Carrying a Jurassic on me-Chapter 753 - 384: Dredging the River, Knowing Yourself and the Enemy_1
Chapter 753: Chapter 384: Dredging the River, Knowing Yourself and the Enemy_1
Yan Fei had barely spoken two words when Lin Baoguo drove him away, not out of real anger but to teach him a lesson, explaining that the issue was not worth getting upset over.
There’s a limit to everything, if those people hadn’t been so outrageous, their actions might have made Director Lin lose face. But they had gone so far that everyone would naturally think, they were the ones stepping out of line and it was just bad luck that Director Lin happened to deal with such people.
Anyone dealing with such a situation would undoubtedly be angry at first, but upon understanding the situation more clearly, they would realize it’s not worth getting mad at it.
What goes around comes around, the evil people will be grinded by their own karma, isn’t it that those people have already received their retribution?
Seeing Lin Baoguo so open-minded, Yan Fei felt relieved and headed back.
Once back, he couldn’t sit idle, there were many chores waiting for him, from feeding the creatures big and small to dealing with the watering and harvesting tasks till midnight.
After having a full meal, morphing into a small black bird, he quietly flew around the greenhouse.
It was deep into the night, with most people sound asleep. Only a few families within the walls of the West River fort were troubled by the flat rooftops they were sleeping on. The rest of the places were vacant.
Having found no issues, he flew to a spot further upstream, and dived into the water.
Suddenly, there was a great commotion underwater, a huge bulge emerged on the surface and then instantly subsided.
A bizarre, python-like head slowly emerged on the water surface.
As it was summer, the river water had risen substantially and was quite turbid, making it difficult even in daylight to see below the surface, let alone in the middle of the night, with no one around.
The huge head slowly moved along the river, its movement caused the water on both sides to change color, bringing up a dark gray hue amidst the turbidity.
It was the sediment from the riverbed that had been stirred up.
This was something Yan Fei had planned for in advance. Taking advantage of the high waters in summer, he decided to deepen the river bed. At this point, the river turned into an S shape, where the water naturally slowed down due to the accumulation of silt at the bottom. Hence, if the water level rises greatly, there’s a chance that it might flood the bamboo grove.
Although there wasn’t a big flood in these past years, seeing the rising water now still worried Yan Fei that it might surge higher and wash away his greenhouse.
Taking advantage of the rising water level, he decided to deepen the river and remove the sediment, to increase the safety of his property.
To others, dredging the river and removing the sediment may seem like a difficult task, but for him, it’s rather simple.
The head protruding by the water wasn’t conspicuous in the darkness, no one would know that behind it was a massive body weighing several tonnes. He just needed to walk once in the river. The four gigantic pillar-like legs would easily stir up the silt from the river bed; it was truly a simple task.
The fear in summer is of people staying awake at night to linger outside, but during winter, this was the best time to do such activities without getting noticed. However, the shallow winter water was not enough to cover the monstrous body of the Brachiosaurus. By transforming into something smaller, he could not achieve the desired result.
The surging river water during the flood season carried away the stirred-up silt. Traces of the Brachiosaurus’ trudging were immediately erased. Even when the Brachiosaurus, which spanned several dozen meters, slowed its pace, it proceeded quickly. Once it was close to the greenhouse, it morphed into a Tylosaurus, fully submerging into the water, thus completely eliminating the fear of being seen.
Though the size of the Tylosaurus wasn’t small either. Like a gigantic loach, it swam through the river once, producing better results than the Brachiosaurus. However, having grown accustomed to the filthy river water, he instinctively refrained from completely submerging himself under water and chose the Brachiosaurus instead.
Passing the cattle ranch, he decided to go the extra mile and continued walking along the river bed until he reached the spot where he used to cross the river on his previous trips to the county. Upon reaching this point, the river widens significantly, hence he no longer needed to continue dredging it.
The most critical section was indeed the bend near the greenhouse. As long as he ensured the unobstructed flow of the river at this point, the greenhouse should remain safe from flooding. Of course, if they encountered a rare flood that could threaten the entire town, his greenhouse would definitely be doomed, and there was nothing he could do about it.
After returning, he flew around once again and retraced his footsteps twice along the same route.
Now, not only the silt but any other strange substance in the riverbed had been stirred up and washed away by water. In the end, he distinctly felt that the flood beneath his feet had vanished, the only thing being stirred up now was sand.
The advantages were clear. At this point, he could distinctly feel the river flow becoming more rapid as it reached this segment. When the colossal body of the Brachiosaurus left the river, anyone paying close attention would notice that the water level had already dropped in the short span of that time. While the change was not conspicuous for now, Yan Fei was quite satisfied with the results.
Since he had been bustling around in the river for quite some time, despite morphing several times, he still felt unclean. So, he morphed back into the Tylosaurus and took a good half-an-hour swim in the ocean of the dinosaur world. After thorough washing in the ring-shaped lake, he finally took a short break in the greenhouse.
Upon waking up, as it was still dark, he transformed into a small black bird and flew straight towards the town.
Upon arriving near the wet market where the quarantine room personnel were ambushed yesterday, he fetched a carrying pole from the dinosaur world, filled up two large baskets with green vegetables, and headed straight towards the wet market.
It was about four or five in the morning, and the sky was still dim. However, suburban wet markets generally start early, and several people were already there. Those who were already present were sellers, and the wholesalers from the city would arrive soon. After daylight, the place would gradually fill up with local residents coming to buy vegetables casually.
Yan Fei squatted at a spot near the entrance of the wet market with his vegetables and began listening attentively.
Of course, he didn’t come to sell his vegetables. After yesterday’s incident, he was here to gather some information - or as Yan Fei liked to put it - to know oneself and the enemy to fight a hundred battles without disaster.
As soon as he squatted down, a middle-aged woman came out from the market, illuminating his basket of vegetables with her torch and started asking: "Brother, you’re not a regular around here? You look unfamiliar! How much are you selling these vegetables for?"
Even though he wasn’t there to sell vegetables, upon hearing the woman’s question, he quickly added a few cents to the usual price and quoted it without thinking.
To his surprise, the woman wasn’t deterred by his unfavorable attitude, she pointed her finger and said, "Bring it in then! My stall is over there. I’ll buy all these vegetables."
Yan Fei was taken aback.
Despite my unwillingness to sell, you still want to buy it, can’t you see my price is higher than others?
Sigh!
No one but himself should be blamed for his vegetables being far superior in appearance to others’. These veggie vendors know their stuff; they wouldn’t be making a loss. Thus, raising the price by a few cents didn’t matter to them, they would still buy it.
