Chapter 41: Charlotte’s First Talk Show

The news of rogue werewolves had spread to all supernatural beings in Northbridge City.

The Nocturnal Order arranged patrols around the city to ensure no humans were harmed by the rogue werewolves. But if any humans were injured or killed, the Nocturnal Order would have no choice but to cover it up, claiming it was the work of robbers or wild dogs.

"I thought my life would be peaceful as long as I stayed away from the front lines," Louis groaned, complaining because, for the past two days, he had been going back and forth between the Nocturnal Order and human authorities to deal with the rogue werewolf situation.

Since he was responsible for acting as the bridge between werewolves and humans, Louis had been working the hardest to resolve the crisis.

"You’re just handling papers and data." Diana rolled her eyes. "What’s so bad about that?"

"If it’s so easy, why don’t you do it instead?" Louis banged his head against the table, causing some papers to fall to the floor. He let out a soft whimper. "I couldn’t even go with my wife to visit Haven’s new kindergarten."

Diana scoffed. "I became a hunter so I wouldn’t have to deal with all those papers."

Charlotte sighed. She had listened to them argue more than five times in just two hours.

She picked up the scattered papers from the floor and placed them back on the table. "Louis, why don’t you take a break for a moment?"

"Yes, just go take a break. I can even hear your whining from my office."

Damon walked into the living room and then turned to Charlotte. "Do you have a minute? I want to talk to you about something."

Oh, finally!

An excuse to leave the living room and escape from those two troublemakers.

"Yes, of course." Charlotte followed Damon to his office. "What’s wrong? Did you find hate comments about me?"

"Hate comments? No, Charlotte. There are no hate comments about you." Damon continued, "Actually, no one hates you."

Once they stepped into his office, Damon said, "Abbie from The Night Show has invited you to her show next week. Her show has high ratings, and I think it would be the perfect opportunity for you to officially return to the showbiz industry."

Aside from starring in movies, actors and actresses could boost their careers by appearing on talk shows.

Charlotte hesitated for a moment. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"

Damon leaned against his desk, arms crossed. "Of course. The Night Show isn’t just any talk show. It’s one of the most popular late-night programs, and Abbie is known for handling her guests well. This is the perfect chance to reintroduce yourself to the public on your own terms."

Charlotte bit her lip, thinking it over. It had been years since she had appeared on a talk show. She didn’t even sure she would be such an interesting guest on the talk show.

"What if they bring up my past?" she asked quietly. "I’m just ... starting to get tired of talking about me and Julian."

At first, she had wanted to share the truth about their relationship with the public to clear her name. But now that the topic kept resurfacing, Charlotte was beginning to feel uncomfortable.

Every day, the first notification she saw upon waking up was about her and Julian. Social media was flooded with their story once again.

She knew people meant well by spreading awareness about her experience, but in the end, it only served as a constant reminder of Julian.

Julian. Julian. Julian.

Ugh. Charlotte felt like she might throw up if she heard that name one more time.

Damon sighed, stepping closer. "I understand," he said gently. "That’s why I’ll make sure they don’t bring up anything you don’t want to talk about."

"They’ll provide the questions in advance, and if there’s anything you’re uncomfortable with, they won’t ask it. You’re in control here, Charlotte."

"Okay." Charlotte nodded. "I’ll do it. Besides, it will be such a great opportunity to promote my up-coming movie."

As a week passed, Charlotte finally walked into the Night Show studio. After reviewing the questions, she decided to briefly address her past relationship but made it clear that she didn’t want Julian’s name mentioned.

"Charlotte, you’ll be on in five minutes," said Chloe, her new manager.

Charlotte nodded, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. It had been a while since she’d been in front of a camera, and though she felt a bit anxious, she was determined to stay composed.

As the countdown ticked away, Chloe gave her a reassuring smile. "You’re going to do great."

Charlotte offered a small smile in return, appreciating the support.

The lights brightened, and the studio’s energy shifted as she was ushered onto the stage. Cameras flashed, and the host, Abbie, greeted her warmly, making Charlotte feel a little more at ease.

"Welcome, Charlotte! It’s such a pleasure to have you here," Abbie said, flashing her a bright smile. "How have you been? It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen you in the spotlight."

Charlotte smiled, adjusting her seat slightly as she faced the host. "Thank you for having me, Abbie," she said, "It feels a bit strange, being back here, but it’s also exciting. I’ve been doing well—just taking some time for myself."

Abbie nodded, clearly understanding. "We all need that sometimes. So, let’s dive in. You’ve been out of the public eye for a while now, and the world has had a lot to say about your personal life. I know you’ve gone through a lot. How do you feel about all of that?"

Her voice sounded sincere and warm, unlike the reporters who only wanted to dig into her personal life to make money for themselves.

Charlotte had known Abbie for a long time, but after she got married, they lost touch because Julian always controlled her phone.

"It hasn’t been easy," she admitted. "But I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process. Sometimes, it’s hard not to blame myself for not getting out sooner, but I’ve come to realize that it’s all part of my journey. You can’t change the past, but you can control how you move forward."

Abbie nodded thoughtfully. "That’s such a powerful perspective, Charlotte. It takes a lot of strength to recognize that and even more to speak about it publicly."

Charlotte gave a small, appreciative smile. "It’s not easy, but I feel ready to start fresh, to focus on what’s next."

Abbie gave her an understanding look. "That’s such a healthy approach, Charlotte. It’s not always easy, but it’s important. Now, let’s talk about something more fun. I’ve heard you’ve been working on some new projects lately. Care to share what you’ve been up to?"

Charlotte’s eyes brightened at the shift in topic. "Yes, actually! I’ve been starring in a movie."

"As you may have seen on the internet, the movie title is Broken Bond. That ..."

The interview continued, and Charlotte gradually became more comfortable with Abbie.

The host was incredibly kind—she never asked inappropriate questions and made sure Charlotte felt safe throughout their conversation.

"Charlotte, this is just out of curiosity, but is there someone who has helped you cope with everything going on around you?" Abbie asked.

Charlotte gave her a small smile. She knew exactly what Abbie was referring to, she was definitely talking about Damon defending her at the press conference.

The reporters at the event couldn’t stop romanticizing the moment, painting Damon as a chivalrous protector shielding her from all the harsh questions.

Instead of trying to deny it, Charlotte decided to go along with it while keeping her answer subtle.

"Yes," she admitted with a soft chuckle. "There is someone."

Abbie leaned in with interest. "Oh? Would you like to share who it is?" freёwebnoѵel.com

Charlotte chuckled, shaking her head. "Not yet. But let’s just say ... he’s been a great support system for me."

"He is the one who helped to get away from my ex-husband, and give me protection so I won’t be afraid to go outside again," she continued. "For a long time, I felt like I was trapped in my own world, afraid of what people would say, afraid of being judged. But he made me realize that I deserve to live without fear."

Abbie nodded with a warm smile. "That’s beautiful, Charlotte. Everyone deserves someone who makes them feel safe and valued."

Charlotte laughed softly. "Yes. And I’m really grateful for him."

The audience clapped, clearly moved by her words.

Abbie then shifted the topic. "Now, before we wrap up, is there anything you’d like to say to those who might be going through a similar situation as you did?"

Charlotte took a deep breath. "To anyone out there who feels trapped or powerless ... please know that you’re not alone. There are people who want to help you, who care about you. And no matter how impossible it seems, you can find your way out. You deserve happiness, and you deserve to be loved."

The room fell into a thoughtful silence before another wave of applause filled the studio. Abbie reached over and gave Charlotte’s hand a comforting squeeze.

"Thank you for sharing your story, Charlotte. You are an inspiration."
