CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 185: Envious
Aiden Salvador started to get a little annoyed.
He did not know whether to be happy or envious. Duke Salvador knew that he should not be jealous of the new child that was adopted into their family when he was the one who suggested it but he could not help himself.
"Butterfly.." Duke Salvador smiled as he looked at Cassandra playing with the child Ayah. "You should look at me too."
Duchess Cassandra smiled as she shook her head. She was a little angry but did not say anything. She knew that Aiden was feeling jealous, but she could not understand how a person could be jealous of a child.
Duke Salvador sat on the bed as he walked Cassandra walking around in the room. Cassandra was enjoying her time with Ayah. Her small hands always moved towards her face as she wanted to play with her.
The baby’s skin was soft like a new flower that was about to bloom. Cassandra smiled as he played with the child before walking towards Aiden. Soon Cassandra felt that something was wrong. Her eyes widened as she handed the Ayah to Aiden as she ran outside the door.
Duke Salvador was confused for a second. He could not understand what just happened. His wife was smiling and enjoying it and then she ran out suddenly with a pale face.
Aiden walked towards the door as he saw a maid running towards him. Everyone in the mansion knew how the Duke treated his wife. What they feared was not what will happen if the couple broke up, but what would happen if Duchess Cassandra was hurt or sick.
"What happened?" Aiden asked as he saw the panic on the maid’s face.
"The Duchess..." The maid took a pause as she breathed. Due to running her breaths were hitched.
"What happened to Cassandra?" Duke Salvadorasked in a panicked voice. Aiden did not wait for the maid to reply as he handed the child to her and ran towards Cassandra.
But the problem was he didn’t know where his wife was. "Blazh." Duke Salvador said as he stopped in a place.
"The Duchess is in the room near the farthest to the main hall," Blazh said in a small tone. He knew that Duke Salvador was angry. "The doctor has been called."
As soon as the last sentence was heard, Aiden’s step increased. He did not know what was happening to his wife. Was she sick? Why?
It was then that Duke Salvador realized that she had been sleeping a lot lately. Firstly he thought that it was due to all the night activities they did together. Or after Ayah came, he thought that she was too awake at night, maybe that was the reason she slept.
But was Cassandra so sick at that time and he didn’t realize it? Aiden was feeling sad when he suddenly knew it.
Duke Salvador’s steps did not stop. He walked at a fast speed as he entered the room. He could see Cassandra on the bed. She was looking at the doctor who was checking her nerves.
Aiden walked into the room as he held Cassandra’s other hand. He sat near the bed as he looked at the doctor with worry. "What happened?" Aiden asked.
"That.." The doctor smiled as he looked at Cassandra and then at Aiden. "The Duchess needs a lot of protection from now on."
Aiden’s hold on Cassandra tightened. "More care? What is wrong with her?" Duk Salvador was worried and it was visible.
"Well.." The doctor smiled as he said in a joyful tone. "The Duchess is healthy but now there is one more life inside of her. She needs more protection."
As soon as the words fell, the Salvador couple looked at each other with wide eyes. They did not know what to say. It was as if their senses were blocked.
The doctor understood that something was wrong. He smiled as he looked at the Salvador couple as he explained. "Congratulations, you are going to become parents."
As soon as the words fell, Cassandra’s eyes teared up. She held her stomach as she realized that there was a life in her.
Aiden looked at the doctor and then at Cassandra. He soon pulled his wife towards him as he hugged her. He was going to be a father. The joy he was feeling was beyond words.
Aiden looked at Cassandra as he kissed her lips softly. The Duchess was embarrassed as she looked around and found that not everyone was present in the room. Maybe at some point, they have all left, giving them some personal space to enjoy the moment.
The feeling of being a parent was hitting hard on them. Now the Duchess had a life within her that everyone wanted to protect.
—-----
Months later.
"Why are you walking?" Duke Salvador ran as he held Cassandra in his arms. The Duchess was nine months pregnant but it was not easy.
There was no problem with anything else, but only the Duke. Duke Salvador refused to leave the Duchess alone. He sent a notice to Emperor Cedric saying that due to his wife’s poor health he would not attend the meetings unless it was important.
And the wife who was supposed to be in poor health was enjoying her days in the garden seeing the peasant things and playing with Ayah. But Aiden was concerned.
Although the doctor had advised Cassandra to have small physical movements, Aiden was always stressed. Whenever he saw Cassandra getting up and walking he would be worried and walk around her like a puppy.
Cassandra was getting irritated. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormone but now that she thinks about it, Cassandra also knew that Aiden was worried.
He played with Ayah and looked after her as well. Cassandra could see all of the fatherly emotions in him as she observed how carefully Aiden handled Ayah. Just to give her proper sleep, Aiden would take Ayah out at night. He stayed with her until the child slept peacefully.
Over the few months, Aiden had mastered that tactic of handling a child. From feeding to changing clothes. He not only respected Cassandra who was willing to have his child and go through a lot of pain but he also wanted to help her as much as he could.
"You know, I wonder who the child would look like?" Duchess Cassandra said in a soft tone. Her hands were in Aiden’s hand as he made her sit on the bed.
"I wish the child would resemble you," Aiden said as he touched Cassandra’s face. "But all I know is who the baby looks like. I will love him or her."
"So you don’t have a preference?" Cassandra asked. Her eyes blinked in confusion. "I thought you would want a boy."
Duke Salvador laughed at his wife’s words. "Why would you think that? I don’t care if the baby will be a girl or boy. It will be ours."
"Yes, it will be ours..."
—-------
"AHHHHH ..."
"AHH HHH...."
Cassandra’s voice revolved around the dukedom. Maids rushed in and out of the room as the Duchess was about to give birth. The most panicked was the man whose wife was on the bed.
Aiden sat on the bed beside his wife. Although all the midwives refused the Duke to come inside, he could not resist. Cassandra was in pain and he could see it. Her screams were resolving in the corridor and at such a time how could he stay out and wait.
Aiden for once felt that he was useless. What was the use of having Dukedom under him? What was the use of the title? The money that he had was useless as well. He cannot even help his wife when she is in pain. He cannot even share the pain.
Aiden rubbed Cassandra’s forehead softly as he touched her cheeks. "You can do it butterfly. The baby is visible."
Aiden’s voice was shaking but he still stayed strong to give Cassandra some support. Cassandra nodded her head as she pushed. The midwives were running around as one shouted, "THE BABY’S HEAD IS VISIBLE."
As soon as the words were said, Cassandra pushed harder. She knew that she should not stop now. Although she felt it was more difficult than fighting witch Elvira, Cassandra also knew that she should not lose consciousness until the baby is out.
Aiden held Cassandra’s hand as he gave her his strength. "You can do it, butterfly. Look, the baby is about to come."
Listening to Aiden’s voice gave an invisible strength to Cassandra. Her hold on Duke Salvador tightened and she pushed hard. Her throat had run dry with all the shouting and her body was full of sweat. Cassandra was trying and trying and soon a child’s cry could be heard.
There was a smile on Cassandra’s face as she looked at Aiden who was looking at her. "Our baby.."
Aiden smiled as he saw Cassandra’s eyes close. Soon his wife had gone to sleep because of tiredness. "Yes, our baby," Aiden whispered as he kissed Cassandra’s forehead softly.
