Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 674: Please Be Okay
Letting the umbrella rest between the juncture of his neck and shoulder, He Juan tipped a pill onto his palm and tossed it into his mouth, swallowing it dry without water.
Chen Youzhi’s expression abruptly shifted into one of alarm as he recognized the small bottle in He Juan’s hand, which contained the medicine for his headache.
"Boss!" He raised his voice to rival the howling rain. "You... you’ve already taken the medicine earlier and also the rut suppressor—"
"It’s fine, Chen’er," He Juan cut him off, his tone leaving no room for rebuttal. If one looked closer, they would notice that his lips were devoid of any color, and his knuckles were white from the force he used to grab onto the umbrella handle. "I need it today."
The black umbrella accentuated He Juan’s already somber demeanor, rendering his complexion even paler. Chen Youzhi couldn’t help but be worried, especially after watching the news forecast this morning that predicted possible snow at midnight. Snowstorm was the last thing Chen Youzhi had ever wanted to happen, as it reminded him too much of that tragic day when He Juan lost his brother.
And who knows? The same thought might very well be running in He Juan’s mind right now, hence the need for him to take medicine twice the recommended dose.
Ye Qiu, who had been observing the ominous building before them, chimed in with uncertainty, "XIU, does this building remind you of something...?" She had no idea that she had inadvertently helped He Juan end the difficult conversation.
"Mn," He Juan acknowledged with a subtle nod. "It looks like a research facility, but..." he paused for a while to choose his words carefully. "...I’m pretty sure I’ve never been here before."
Ye Qiu agreed, "This might be one of the oldest ones."
For He Juan, who had destroyed a lot of these facilities, and Ye Qiu, who had grown up in that forsaken place, they could easily spot a few similarities in the building’s structure. Like many others, the two six-story buildings before them were built in a U shape, linked by an airway corridor. One was reserved specially for the experimented people’s living quarters, while the other was for the staff and laboratories. This building, however, bore traces of being weathered by time, evident in the peeling paint, wild veins creeping over the walls, and the tall grass growing unattended.
He Juan distributed the tasks with a determined tone, "Let’s split up. We will be able to find Mu Yuze faster this way. I will take the east. Chen’er, you take the west. Zhong Yun, wait in the car until the police arrive and give them an update. Ye Qiu—"
Ye Qiu reassured him, "Don’t worry, Ge. I know what to do. I will come find you after I’m done."
He Juan gave a nod. He met Chen Youzhi’s grave eyes, who clearly looked reluctant to let him move alone, but before the man could say anything, He Juan beat him to it, "I need your help, Chen’er. Please find him as soon as possible," he implored softly. "That’s the only way I can be okay."
When he put it like that, what other choice did Chen Youzhi have but to comply? He swallowed all the unspoken concerns back to his stomach and nodded solemnly.
"Let’s go," He Juan declared, taking the lead to rush toward the building.
The fierce wind howled around him, almost drowning the ringing beside his ears. It was actually useless to carry an umbrella because the gale kept pushing it back, causing He Juan to be drenched from head to toe. As it was quickly becoming an annoyance, He Juan abandoned it altogether and sprinted toward the entrance.
Mu Yuze, his heart called out as he pushed through creaky doors to enter the dark hallway. In an instant, the sound of the downpour was muffled a bit, and what echoed loudly in the dimness was his uneven breathing and the frantic rhythm of his heartbeat.
Mu Yuze. He scanned the surroundings before deciding to move forward with heightened alertness. Eventually, he reached a metal door which required an identity card scan. It was then that He Juan knew he had entered the building for the researchers. Much to his surprise, the door yielded easily, confirming that someone was here before him. He had chosen the correct path!
Sucking in a breath, He Juan attempted to keep himself in control as he ventured deeper into the building.
Mu Yuze, Mu Yuze, Mu Yuze.
Please... please be okay. If something happens to you, I—
He Juan halted on his tracks and raised his head sharply. Just now, he seemed to have heard some noises. Holding his breath, he strained his ears to listen and... there was really a commotion somewhere above him!
Looking around, He Juan spotted the stairs, and he rushed there without delay.
***
A muffled thud echoed as a large body crashed to the ground, unconscious with his eyes rolling back to his skull.
Mu Yuze staggered a bit, but he swiftly regained his balance and glared sinisterly at the Alphas around him, his breathing ragged. Below his feet were four unconscious Alpha, while four others were still standing, gawking at him in disbelief.
"Anyone else?" he challenged, though in fact he was in an extremely dire situation right now.
These loathsome Alphas had never ceased to release their repugnant pheromones to suppress him. While Mu Yuze truly felt disgusted, the same couldn’t be said to his inner omega who was getting increasingly weaker under the relentless assault. Alpha’s pheromones were designed to conquer, after all. Not to mention there were eight of them here.
It was truly a wonder how Mu Yuze could still remain standing until now.
He had to be grateful for the Alphas’ innate arrogance, thinking that they would be able to take him one by one. And Mu Yuze proved them wrong by kicking their asses to the ground. The adrenaline brought by the battle managed to mitigate the lingering effects of Luo Xuan’s pheromones to some degree, but Mu Yuze was afraid it would be tougher for him from now on... because he could feel his energy dwindling, and there was no way the four remaining Alphas would be so stupid to let them be defeated by an Omega who couldn’t even use his hands.
And sure enough, the four of them exchanged glances, a sinister gleam flashing in their eyes.
"Ptui!" One of them spat out in disdain. "We let you off easy because you’re an omega, but if this is how you behave, then don’t blame us for being ruthless!"
In the next moment, the concentration of alpha’s pheromones in the air spiked significantly, causing Mu Yuze’s vision to blur and his knees to soften. Simultaneously, the four of them pounced on him at once!
