Chapter 48: Tension and apologies
"Are... are you sure you’re both fine? You both spat—"
"My Queen!" they both interjected in alarm.
"Um... it’s fine, nothing big," Everett remarked, slapping Eryx’s hand away once the blood was no longer visible.
Eryx looked around and noticed that everyone was staring at them. His eyes glowed briefly, and in an instant, everything returned to normal—or rather, everyone forgot what had just occurred and resumed eating.
Elizabeth blinked several times as the spell affected her as well. She looked at Everett, who gently sat Zaiyila down, then gasped.
"You are here as well. Please sit down, sir," she offered, standing from her seat once again for Everett. To her dismay, Everett didn’t even glance at her and instead settled into the seat beside Zaiyila on the left.
Elizabeth flushed with embarrassment and sat back down, glancing nervously between Eryx and Everett.
Zaiyila looked at the spot where both Eryx and Everett had spat blood earlier but found no trace. She turned to Everett, searching his face to see if he was hurt, but he appeared perfectly fine.
"Eve, are you sure you’re okay?" she asked worriedly.
Everett looked at Zaiyila and was about to respond when Eryx interrupted.
"My Queen, you should be worried about me instead of him. He was the one who punched me," he declared.
Everett cast him a murderous glare.
Zaiyila turned to Eryx and slightly lowered her head. "I’m sorry," she murmured.
Everett patted Zaiyila’s hair. "Don’t lower your head to someone like him. It’s not worth it," he assured her with a warm smile.
Eryx let out a loud chuckle. "You say that, but it’s possible you’re referring to yourself too, you know," he quipped, smirking meaningfully.
Everett’s gaze turned cold immediately as he fixed it on Eryx. "Don’t test my patience!" he growled, his voice thick with murderous intent.
Elizabeth didn’t dare make a sound. If possible, she wished to vanish from the scene entirely—it was better not to provoke either of them. Both were dangerous.
"Eve," Zaiyila called softly.
Everett turned back to Zaiyila and smiled. "Are you feeling tired? Should we go home?" he inquired.
Zaiyila looked apologetically at Eryx before nodding. "Let’s go," she agreed.
Everett helped Zaiyila up and threw another glance at Eryx, who responded with a provocative smile. Then he turned to Elizabeth, his glare sharp and threatening.
Elizabeth’s heart pounded as though it would burst from her chest. She gulped nervously and immediately averted her gaze, silently regretting her decision to come today.
"Eve," Zaiyila called again, sensing the hostility in Everett’s eyes.
Everett looked back at her and walked away with her.
As soon as the couple were out of sight, Elizabeth let out a deep breath of relief.
"That was terrifying," she muttered, patting her chest. Then she glanced at Eryx, whose smile had long disappeared, replaced by cold indifference. She swallowed hard, and thinking it was Everett who had irritated him, she attempted to speak to him. However, Eryx shot her a deadly glare that silenced her instantly.
He picked up his phone from the table and left without a backward glance.
Elizabeth remained frozen in place for a few more minutes before finally exhaling deeply and clutching her chest. "Why is it that monsters keep surrounding Aiyi? And here I am thinking my idol has softened... turns out I was wrong," she lamented inwardly.
"Wait... don’t tell me my idol is actually interested in Aiyi! Damn! My baby is just too beautiful and hot! Attracting big shots left and right!" she squealed inwardly, grabbed her purse, paid all the bills, and left.
...
Inside the car, Zaiyila stared at Everett, who hadn’t smiled at her once since they entered. She bit her lower lip, her eyes glistening with tears.
"I’m sorry... please don’t be mad at me anymore," she whispered, hugging him tightly as she burst into tears.
Everett was stunned for a moment before realizing his mistake. "Damn that bastard... he messed up my head and made me ignore her," he cursed inwardly and gently patted Zaiyila’s back.
"I’m not angry with you. Not at all. I could never be angry with my beautiful Queen," he assured her with a soft smile.
Zaiyila lifted her teary eyes to him. "You’re really not mad at me?" she asked.
Everett nodded.
"Then why... why didn’t you talk to me? You didn’t smile at me, and you didn’t hug me," she whimpered.
Everett chuckled and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I’m talking to you and hugging you now, aren’t I? I’m also smiling now," he replied.
Zaiyila shook her head. "You didn’t—before I hugged you," she muttered.
Everett lifted her into his lap and leaned in for a kiss. They kissed deeply for a long moment before parting.
"Is my Queen satisfied now?" he asked.
Zaiyila shook her head.
"Then what does my Queen want? I’ll do anything to make it happen."
"I want you to tell me that you love me," she demanded.
Everett laughed. "I love you with all my heart. No... I don’t even think I have a heart anymore, because you stole it the moment I laid eyes on you," he whispered and gave her a quick kiss.
Zaiyila blushed, a smile lighting up her face. "Don’t make it sound like I’m a thief. I didn’t steal it," she murmured.
"Mhn, are you sure? If you didn’t steal it, then that means someone else did. I wonder if that person is a woman..." he mused, wearing a thoughtful expression.
Zaiyila’s eyes widened. "How can you say something like that! Do you want another woman to take your heart?!" she shouted and began crying again.
Everett couldn’t hold back his laughter and kissed away her tears. "Your tears are precious, my Queen. Don’t let them fall," he murmured. "And my heart is only yours—there’s no room for any other woman," he added.
Zaiyila smiled through her tears, sniffled, and wiped her face. "Eve, listen to me. You’re not allowed to have any other woman. Don’t even talk about it, and you’re not allowed to assume it either," she blurted, not thinking twice about the consequences.
