Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 69: Nightmare
However, she had no idea exactly when this was.
’What year is this?’
She tried hard to recall what she had learned.
But unfortunately, she realized her knowledge of history was far too poor.
’Dammit, why didn’t I pay more attention in history class?’
She cursed herself in frustration.
Song Qingya felt like a lost child.
A barrier stood between her and the surrounding crowd.
No matter how she tried to blend in, she couldn’t break through it.
And Fei Jin seemed just as out of place.
Although he appeared calm on the surface, his pain and bewilderment were impossible to hide.
Even though he didn’t speak, Song Qingya could feel a deathly stillness radiating from him.
She knew that the Fei Jin before her was no longer the person she was familiar with.
Fei Jin walked into a large compound.
Song Qingya followed close behind, her heart filled with unease.
She didn’t know what this place meant to them, nor what would happen next.
The guard on duty straightened his back and gave him a salute—
"Commander, sir!"
Looking at the high-spirited young soldier before him, Fei Jin couldn’t help but feel a surge of emotion.
’He got promoted again.’
Song Qingya smiled for the first time since entering the dream.
Knowing that he couldn’t hear a word she said in this dream world.
She felt free to start commenting on Fei Jin’s every move.
After completing the salute, the young soldier returned to his post.
’He’s still the same as ever, not a hint of an arrogant leader about him.’
At this thought, Song Qingya found herself liking the man before her even more.
Pushing open the office door, Fei Jin stepped into the familiar room, expertly repeating the habitual actions of all these years.
Just then, an orderly came in, intending to help tidy up the office.
But Fei Jin gently waved him off, stopping his movements and signaling for him to go rest.
He organized the files and various office supplies on the desk himself.
Even the blanket on the field cot was folded into a perfect square.
And at that moment, on some strange impulse, Song Qingya sat down on the freshly folded blanket.
Although she was just a shadow-like presence now, she still maintained her human habits, completely unworried about wrinkling the meticulously folded blanket.
’Honestly, you always have to do everything yourself.’
Song Qingya complained in her heart.
She had reminded Fei Jin many times that he should learn to let others do things for him.
But he always said he was used to handling everything personally and didn’t want to trouble his subordinates.
Seeing that she couldn’t persuade Fei Jin, Song Qingya could only sigh helplessly.
For the entire afternoon, she silently watched Fei Jin, noticing that he maintained a perfectly upright posture, completely absorbed in the work before him.
’I really don’t know how you do it,’ Song Qingya marveled to herself. ’You always sit so straight. If it were me, I probably would have collapsed onto a sofa, unable to move, long ago.’
Watching him flip through the documents page by page, meticulously checking and signing them...
Song Qingya realized he didn’t even have time to look up for a sip of water.
Although his position had been elevated, the accompanying workload seemed even heavier.
’Why aren’t you eating? Or at least have a sip of water.’
She muttered to herself under her breath.
She recalled the old days, when she would always make some dessert to bring to Fei Jin before getting off work.
’Has he been too busy lately?’
Song Qingya thought to herself, her brow furrowing slightly.
’You really make a person worry sick. It looks like in the future, I’ll have to find a way to sit in your office and watch you eat all the pastries before I’m allowed to leave!’
In her half-dreaming state, plans formed in her mind; she decided to start making more jujube paste cakes as soon as she was fully awake.
Finally, after a long period of hard work, Fei Jin completed all his tasks.
Song Qingya had thought he would choose to go for a walk to relieve the day’s fatigue.
However, the reality was unexpected—when he finished writing, the room fell into an unusual silence.
Fei Jin sat there quietly, motionless for a long time.
Then, he suddenly stood up, quickly pulled open a drawer to retrieve a small, exquisite box, and walked out the door without hesitation.
Snowflakes were now drifting down from the sky.
’Wait, are you leaving now? You’re not even wearing a coat!’
Song Qingya didn’t have time to think. She jumped off the bed almost as a reflex and rushed outside.
It was only after running a few steps that she suddenly realized she was no longer an ordinary person who had to rely on her feet to move, but could float freely in the air.
She rushed with all her might toward the exit.
What met her eyes was a blinding white.
The snow outside was falling even more heavily.
Large snowflakes landed on Fei Jin’s hair, instantly turning the originally jet-black strands to silver.
’Fei Jin, what on earth are you doing?’
Song Qingya saw Fei Jin take something out of the box and raise it.
’No, you can’t... Fei Jin, don’t do something stupid! Put down what’s in your hand, put it down!’
Finally, in a wave of terror, Song Qingya saw clearly that the object in his hand was his service pistol.
The body of the gun was even engraved with an intricate pattern.
Near the grip was the character "Fei."
She wanted to scream, to try and wake the man in front of her, but she realized she couldn’t make a single sound. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Suddenly, a deafening "BANG" rang in her ears.
A spray of blood burst forth with the tremendous sound.
The guards in the courtyard heard the sudden gunshot and all rushed over in a panic.
"What happened?! Commander!"
they asked, panicked.
The compound was instantly thrown into chaos.
Everyone was so frightened by the scene before them they didn’t know what to do.
Yet amid the clamor, Song Qingya stood frozen in place.
It was as if everything around her had lost its sound.
Her pupils reflected that suffocating splash of red.
Scalding blood flowed slowly.
Spreading across the pristine white snow.
Faced with this scene, Song Qingya felt her entire body go weak, and her legs finally gave out as she collapsed into the snow.
The swirling snow seemed endless.
’Fei Jin, don’t go, please don’t go... Why...’
Tears blurred her eyes.
Song Qingya was trapped deep in the nightmare, unable to pull herself out.
Her mind was filled with the image of Fei Jin standing in the snow, service pistol in hand.
Why...
Her tears gradually soaked the pillow.
"Qingya, what’s wrong?"
Fei Jin was woken by the sound of sobbing beside him.
He had always been a light sleeper, and he’d already sensed something was wrong when Song Qingya started talking in her sleep.
After turning on the light, Fei Jin saw that Song Qingya’s eyes were shut tight, but the sound of her crying was intermittent.
"Qingya, wake up. Qingya?"
Seeing her crying so heartbreakingly, Fei Jin’s own heart clenched.
He watched her with concern, momentarily at a loss for what to do. Not daring to wake her abruptly, he could only lean down and call to her softly in her ear, "Qingya, wake up. I’m here. I’m right here. I haven’t gone anywhere."
Hearing the man’s deep, warm, comforting voice, Song Qingya slowly opened her eyes.
