CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 121: Plan All Along
Princess Cassandra walked into the study.
The guard on the outside took a step to hold Cassandra’s guard but he stood still. It was as if he had just remembered what the King had ordered.
Aiden looked at the guard as he entered after the fifth Princess without much thought. He knew his place was near the fifth Princess. Duke Salvador walked along side in confidence, making the King look at her too.
Princess Cassandra and Duke Salvador bowed. The King soon gave them permission to rise as he looked at the guard whose face was covered. The King looked into the eyes of the fifth Princess guard only to realize that he was not an ordinary man.
[Be careful.] The voices said inside Princess Cassandra’s mind.
’I know.’ Princess Cassandra thought as she smiled as her gaze turned into a smile. "The King wanted to meet me alone."
The King moved his eyes away from Princess Cassandra’s guard as he looked at the Princess herself with a smile. "Let’s have a seat."
Princess Cassandra followed the King as she sat on the chair. A maid soon served her some tea and snacks.
The King smiled as he indicated the fifth Princess to eat but the Princess did not touch the teacup. She simply smiled.
The King’s eyes turned sharp as he looked at the fifth Princess. Princess Teimei had told him that the fifth Princess of Elvira Empire is very cautious of them so her behavior was acceptable.
The King did not mind as he looked at the guard. He was a little worried before talking to the Princess.
Cassandra could feel the King’s eyes on the Duke. She was confused why the King minded him so much.
’I have to distract him.’
’Do he know that the guard is Duke Salvador?’
’Why is he so focused on him?’
Princess Cassandra thought as she touched the teacup, pretending to drink it but the liquid did not touch her lips once. Cassandra kept the cup down as she looked at the King.
"The King might have something important to tell me." Princess Cassandra smiled at the man sitting in front of her. Her eyes shone as she talked with care. "And yet the King is not saying anything. This is making me worry."
The King diverted his gaze as he looked at the Princess. "No, I was just wondering if I should say it in front of the guard?" The King’s tone was filled with questionable tone.
"Of course, The guard is my personal guard. He is my most trusted person of mine. The King can be worry-free. He knows everything about me and I would like to keep it that way." Princess Cassandra’s voice was low but full of confidence. She looked into the King’s eyes before she looked back at Duke Salvador and asked.
"Isn’t it Ed?"
Aiden who listened to Princess Cassandra’s words smiled silently as he nodded his eyes before looking straight at the King.
The King’s eyes narrowed as he nodded. He took a mouthful of the tea. "How was your journey here?"
"My journey?" Princess Cassandra raised her eyebrows. "I didn’t even feel like I was traveling. I was sleeping and suddenly I was in the Vivere Kingdom when I opened my eyes."
Princess Cassandra folded her hands as her gaze looked back. "I wonder why that is? Do you know Ed?"
Aiden shook his head. He was also wondering the same thing but there was no way of knowing it but after the explanation of the elements, it was cleared.
But what bothered Aiden was why would the fifth Princess ask such a question now. He looked at Princess Cassandra who smiled and looked at the King. "Is it some power of the Vivere Kingdom?"
The King’s eyes glowed as he narrowed his gaze. Whoever said that the fifth Princess of the Elvira Empire was docile was wrong and he could feel it.
There was a sharpness in Princess Cassandra’s words. It bothered the King but there was no turning back.
The King took deep breaths as he tried distracting the topic with a smile. "I heard you wanted to know more about your powers, that’s why you came here?"
"It was not my choice alone." Princess Cassandra ran her finger on the brim of the cup as she leaned forward. "Prince Carl blackmailed me. He said he would tell me about my powers and about my mother."
Princess Cassandra looked up through her eyelashes. "But since I entered the Vivere Kingdom, Prince Carl is acting as he had forgotten all about it."
The King smiled. Initially, he did not know how to reply to this but he soon composed himself. "The Prince has been busy since he came back. Let him have some time to settle and he will definitely help you."
Princess Cassandra smiled as she smiled. Her head tilted as she blinked innocently. "But I don’t understand why the Vivere Kingdom would help me? What would you bring a Princess like me into your Kingdom? It is all too confusing to me. I cannot seem to understand."
The King understood what Princess Cassandra was saying. "We are good people, Princess. I guess Prince Carl had seen how you were treated in the palace and decided to bring you along."
"Is it?" Princess Cassandra smiled as she leaned back taking a sigh of relief. Her eyes that had settled down soon became sharp. Her breathing increased. Cassandra’s voice trembled as if she had just realized something.
"But then how did you know about my powers?" Princess Cassandra’s eyes shook as her tone shivered. "It is not something that you would know by chance."
The King could see the shock in Princess Cassandra’s face. It was not an expression of someone who is aware of things rather it was an expression of someone who was truly shocked.
But Princess Cassandra was acting. Amy, Duke Salvador and she had discussed how to behave in the palace together. They needed information.
What Princess Cassandra was using was one of the strategies given by Duke Salvador. He had instructed them that in order to get the information they have to behave clueless and dumb. Act as if they did not understand anything.
Princess Cassandra could still hear Duke Salvador’s words in her ears. "Acting clueless will make them explain it in depth. They would bring their guards down. When this happens people tend to talk, their real emotions. We can gather more information this way."
Princess Cassandra smiled as she remembered. She could see the confusion in the King’s sight. It was as if he could feel Princess Cassandra’s vulnerabilities.
Princess Cassandra looked back at her guards. "Ed, you are the only one I had ever told this to. Did you tell them? Did you discuss my secrets with others?"
Princess Cassandra’s voice shook as her eyes filled with water. "I trusted you so much and you told this to Prince Carl. Are you working for them?"
A few drops of tears ran down Cassandra’s face as she winked at the Duke before turning back at the King with a sad expression. "I had asked this to Prince Carl and Princess Teimei as well but they did not answer me then."
The King was dumbfounded. He looked at the fifth Princess as he asked in a dull tone. "Have you told this to your guard as well?"
"Yes, I have told you. I trust him the most but if .." Princess Cassandra choked as more tears came down her face. Princess Cassandra looked down as she played with her fingers. "I ... neve ...never knew Ed will ... betray ..."
Duke Salvador took a step forward as he went on his knees. "Princess I did not .."
"HOW CAN THAT BE?" Princess Cassandra shouted as she looked at the Duke. "I had asked you before in the Empire as well, but you denied it there too."
Duke Salvador shook his head as he looked at the King before turning back to the Princess. "I would never."
"THEN WHO?" Princess Cassandra choked as she looked at the King. "Are you implying that the Vivere Kingdom’s Prince, Princess, and King knew about it before?"
"That ..." Duke Salvador stopped before he looked at the King again with his gaze full of accusation.
Aiden knew that it was required to make the King talk. When he had first seen the man in the throne room, Aiden knew that only putting him in this condition would make the man talk.
The King looked between Princess Cassandra and her guard. He had specifically told his son and daughter to be careful around the Princess. She should not think that they had planned on bringing her here all along and yet.
The King did not know how to reply anymore. He needed to talk with Prince Carl and Princess Teimei. They both have started acting out on their own without informing him. If the Prince had reported what all he had promised and said to the Princess in the Empire this situation could have been avoided.
Princess Cassandra could hear the King’s thoughts as she smiled. It was a perfect time to speak. Her voice turned high as her eyes sharped. "OR ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT IT WAS VIVERE KINGDOM’S PLAN ALL ALONG?"
