Chapter 329: Never Yours To Keep!

Samantha’s eyes glazed ominously at the whispers of his command, and she advanced forward.

Hundreds of vines that took the colors of charcoal, coiled behind her like serpents eager to strike. Their malicious aura could not be ignored, and Ivan knew he was torn between having to fight the woman he loved, or losing his life to the woman who made it a will for him to live.

Her grip was firm against the hilt of her blade, and the only sound she could perceive was Marius’s orders to show no mercy. Her vision was veiled, she could hardly make out the tall figure in front of her, but there were whispers that made the vague figure out to be a nuisance, and the nuisance was also an enemy.

’Show no mercy.’ echoed continuously in her head. freёnovelkiss.com

Despite her threatening approach, Ivan simply remained unarmed and tried to get through to her, "I know you’re still in there, I know you can hear me and I won’t give up on you. Snap out of it! Please!" He implored with sorrow in his eyes, but the woman approaching him refused to be fazed by it.

Instantly, the vines behind her shot towards Ivan with an aggressive speed. It sent the ground cracking from the pressure that had been applied, but with his super agility, Ivan evaded all her attempts to strike him at his weakest spot.

However, the vines were her source of distraction, because the minute Ivan regained his footing, Samantha was already close enough to deliver a fatal strike with her sword.

Marius was sure Ivan would not be able to avoid such an unprecedented attack; she was too close, and her sword was aimed directly at his heart, but to his biggest surprise, Ivan narrowly escaped his doom by blocking the sword with his arm. The blade effortlessly dug into his skin, causing his arm to bleed, but Ivan wasn’t affected by the pain and expertly pushed himself back, maintaining a good amount of distance between the two of them.

He regained his footing and lifted his head to see her coming at him again, her vines taking over as they lunged at him with deadly precision. Their dance of combat unfolded, and Ivan skillfully dodged each attack, refusing to raise a weapon to his beloved.

"Stop! I need you to listen to me!"

Grabbing her arm and swiftly turning her around, he pinned her hand behind her back and kept her close, restraining her struggles.

"I won’t lose you to him. Remember the love we shared, the moments that made us whole! I don’t want to hurt you." He spoke with desperate sincerity, unable to bring himself to even try any of the tactics that would wear her down. She struggled against his restraints, but Ivan had no intention of releasing her.

"Your futile resistance only deepens the pain you feel." Marius taunted, and from the shadows, Ivan could make out a foreboding wind, similar to the ones of a tornado as they approached where he stood with unpredictable speed. He was able to push Samantha out of the way on time, but the swirling wind went right through his body, delivering cuts to his arms, legs, face, and other vital parts that he dropped to his knees, temporarily exhausted from the onslaught.

"It’s pathetic watching you try to get her back when it’s obvious you can’t. I thought your wild cousin would have the decency to warn you about it." Marius’s voice, twisted and haunting, echoed within the space, and in a flash, he was in front of Ivan.

"My turn."

He raised a foot to deliver a powerful sidekick at Ivan’s face, but the vampire had grabbed his leg as though he sensed it. The cuts on his body healed on their own, and his crimson eyes flashed with rage as he tilted his head up to meet the stunned eyes of Marius. Using his trapped foot to his advantage, Marius lifted himself up and delivered a swift kick with his other leg, targeting Ivan’s chest, and that sent the vampire colliding into a wall and bursting through the surface.

The sound of his collision had the fortress vibrating due to the impact, and Marius went after him without delay. He materialized before the wall he had thrown Ivan into, but before he could fish out the vampire from the thick specks of dust, a clawed hand penetrated through the dust and struck Marius before he could react! Deliberately tearing through his shirt and clawing at his skin.

"ARGH!!" Marius growled as his back was slammed into the wall, but he was quick to switch their position, slamming the vampire instead. He delivered a blow that Ivan skillfully missed, but the result of his punch ended up on the wall, irreparably damaged from the impact.

"I have been waiting for this day for centuries to come, and I won’t allow some nosy vampire to get in my way! You are just like your parents! You derive pleasure in owning what was never yours to keep! And Samantha was never yours! She was mine before her soul got trapped in that Orb! And your family took her away!! She is my property, do you get that?"

"Do not speak of my wife like she’s some used product!" Ivan’s eyes darkened, and he gave Marius a head-to-head collision, forcing the demon to free from his clutches. Every path they battled left a ruin that could bring the building down into crumbles and dust, but they did not slow down in their attacks.

Meanwhile, Tobias and Cassian were dealing with the guards on the ground floor, and the soldiers they had brought with them targeted the ones outside.

Duncan hardly lifted a finger whenever he spotted a guard, he was almost untouchable, and those who dared to still try would be killed with a mere flick of his wrist. While Caddel had gone to get the children, Duncan secretly planted the bombs he had deactivated earlier within every corner of the fortress.

"Let’s see how you like your gift given to you in full."
