Chapter 258: Battle in the midnight

The tower slammed into the flying ship, ramming into it so fast and suddenly that it was shattered. Wood broke and crunched as metals screeched while they twisted.

The noise alerted the whole camp. The other flying ships turned, but what they saw was a black blur speeding downward before disappearing.

But Atrox wasn’t trying to hide his presence anymore. His tower lit up in red, and thick beams of fire shot out at the flying ships, but they had activated their shields now, and he could only push them back a bit.

In all this, they did not seem to see the man hanging in the air far above them, flying on a stone platform. Takoda raised his hands, spreading them wide, and the two rings he wore on his right and left fingers began to glow.

A formless energy spread between his hands and continued to float upward, enlarging like a pool of liquid as it did so. More formless energy joined it until six hovered up there in the sky.

And then, from those pools, large chunks of stone began to appear—stones as large as Atrox’s tower, longer too. It was the spatial ring that Takoda prepared for situations when he was in places where there were no stones or rocks.

More and more began to fall, hovering around Takoda. So much so that soldiers below had begun to take notice of him as his stones cast shadows. A flying ship swung his way, but suddenly, Atrox’s tower disappeared and reappeared beside Takoda, shooting out a single powerful beam that destroyed its shield and sent the first flying ship down in a fall of flames.

"You can do what you want now, Takoda," Atrox said.

Takoda pointed below him, and the stones around him began to squirm, breaking off into clumps as big as a head. Then those clumps spread above the army like straight stars. All the while, Atrox kept shooting the ships that got closer.

Below, the army was in chaos. Knights were running about, shouting. Light lit up the camp, and smoke was coming from one section as fire began to burn.

More flying ships began to take to the air to fight Atrox and Takoda.

The chief grunted. "You still won’t show yourself, warlord?"

All the stones lit up with an illusory green light, and then they began to fall like rain. But unlike rain, they fell with a boom of speed, as if they were close to breaking the sound barrier. The air whined as the stones reached the ground in a blink.

The effect was devastating. Since the attack was from a Master Knight, it was more powerful than usual. The ground exploded, and humans and monsters were crushed in a wave of debris.

Atrox saw most people dodging the attack or shielding against it with their powers, but those were in the Errant rank. Knights and Squires had it tough.

Atrox’s voice sounded inside the tower. "Do you see now? Only those who are Errant Knights are not struggling to survive. Staying at Knight rank is good, but only if there are no troubles!"

He didn’t need to explain further to Slya and Tiber because they understood what he meant. They focused back on the battle that Takoda was fighting.

All the stones had reached the ground, causing damage. But then suddenly, as if the stones had received a signal, the clumps below began to explode.

Dust rose from the ground with each explosion. The army ran, avoiding the stones that sent sharp, small, and fast-moving debris toward them.

But Takoda was far from done. He wasn’t satisfied with the destruction he caused, so he brought his hands together in a clap. The dust that hung over the camp seemed to freeze and then began to join together. Small stones came out of human bodies and broken tents, forming back into a large clump of stone.

Then those stones began to join together as Takoda gave them a taste of their own medicine, creating golems! The ground shook as the giant stones walked, their hands and feet jerking as if they were being controlled by strings. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Takoda was having too much fun smashing and stepping on anything that stood in his way through those golems.

Atrox suddenly shouted, "Incoming!"

At the same time, he swung his tower in the direction of Thrain’s camp and blasted the fast-approaching figure with a beam of fire. The attack slammed into the figure, but its speed was still impressive, and it cut through Atrox’s beam without trouble.

A few seconds later, he was about to ram into the tower, but Atrox disappeared, and it blurred away, missing Takoda as well before making a turn.

He hovered there, his face narrowed in anger. He was covered in layers of metal as if he were wearing two sets of armor. Warlord Vorath sneered. "I should have known you would sneak in to attack while I was away, but I thought you were too much of a coward to do so! This is a mistake I wouldn’t have made back home!"

Atrox’s reply was to create an arc of fire so big it slammed into Vorath before he finished his little speech. The warlord raised his hand, and a sheet of metal parried the fire arc, shrugging it away from him without effort. "This is also good! I won’t let you leave this place alive. I will turn it into your grave."

Below them, more ships were rising, and the army was reforming once they saw their leader.

Takoda turned to Vorath. "Your opponent is me, warlord."

"Not much time, Takoda. But I will let you know!"

Then Atrox shot down again, using the same move he used in the beginning, and slammed his tower into a ship, punching through the whole thing.

His tower spun, and he used his fire like a chain, spinning with it. The whip of fire cracked against the ships, flickering against them before Atrox suddenly thought of an idea and disappeared.

Only to appear directly beside a ship!
