Card Apprentice Daily Log-Chapter 2795: Memory Summoning & Void Separation Barrier Array Formations
Date: Unspecified
Time: Unspecified
Location: Myriad Realms, Card World, Southern Region, Blossom District, Three Mischief Encampment
The Supreme Leader and Emissary of Light glanced at the field below from atop the blood cloud. It was once filled with their bustling grand forces, but now all that was left were rotting bones and tainted armors of the undead army, and the demigod worshippers were captured by their memory versions of Matron.
Unable to find the original Matron, they looked at the memory versions of Matrons below and demanded an explanation. However, in response, Matron’s memory assassins only laughed aloud. This only further enraged the Supreme Leader and Emissary of Light—not only at Matron but at themselves for not having seen this.
They still couldn’t understand why the Matron was betraying them now, after all, she hated the boy more than any of them. It was because of her that the boy came into their lives to begin with. So even if she planned to betray them, why now, when they were going to help her solve her problem?
Actually, nothing about this made sense to them, as they couldn’t think of a single good motive for Matron to risk the consequences of betraying them. After all, all three of them shared an oath they swore in the presence of the card world’s will. The consequences of breaking it was certain death.
The consequences aside, there was no motive, none, all of it seemed too random. It was as if the Matron got out of her bed and decided to betray their allies. The chances of that happening were non-existent, especially considering what they had on each other.
But seeing the various memory versions of Matron before their eyes, they both came to a conclusion: Matron was using her origin card to escape the consequences of breaking the oath. After all, she was unkillable as long as people had a memory of her. Was that why she didn’t kill the card apprentices from the empire?
Though the Supreme Leader and Emissary of Light only knew enough about the Matron’s origin card just like she did theirs. They erased that thought as soon as it crossed their mind thinking that wasn’t it. Then why would the Matron keep the card apprentice from the empire alive and not kill them like she did with the undead card apprentice.
Realizing that just speculating among themselves would not get them anywhere, they exchanged a brief look and simultaneously said, "They boy can wait, let us catch that bitch first."
"You don’t think that boy is involved in this, do you?" the Emissary of Light asked, finding it odd that Sansa chose to betray them just as they were marching to attack the city and not when they were actually attacking it; that would have been a better choice.
Yes, she had successfully managed to completely annihilate both their forces, but if you look at the decision-making, it would make more sense for her to betray them while they were busy attacking the city instead of now. After all, the former had higher chances of success than the latter, even though she managed to pull off the latter. It didn’t change the fact that the former had lesser risk than the latter. So why would she not go with the former? As such, the Emissary of Light couldn’t help but conclude that maybe Sansa was conspiring with the boy they were set out to capture.
"No, that’s too far-fetched. She would rather slaughter everyone in the entire southern region than shake hands with Ellen’s son. Stop overthinking it, we’ll know once we catch her," the Supreme Leader assured the Emissary of Light before asking him, "Quick, help deploy the memory summoning array formation over the void separation barrier. All we need is to capture one memory version of her, and the real one will be at our mercy."
Meanwhile, in Sansa’s camp, I and Field Marshal Lorn were able to watch and hear the exchange between the Supreme Leader and Emissary of Light, courtesy of Sansa’s memory clones.
"Can they capture you with those arrays they speak of?" Field Marshal Lorn asked Sansa, intrigued and also planning to keep those arrays as a backup precautionary measure in case the latter turned on her boss. She wasn’t a big believer that people could change like her lord was. However, she supported him and wanted him to see it through. Hence, what she was doing was necessary.
"It would have worked before, but not now. Thanks to the boss’s guidance I am a lot more capable," Sansa said humbly, referring to my primordial calamity daughter gem.
Actually she believed that if she wanted to she could easily take on both Emissary of Light and Supreme Leader. However, she couldn’t guarantee hundred percent kill, not because she wasn’t strong enough but because she could stop them from escaping when they realized they could win against her, let alone kill her.
"They don’t seem to be scared about your abilities?" Field Marshal asked, making a mental note to buy a memory summoning array formation and void separation barrier array formation despite Sansa saying they were not redundant against her.
"Well, they both have very strong wills and various crazy and weird means at their disposal. Before I break into their memories, they will have come for me. They are confident in their abilities. The same goes for you too. Those starry eyes of yours are like the natural enemy of my origin card or any mental type abilities," Sansa answered honestly, even going as far as to reveal her weakness to the Field Marshal, hoping the latter would start to accept her. As she had seen how much I valued the Field Marshal’s opinion, how could she serve her master better if she couldn’t even get along with his confidants?
"Let’s go greet them," I said, exiting Sansa’s camp, having made sure that neither the Supreme Leader nor the Emissary of Light had other reinforcements, backup, or traps lying in wait that they hadn’t shared with their allies. They guys overthrew the Masters, I didn’t dare to underestimate them, even though I held the upper hand and was stronger than them.
