Chapter 78: Wraiths

Carlotta had also seen Amelia’s cold side.

She didn’t dislike this coldness; it wasn’t because she knew about the existence of the Soldier Roster. She simply believes that different people should be treated differently. Facing these pirates who were not good people to begin with, killing them all would be fine, it was what the pirates had brought upon themselves.

In fact, she found Amelia’s decisiveness in killing particularly charming.

Amelia let out a breath and took out two masks from her hand, handing one to Carlotta.

"Illusion Mask?"

Carlotta recognized this item.

It was an alchemical tool used by the assassins of the Sunset Rose, capable of altering one’s appearance, and its effects were quite impressive.

Amelia said, "Just in case, it’s better for us to conceal our appearances."

As she spoke, she slapped the Illusion Mask onto her face, and the mask immediately merged with her skin, transforming her into an ordinary-looking girl.

Carlotta also slapped the mask onto her face, becoming a plain-looking girl.

They didn’t hide this from the pirates. Amelia turned to the many pirates and said, "Remember our appearances and our identities. I am the leader, White Rose, and she is the Deputy leader, Red Rose."

As pirates, there was no need to use real names; many used aliases, and code names were naturally acceptable.

Next, Amelia took Carlotta to a nearby sailboat, then reached out and tapped the hull of the Moonlight. The massive alchemical ship was then stored inside the Ten-Heart Pearl.

This scene once again made the pirates’ pupils contract.

When Carlotta first learned that Amelia could store such a behemoth as the Moonlight, she was shocked. For these pirates, it wasn’t just shock; it was downright horrifying.

Everyone knew about the existence of spatial artifacts, such as storage cards in card magic or various alchemical tools. But they also understood that the space within these artifacts was usually not very large. To store something as big as the Moonlight, what level of treasure would that be?

Carlotta had long thought that Amelia’s Ten-Heart Pearl was an alchemical artifact, but she suddenly began to doubt, was it really just an alchemical artifact? That was her own judgment; Amelia had never said so. Could it be something of even greater value?

"Next, let’s head to Lionheart Island."

Amelia said with enthusiasm.

Hearing this, Carlotta snapped out of her thoughts and said, "Wait, it’s already late today. Why don’t we rest early and head to the island tomorrow morning?"

She took out a clock card and looked at it; the time was already pointing to ten o’clock.

However, her real reason for saying this was to wait until midnight to check the intelligence first.

The Pirate King’s Lionheart Island involved significant issues, and no one could say for sure what would happen once they set foot on the island. It would be best to gather more information before venturing there.

"It’s already ten o’clock?"

Amelia glanced at Carlotta’s clock card and then said, "In that case, let’s all rest first."

She passed down the order to rest, but after some thought, she still sent a small team to the beach of Lionheart Island to gather some information.

The team went quickly and returned quickly, causing no trouble, and brought back quite useful information.

Among the Ten Great Pirate Crews of the Starlight Sea, two had already arrived: the Blaze Pirate Crew and the Silver Hook Pirate Crew. They had already landed on the island to explore, though it was unclear what they had found.

The sudden appearance of Lionheart Island was unexpected. Even the Ten Great Pirate Crews might not have had time to arrive, but at this point, most of them had probably received the news and were on their way.

Apart from that, the remaining pirate crews were of ordinary size from nearby areas. The scouting team had also brought back information on these pirate Crews. Although incomplete, it was enough to give a general idea.

After understanding the information and arranging for night watchmen, Amelia herself went to sleep.

...

Unconsciously, it was already midnight.

Carlotta, staying in a camp, had been keeping an eye on the time. Seeing that the time had come, she summoned the panel and looked at today’s intelligence.

[ 1: The Lionheart Island, once possessed by the Pirate King, has appeared in the Starlight Sea, causing a huge stir and drawing many pirates. This island had always been hidden in that location, folded into another dimension. Now that the folding force has dissolved, it has naturally appeared.]

Carlotta nodded silently.

When she first heard about the appearance of Lionheart Island, she had wondered if there was some conspiracy, if someone had deliberately forged such an island to lure other pirates and eliminate them. But now that the intelligence says so, this island was indeed the real Lionheart Island.

[ 2: The Blaze Pirate Crew members who arrived at Lionheart Island were two battalion commanders, as the Blaze General did not come personally, fearing it might be a trap. These two battalion commanders were Red Flame and White Flame.]

Carlotta couldn’t help but smile; there were indeed people who thought like her.

However, sending two battalion commanders was quite serious. She remembered that among pirates, apart from the leader and Deputy leader, battalion commanders held the highest rank, followed by company commanders and squad leaders.

The pirates of the Starlight Sea are generally adhered to the same pirate structure.

As for the names of these two battalion commanders... in the Blaze Pirate Crew, anyone above the rank of company commander would be bestowed with the character "Flame" by the Blaze General. This served as both a code name and a unified symbol for the Blaze Pirate Crew.

[ 3: One of the three Deputy leaders of the Silver Hook Pirate Crew, Demules, led his men to Lionheart Island. He volunteered for this mission. The Silver Hook General was concerned that Lionheart Island might be problematic, but Demules wanted to take a gamble. Although he appeared loyal to the Silver Hook General on the surface, he had often wondered, if others could become pirate generals, why couldn’t he? This was his chance; perhaps he could even become the Pirate King.]

No matter where, when people form organizations, all sorts of complicated thoughts emerge, though they don’t surface openly.

Among pirates, who knows what others are thinking? Someone who appears respectfully in front of you might secretly wish to trample you underfoot.

The pirates that Amelia’s Soldier Roster couldn’t include were those with such mixed thoughts, which is why they couldn’t enter the list.

[ 4: With the reappearance of Lionheart Island, a large number of monsters have also revived, now roaming the island in great chaos. There are even vengeful wraiths present; these wraiths can float a certain distance away from Lionheart Island but not too far, so they must be dealt with carefully.]

Just as Carlotta read this, she seemed to sense something and looked up.

A cold breeze blew open the bedroom door, and a faint, blurry figure appeared and disappeared in the corridor.

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Carlotta glanced at the information in her hand, then at the blurry figure drifting down the corridor. She couldn’t help but shrink her neck, feeling that regardless of the wraith’s strength, the atmosphere it brought was quite intimidating.

She took out a light card, activated it, and threw it towards the door. The card immediately illuminated the corridor.

The figure in the corridor became clearer, a humanoid entity, floating in mid-air, its body transparent, giving the impression it could dissipate at any moment.

This was a wraith!

The wraith seemed extremely uncomfortable with the light. As the light shone upon it, it immediately retreated.

Seeing this, Carlotta couldn’t help but smile. Since it had come aboard, how could it just leave?

She quickly stepped into the corridor, picked up the light card, and chased after the wraith. In just a few steps, she caught up and forcefully shoved the light card in front of the wraith.

The wraith immediately clutched its head in agony, emitting a soundless scream, and then, with a "pop," it burst like a bubble.

"So, this is all a wraith is..."

Carlotta turned around, about to return to her bedroom, when she heard a loud "boom." The door of the room opposite hers was shattered from the inside, blown apart by a tremendous force.

Along with the shattered door, a wraith was sent flying out.

"Amelia?"

Carlotta peeked inside, it was Amelia’s room.

On the bed, Amelia sat, one hand clutching the blanket, her smooth silver hair cascading down.

She rubbed her forehead and said, "What was that? It suddenly appeared in the room and scared me."

She had been asleep, but in her drowsiness, she seemed to sense something and suddenly woke up to see the wraith floating towards her. Regardless of anything else, the wraith’s form was somewhat frightening, so she had a bit of a stress reaction.

"These are wraiths. They probably appeared due to the influence of Lionheart Island, but they’re not a big deal. A bit of light can scare them away."

Carlotta entered the room and placed her light card on the table.

Amelia naturally understood Carlotta’s meaning and quickly said, "No need for that... Aunt Julia?"

She called out, and Julia’s figure silently appeared by the bed.

The bodyguard sighed, "Miss, I didn’t expect you to wake up... I found that the wraith wasn’t a threat, so I planned to find Laurie to deal with it, as there’s more than one wraith and they need to be handled in bulk. But Laurie was sleeping so soundly that it took me a while to wake her."

As Julia finished speaking, another figure appeared by Amelia’s bed, a slightly shorter woman, one of Amelia’s bodyguards, Laurie Mitchell.

Laurie followed the path of magic, specializing in Soundwave Magic. Using soundwaves to attack wraiths would obviously be quite effective.

Amelia had three bodyguards in total, all of whom Carlotta knew.

Besides these two, there was one named Lina Klutz, who practiced Plant Magic Path.

Laurie yawned and said, "Miss, don’t worry. I’ll make all the wraiths in this area disappear, and they won’t come back."

Amelia wasn’t one to blame her bodyguards for being startled awake by a wraith. She smiled slightly and said, "Then I’ll leave it to you, Aunt Laurie."

Laurie nodded, then raised her hand and snapped her fingers.

"!"

Silently, a strange wave spread out from Laurie in all directions.

When this wave touched people, they felt nothing, but on the ships, the wandering wraiths all let out inaudible wails before shattering into pieces amidst their cries.

Once it was done, Laurie drowsily said, "Alright, Miss, it’s all taken care of. I’m going back to sleep now."

Amelia nodded, "Go ahead and sleep."

Laurie immediately left.

Amelia’s three bodyguards took turns keeping watch during the night. Tonight was Julia’s turn, so she didn’t need to sleep.

Seeing that the matter was resolved, Julia’s figure vanished on the spot.

"Carlotta, you should go back and sleep peacefully too."

Amelia said, but she herself propped up her body.

"What are you going to do?"

Carlotta asked.

"The appearance of the wraiths, though it didn’t cause much commotion, has still made the pirates a bit restless. I’ll go handle it."

"Leave that to me. You go back to sleep."

"Carlotta..."

"I sleep late every day, and I’m still full of energy now. You go ahead and sleep."

Carlotta went over, pressed Amelia back onto the bed, and even helped tuck her in better.

This made Amelia feel a bit embarrassed, but seeing Carlotta’s determined look, she could only say softly, "Then I’ll trouble you, Carlotta."

"Sleep well."

Carlotta said, taking out a sleep card, activating it, and placing it beside Amelia’s pillow.

This card naturally produced an effect that helped people fall asleep. If one were to dream, it couldn’t guarantee pleasant dreams, but at least it would prevent nightmares.

Sleep cards were always popular on the market.

Then Carlotta took back the light card and left the room.

As she stepped out, her gaze swept over the shattered door on the ground, and she hesitated, unsure how to fix it. Would they have to leave the door open?

At that moment, Carlotta noticed plants growing out of the ground. These plants intertwined like skilled craftsmen weaving, quickly forming the shape of a door, perfectly fitting into the original door’s position.

Carlotta knew it must have been Lina Klutz, the bodyguard who specialized in plant magic, who had acted. She must have been specifically woken up by Julia to fix the door.

With her mind at ease, Carlotta walked onto the deck and calmed the pirates who were slightly panicked by the appearance of the wraiths.

After calming everyone on the ship, she sent a few of them to the other pirate ships to do the same, as she didn’t need to go to every ship herself.

She returned to her bedroom and fell asleep peacefully.

...

The next day.

When golden sunlight sprinkled over the ocean, the Rose Pirate Crew finally moved, once again approaching Lionheart Island.

The arrival of this pirate crew also drew the attention of the pirates left on the beach of Lionheart Island, as during this period, the Rose Pirate Crew had earned quite a fearsome reputation, making them hard to ignore.
