Chapter 369: Destroying The Symbol

"Forget it! No one leaves here alive! Lest you forget this is my domain! What rights do you claim to call it your turf!" Marius spat, a cynical laugh escaping his throat.

At this point, Ivan had dropped to the floor, placing Samantha gently behind him. What Marius didn’t expect at all was for Samantha to unexpectedly sprint in the opposite direction, like she was heading somewhere, and he gritted his teeth, wondering what those two were up to.

"GET BACK HERE!!"

"She can hear you, you don’t have to raise your voice like a mad man." Ivan answered for his wife, a taunting smile curving his lips, "the only problem is, she won’t listen to your commands this time around. You’re done!"

"What are you two up to?? I will fucking kill you!!" And with an inexplicable rage, Marius charged first with his fist poised, ready to ruin the face he envied as much as he hated seeing it, and Ivan swiftly sidestepped his attack, grabbing him by his coat and giving him a swing before tossing him into one of the columns, and that vibrated the vicinity due to the impact.

"I’m afraid you won’t be able to fulfill your desire of ending me," Ivan rolled up his sleeves as he approached where Marius struggled to rise, "cause I will send you back to hell first!"

"I’d like to see you try!" And a barrage of blows was sent Ivan’s way. He countered the attack with his hand and drove a kick to Marius’s abdomen, sending him flying back, but Ivan didn’t give him time to catch his breath and immediately started unleashing a series of deadly blows and kicks to the point they tumbled into a different arena.

Marius stumbled back and fell to the ground, groaning in pain, but his eyes widened when he saw Ivan leapt with the help of his wings, about to land yet another blow on him. He quickly rolled out of the way, and Ivan’s fist connected to the ground, creating a crater. He jerked his head to where Marius had stood up, already stumbling away as if to escape his fate.

"Running?" Ivan scoffed as he withdrew his hand from the ground, "thought you were better than that. Didn’t expect you to be such a coward, Marius. Sigh... what are we going to do now?" Ivan’s haunting voice followed Marius who was trying his best to keep as much distance as he could from the vampire.

He still wondered how the vampire managed to get inside the domain, and as though he just read Marius’s mind, Ivan started to approach the stumbling figure.

"There is something you should know about me already." Ivan cracked his knuckles, "there’s nowhere in the world you can hide from me, it’s impossible to hide forever. Once I make it my mission to find someone, I always fulfill it, no matter where they run to."

"And that will lead to your end!" Marius seethed with rage, "haven’t you ever been told never to count your chickens before they hatch?? I will kill you and I will make sure your wife witnesses how I drain the life force from your bloody eyes!"

With an angry roar, Marius’s wings emerged from his back, spreading out effortlessly, and Ivan was so stupefied by the sight that he didn’t prepare himself for Marius’s next attack. In one swift move, Marius wings leapt him from the ground and straight at Ivan, but instead of landing a blow like he normally would, about fifty golden tiny spires in the form of a weapon materialized in front of him, and with a wave of his hand, he sent them straight at Ivan whose reflexes skillfully evade the incoming lethal spires.

However, Marius had only used that to his distraction, because when Ivan finally faced the demon, Marius’s horn was plunged deep into his chest. He had Ivan’s back against a column, thrusting his big horn deep into his chest like a bull, and Ivan clenched his teeth from the pain.

Blood trickled out from the spot where he was pierced, staining his shirt, but that wasn’t enough to keep him down. He elbowed the horn that was still fixed to his chest, breaking it off Marius’s head, and he swiftly grabbed Marius by his wings, flinging him into the air and going after him.

He delivered a powerful kick to Marius’s abdomen mid-air, and gravity came pulling, sending Marius crashing down hard from the impact of the kick. With his wings siding his flight, Ivan pulled out the horn he had broken, throwing it aside. He was still bleeding from that spot, but he couldn’t lower his guard, he needed to buy Samantha more time for her to destroy this building, cause that was the only way they’d free the souls prisoned here. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm

Marius rose from the floor, his wings twitching in pure irritation. He felt his horn which had been broken from his head, leaving him with only spared horn, and he leapt off the ground, facing Ivan who remained mid-air.

"I commend your skills." He uttered, "but I must remind you, I can never be killed. Tear me up into pieces like last time, and I will still come back. Burn my body if you must, and I’ll still return. I will haunt you even if it is the last thing I do, Ivan. I will continue to be your worst nightmare!"

"All you’ve been doing is dropping threats, Marius." Ivan mocked, "be the demon you are, and prove it." He beckoned Marius over, and the fight to the death continued mid-air.

Meanwhile, at the top of the building, it was shockingly windy. Alistair’s spirit carefully led Samantha to the symbol that was carved on the ground, and she dropped to her knees.

Ivan told her to destroy this symbol, but how is she supposed to destroy something like this? The symbols were ancient, and they glowed ominously, as if they powered the building itself. Probably when she destroys it, the glowing would stop, and the souls here would be set free.

"I’m going to free you from this place, I promise." Samantha looked at Alistair who didn’t seem to doubt her in the slightest of ways. She had a lot to say to him, she barely knew where to start, and how she wished she could bring him to the normal world, with everyone.

"I can’t bring you back to life, I can’t take you back with me to our world, but I’m going to do my best so that your soul is free from this place. I just need to figure out how to destroy these symbols."

And she dropped to her knees. Surely Ivan wouldn’t tell her to do it if she wasn’t capable, she just has to figure out how.

"Stop! Stop what you’re doing!" Carmela’s voice made Samantha jerk her head to the direction where it was coming from, and in no time, she could see Carmela’s spirit hurrying towards her.

"The dead becomes harmless in the face of the living." Samantha uttered when Carmela’s spirit ran through her. The witch had the attempt to strangle her to death, but ended up running right through her.

"Marius probably told you so many lies, Caramela, but it’s a good thing you’re here." Samantha uttered with a hum, "cause in his absence, you can watch in silence as I ruin the very foundation of his deceit!"

"No! Stop! Wait! I don’t want to go to the other side, don’t do this to me!" Carmela dropped to her knees, pleading with her head to the ground, "I don’t want to go there! They’ll have no mercy on me from the other side! Don’t do this."

"You killed innocent children!" Samantha snapped, her eyes teary with rage. "you hypnotized your people and made them put up a war with us, you kidnapped Ali, you hurt my husband and you hurt Viney! It’s too late to plead for forgiveness. You deserve every single punishment you’re going to face on the other side."

"No, please!"

"Alistair."

Grasping Samantha’s silent message, Alistair moved forward and immediately held Carmela, covering her mouth with his palm. Her screams for mercy were muffled, and she watched with horrific eyes as Samantha placed her right palm on the glowing symbols.

She closed her eyes fervently, following her heart.

"With a raven soul..." she whispered in a barely audible voice, her tone like a haunting melody. "..dark and deep, I fear no evil. From today, the shadow is mine, and so is this valley."

Her lips continued to move, silently uttering words she barely knew the meaning to, and just like that, there was a crack on the spot where she placed her hand.

Samantha didn’t stop reciting these words until the cracks grew bigger, spreading, and the wind fluttered her hair wildly. Whichever symbol came in contact with the crack, their ominous glow faded without delay, and in a matter of minutes, all the symbols lost their light.
