because of what I am. When I saw you, I instantly liked you. So... please, will you accept me?" Eryx asked earnestly.
Zaiyila hesitated for a brief moment before nodding. "Um... no problem, then. I’ll accept," she agreed, exchanging contacts with him—unaware that she had just unknowingly accepted Eryx’s proposal. Right after she did, a soft glow flickered at her neck, which only Eryx noticed. A satisfied smile spread across his lips as he watched the glow fade.
After the exchange, Zaiyila smiled at him. "Um... since we’re friends now, let me introduce you. This is Elizabeth—she’s the first friend I ever made," she said, motioning toward Elizabeth, whose eyes remained glued to Eryx.
"Um... Lizzy! Lizzy!" Zaiyila called out repeatedly before Elizabeth finally jolted back to reality.
"I’m very sorry—I was just... just..." she stammered, her face flushed with embarrassment.
Zaiyila sighed. "Eve..." She paused, realizing she had accidentally called out Everett’s name.
"Oh, my bride missed me already. Thankfully, I came at the right time—or My Queen would’ve missed me so much, she’d run back home immediately," a cold voice echoed just as Zaiyila was about to correct herself, stunning everyone in the restaurant—except Eryx.
"Eve!" Zaiyila called out joyfully, rushing into his embrace. "What are you doing here?" she asked, sounding like a giddy little girl.
Everett affectionately rubbed her hair and planted a kiss on her forehead. "I heard my name and I arrived," he whispered in her ear, lightly biting it.
Zaiyila shivered and blushed. "I... I didn’t mean to—it was an accident. Did I disturb you?" she asked with concern.
"Nope," Everett replied, shaking his head. But his eyes soon landed on Zaiyila’s neck, and a murderous aura surged from him. In a flash, he appeared before Eryx, grabbed him by the collar, and punched him hard.
The punch wasn’t full force, but it was strong enough to make Eryx cough up blood. Strangely, Everett coughed up blood as well, and both of their faces turned red where the punch had landed.
Zaiyila was stunned and rushed to Everett immediately.
"Eve! Eve, what’s... what’s happening? Are you okay?" Tears streamed down her face.
Both Everett and Eryx looked at Zaiyila and simultaneously reached out to cover her eyes, shielding her from the sight of blood as they glared fiercely at each other.
"Eve... Eryx..." Zaiyila’s choked voice trembled in the air.
"Calm down, My Queen—it’s nothing serious, you don’t have to worry" both Eryx and Everett assured her in unison, their voices tight with restraint as they continued to stare each other down like enemies ready to tear into each other.
