Chapter 30: Tears of Joy

The writer looked at Charlotte in compassionate eyes.

She was on the verge of tears, unable to believe that the character she had imagined for years had finally come to life.

"I might not have the authority to choose the actor," Nina said confidently, "but all I can say is ... I think you would be perfect for my Lena."

Tatiana, the vice director, nodded in agreement. "I don’t have much to say because your performance has exceeded my expectations, Mrs. Dawson."

Charlotte, still immersed in the character’s emotions, tried her best to wipe away the tears from her eyes, but a bright smile had already formed on her lips.

"Thank you," said Charlotte politely.

Their compliments boosted her confidence and silenced the doubts that had been filling her head for the past few days.

Logan clapped again and grinned. "I rarely compliment actors during auditions, but right now my mouth would itch all day if I didn’t say this, you’ve made me want to see this movie right now."

The producer, Diego West, couldn’t help but smile. "We can’t officially accept you yet, but just so you know, you’re definitely our top candidate."

"What do you think, Mr. Sullivan?" Diego asked Damon, who had been silent the entire time.

Damon leaned back in his chair. He rarely smiled at work, but when his eyes landed on Charlotte, the corner of his mouth lifted. "She’s perfect."

As the only one who knew about Damon and Charlotte’s relationship, Tatiana could only sigh and think to herself, "Our boss’s heart has been stolen."

"I think that’s all, Charlotte." Logan smiled. "We’ll contact you later with the results."

Charlotte nodded. Her heart filled with happiness and a sense of relief, but she knew she had to remain calm in front of the others.

Their words had meant a lot to her, but she couldn’t celebrate this moment before she got the results.

"Thank you for your time," Charlotte said politely.

She gave them a smile before leaving the room.

"How’s the audition going?" the staff greeted her as she stepped out the door. She hadn’t asked any of the other candidates that question, but she made an exception for Charlotte.

"It’s great," Charlotte smiled. "Thank you for asking."

She no longer covered her face with a mask, so the other auditioners could be sure that she was the ’Charlotte Dawson’.

People auditioning for the lead role could only sigh, knowing they didn’t stand a chance if Charlotte made a comeback.

But instead of being upset, they were incredibly happy to see Charlotte again after such a long time.

"Charlotte! Are you making a comeback?" a man shouted from across the room.

Suddenly, two women with a pen approached her. "Charlotte, we’ve been becoming your fans since your first appearance on screen. Would you sign our shirts?"

"Charlotte, why did you decide to make a comeback?"

"What about your married life? Didn’t you say you wanted to focus on building your family?"

"Charlotte ..."

People began to surround her, bombarding her with so many questions that Charlotte’s head hurt.

She was glad so many people still recognized her and hoped for her return, but this crowd was definitely too much for someone who had been cooped up in the house for years.

"I appreciate your enthusiasm, but can you please give me some space?" Charlotte tried to politely push them away, but they only pushed harder.

As her back was pressed against the door, it suddenly opened from the inside. Charlotte braced herself for a fall, but instead she bumped into someone’s body.

The familiar scent of cedarwood filled her nose, making her feel safe and comfortable.

"If you don’t step back, security will escort you out," Damon warned them. His voice was commanding and firm.

For some reason, the crowd didn’t have the courage to disobey his words, as if something unpleasant would happen to them if they didn’t comply.

But it was natural for them to feel that way. As an Alpha, his presence alone was enough to make other werewolves freeze, let alone ordinary humans like them.

The crowd stepped back immediately, clearing a path for Charlotte to walk through.

"Wait for me in my office," Damon whispered before she left.

Charlotte just nodded in response, then made her way through the crowd.

When she reached the elevator, Charlotte leaned against the wall and took a deep breath.

She had always been able to handle large crowds, but after staying at home for five years, she felt overwhelmed by having so many people around her.

Now she wondered if she could really be a celebrity again.

No, stop it.

Charlotte immediately tried to push all those negative thoughts out of her mind.

If people didn’t doubt her ability and credibility, why would she do this to herself?

Charlotte straightened her back as the elevator stopped at the top floor. The executive receptionist greeted her immediately, "Good afternoon, Mrs. Dawson."

Charlotte was surprised because she hadn’t expected the receptionist to greet her so quickly, as if she had been waiting for her arrival.

"May I go to Mr. Sullivan’s office?" asked Charlotte hesitantly.

The receptionist—Zoey Adler—smiled. "Of course, Mrs. Dawson. Mr. Sullivan told me to let you in whenever you come here."

Charlotte laughed softly. "Thank you for the information."

Charlotte really wanted to hide from the others as soon as possible, so she immediately went into Damon’s office.

But to her surprise, there was a large bucket of flowers and boxes of chocolates, waiting for her behind the door.

Charlotte froze for a moment, her eyes widening at the sight. She hadn’t expected to see something so ... sweet.

She walked over to the table and picked up a card from under the flowers. The words were written in handwriting, which made it seem more genuine.

For someone who shines brighter than these flowers. Thank you for your hard work. - D

Charlotte’s heart fluttered. She had received many gifts from Julian before, but Damon’s gift felt so different.

The gifts weren’t a symbol of apology, but a genuine gesture of appreciation.

The gifts were so sweet and beautiful that they brought tears to Charlotte’s eyes.

Is this what they call tears of joy? she thought to herself.
