Chapter 52: Check if there’s anything
Everett emerged from the bathroom, steam still clinging faintly to his skin from the long, cold bath. Fully dressed, his eyes drifted toward the bed, where Zaiyila slept peacefully. A delicate petal shimmered on her forehead. His brows furrowed.
Then he saw it—her hair. The strands were slowly turning blue.
"Thankfully, I didn’t commit another sin," he mused, "or I might have disrupted her recovery again."
He brushed his hand through her hair, and the hue gently returned to its original black even the beautiful blue petal disappear as well with no traces.
"When you regain your powers and memories, I’ll be the happiest man on Earth—no, in all the worlds," he whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. A glance at the table clock told him it was 6:33 a.m.
"Sleep more, my beautiful Queen," he smiled, then slipped away to prepare breakfast.
...
By the time Zaiyila stirred again, it was already past nine. Her eyes shot open in shock. She leapt from the bed.
"How can I sleep so long!" she gasped, biting her lower lip as she rummaged frantically for her school bag.
"My Queen is awake," Everett announced, stepping through the door with a tray in hand. "I was just about to wake you, do you have a sweet sleep?."
"Eve, I’m late again! I’m definitely going to get a bad record in school," she groaned, finally spotting her bag and making to dash out the room.
But Everett was faster. With a single motion, he scooped her up and set her back on the bed.
"Calm down first," he urged softly.
"I haven’t even bathed yet. Thank goodness you stopped me in time, or I would have embrace you today" she said, about to rise again.
"I already did that," he told her, watching her reaction.
Zaiyila blinked, looked down at herself, and realized she was not only bathed but fully dressed. A bright smile bloomed on her face. She kissed him lightly.
"Thank you. I love you so much! Very, very much!" she grinned, dimples deepening. "I’ll go now—"
But before she could finish, Everett gently pinned her back onto the bed.
"My Queen, tell me—who’s more important to you, your school or me?" he asked, eyes locked onto hers with an intense softness.
"What are you saying? Of course, you’re my life. You’re more important to me than anything. But school matters too. If I start missing classes and arriving late, wouldn’t all your effort be in vain?" she reasoned.
Everett chuckled. "Well, in my opinion, my Queen should do as she pleases. If she wants to quit school, I wouldn’t mind."
Zaiyila looked away, her mood dropping. "I don’t like it, I won’t let your efforts go into waste, don’t bring that up again." She murmured out her thoughts unintentionally.
Everett chuckled. "Ehn, my Queen is mad at me now?"
"I’m not."
"Then why not prove it?"
"Ehn?" she asked, confused.
His gaze lingered on her lips before rising back to meet her eyes.
Blushing, Zaiyila whispered, "Eve, I’m getting more late." She gave him another quick kiss.
"I’m not satisfied," he murmured.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them again, they shimmered with innocent tears, her face soft and irresistible—so endearing that even Everett gulped involuntarily.
"Husband, time is really running," she murmured with such gentle sweetness that Everett’s resolve wavered.
He kissed her hungrily, his hands beginning to roam across her chest.
Zaiyila hadn’t meant to seduce him—only to soften his heart—but now she found herself lost in the moment. Her arms wrapped around his neck, deepening the kiss.
When Everett finally pulled back, he chuckled, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "My Queen, it seems like you don’t really want to go to school, huh?"
Zaiyila’s heart pounded. Her face was flushed, and though she tried to push him away, he didn’t budge. Eventually, she surrendered.
"Alright, I won’t tease my Queen anymore," Everett relented, sitting beside her and drawing the floating tray closer. "Eat something first. After that, I’ll take you to school. But no rushing. If you eat too fast, I’ll tie you to the bed and cancel today’s class, that means you are not going to school today and you will only stay in bed with me today without moving out not even to the bathroom." freёwebnoѵel.com
Zaiyila nodded obediently and began to eat slowly, despite her inward urgency.
Watching her, Everett smiled. "She’s just too pretty," he thought, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"I’m full already," Zaiyila stated, setting the tray aside.
Everett glanced at the food left on her plate, but he knew her well—she never had a large appetite. He simply made a mental note to ensure she ate three solid meals a day... perhaps even six, including snacks.
He carried her gently in one arm, dropped the plate in the kitchen, and headed to the car.
...
Zaiyila slipped quietly into her classroom. Thankfully, no teacher was present. She exhaled in relief and made her way to her seat.
"Aiyi baby! You’re back! Why were you late this morning?" Elizabeth suddenly appeared, her voice filled with curiosity.
"I woke up late," Zaiyila responded with a sigh.
Elizabeth grinned mischievously and plopped down beside her. "Or... you and your husband had a little fun, and you were too exhausted to get out of bed," she teased in a whisper.
Zaiyila blinked at her. "Is it that obvious?"
"Oww baby, you told me yesterday, and now you’re late today. If I check your neck, I bet there’s a hickey."
Zaiyila raised her brow. She was wearing a collared jean dress, the neckline buttoned all the way up. "Check if there’s anything," she challenged.
Elizabeth leaned in eagerly and gently unfastened the top button to peek, but the moment she looked inside, she gasped and recoiled. Her eyes widened in horror, her face draining of color—as if her very soul had just been sucked away.
